Chapter 4

Lance looked at the reply he received. Sea International High School? He raised his eyebrows in query. Would Dr.S be a teacher there? Zac glanced at the message his captain had just received Sea International.

"Tell me Captain what do you think?"

Lance glanced at Zac who had his eyes fixed on his phone, quickly locked his phone and said, "Think about what?"

"What do you think Dr.S looks like? Do you think he is a bald man like a geek we see in those animes?"

Zac imagined a man with round glasses that had swirls in them looking almost blind and half bald. He shuddered at his own imagination.

"Captain." Saluted James and handed over a sheet of paper to Lance.

Lance glanced over at James and took over the sheet of paper.

"The background check report on Ian Scott? Isn't this too meager?"

James looked at Lance and nervously reported, "Most of his information from five years back to the present seems tampered with and has loopholes in them."

A dangerous glint passed his eyes and just as he was thinking about his next step of action his cellphone rang.

"Chief."

William's somber voice sounded over the phone, "Don't check Ian."

Lance looked surprised. He didn't expect that the high school student who had just been considered ordinary by most people would still have contact with the Chief of Police.

"May I ask why sir?"

"You'll find out later today.", William replied and he hung up the phone.

Lance looked at the paper again, this time with a smirk on his face.

"This is getting interesting."

The people in the station stiffened at the sight of Lance's smirk. The captain of the Crime Investigation Unit is a predator and he looks the scariest when he lifts up his lips. That is the rumor going around in every department, seeing the live version less than a meter away from him chilled James to his bones. His eyes screaming I want to run away, he's scary, am I going to die?

"Captain its time." Zac interrupted the confrontation between Lance and his thoughts.

Lance nodded, "I'll go with you to fetch him."

Zac glanced at his captain with astonishment but restrained it before he could be beaten.

Sea International High School

"How do you know?", Nathan asked Ian with a dangerous look in his eyes.

Ian laughed and said, " There's are a few clues that gave you away. Want to know?"

Nathan squinted his eyes and looked at the new arrival in his class, tensing up and pushing him against the wall, "Speak."

"First, the calluses on your fingers show that you've been handling guns for a long time. It might be because you're a shooter but that crosses out because of my second conjecture. An experienced shooter has to learn to be calm and even their breath is low and hidden, even though you have a low breath you aren't concentrated your eyes are always wandering around and the fact that you pointed out my interest in psychology proves that you're a keen observer. Moreover ordinary shooters have more developed arm muscles than their calf muscles but your muscles are equally developed. The scars on your knuckles prove that you are a frequent fighter and boxer. Now, if you think about it, a person who can handle guns, has keen observation, fighting skills, carries a gun, is not a bodyguard, always vigilant in face of strangers, can either be a criminal or a police."

Nathan looks surprised at Ian's conjecture and questioned, "How do you know I'm a policeman not a criminal or a bodyguard?"

"It was actually your watch gave your away. It was distributed internally to under-18 high achieving officers." Ian replied with a smirk.

"It could be that I borrowed it from someone else. There's too many loopholes in this idea of yours." Nathan continued being vigilant against Ian as if ready to attack at any given moment.

Ian laughed at what Nathan had just said and replied, "I didn't say the most important clue that gave you away."

Nathan simply raised his eyebrows at Ian and motioned for him to continue.

"The app on your phone exclusive for only the members of secret forces."

Nathan looked surprised that he got to notice the app when it was only once since this morning that he had used his phone in front of Ian yet he continued, "Why Phantom?"

"There's only supposed to be one person from the police to my knowledge and besides I've already done a check on everyone on this school to narrow down the scope. Coincidentally we became seat partners and I could easily infer it was you before I had to put any more efforts into looking for you."

Nathan looked up and Ian saw the flash of surprise in his eyes, "That just tells me that you are Dr.S, damn, I never expected I'd be seat partners with you. I knew Dr.S was coming to the school but I only expected a middle-aged man, you are different from my imagination."

Ian smiled slightly and shook his head at Ian's comment.

Zac stood outside the gate with an unlit cigarette in his mouth and waited for him to show up, constantly glancing at his watch.

"You're waiting for someone?"

Zac became vigilant and glanced at the high school boy. Ian Scott. Zac chose to remain silent and wait for instructions from the captain who was waiting inside the car but before he could move to ask his captain he heard the boy say again, "Waiting for Dr.S aren't you?"

Lance heard the voice of a teenager talking to Zac from inside the car. Zac looked at Ian with a fierce look in his eyes waiting for his captain to command him while Ian looked straight inside the car directly in his eyes. In a flash the boy moved and before Zac could find the chance to stop him he was already in the driver's seat and locked the doors.

Ian turned back and smiled at the cold-faced police captain.

"I knew I'd find you inside the car."

"How?", Lance asked without any expectation of receiving an answer from him.

"Zac gave it away, he was trying to get instructions from you about how he should deal with the unpredictable me." Lance could hear the pride in his voice while he watched the guy smirk at him.

"Why are you here?" Lance couldn't help but frown thinking that he had to deal with a messy teenager while waiting for the damn criminal psychologist, he's already fifteen minutes late. While Lance pondered how to deal with the mess Ian rolled down the window and said to Zac who had been continuously knocking on the windows trying to get Ian to come out, "How stupid of you to actually leave the key in ignition."

With that said Ian quickly tied his seat belt and drove away leaving the bewildered Zac behind.
