When You Hang Out with Him

Rocket kept his word when he said he agreed that you two would be going to a shooting range when you guys land. After you got your supplies, you, Rocket, and little Groot went on into town and went inside the shooting range.

It was still pretty early in the day so there's not many people around there. You and Rocket pick out some guns before taking them to the stalls and you begin loading one.

Y/n: Now this gun I know how to shoot from.

.

After loading it, you aim for the target and shoot. Hitting the target with a headshot, Rocket lets out a small smile before finishing loading his gun and shoots the target as well.

Little Groot just sits on the edge between the two stalls, just watching and smiling as he sees you two enjoy yourselves and soon each other's company. As the minutes go by, you and Rocket strike up a few conversations.

Y/n: The first time Peter used a fire launcher was back at camp. He literary shit himself when he realized he pulled the trigger by accident and he caused the whole office building to burn down.

.

Rocket laughs to himself, just thinking about the "great" Starlord shitting himself. A bright smile spreads across your face when you see and hear his laugh. It's rare for him to smile, so you take advantage of this moment while he's smiling with you.

.

Rocket: Did he get kicked out?

Y/n: Nope. Guess who he begged to help him hide the gun? Me. It wasn't hard though. We quickly snuck into the boy's cabin and hid the gun underneath some guy's bed. Let's just say Peter got to stay while someone else got banned for life from coming back.

.

You two share another good laugh before you feel like you need to use the bathroom. Putting your gun's safety on and putting it down, you tell Rocket you'll be back. After you leave the stall, Rocket continues firing off one of the guns before little Groot stands up and walks toward his side.

Little Groot: I am Groot?

Rocket: What do you mean?

Little Groot: I am Groot.

Rocket: Don't get any ideas. We're just hanging out. That's all.

Little Groot: (Smiles) I am Groot. I am Groot.

.

Rocket doesn't say anything and just stares at him for a second before going back to shooting. Even Groot can see through him, and there's no use in lying to him about it. And to be honest, he has thought about it before, but... he's not too sure about asking you.

You then come back and you two get back to shooting from a variety of guns. But there was one gun where you couldn't figure out where the hell to load the bullets in. You just look all over the gun, trying to find it, until Rocket glances at you and sees you struggling with it.

Rocket: Let me see that.

.

You hand him the gun as you take a couple of steps closer to him. Now standing about three feet from him, you watch him find what you were looking for and load it before he closes his eyes, turns his back against the way of the target, lifts his arm back, and shoots one of the moving targets in the head.

Stumped and surprised by his action, you just stood there and stared at the broken moving target. Taking a glance at you, he smiles to himself as he sees your expression.

Y/n: (Smile) Wow, nice headshot! You're a natural at this.

Rocket: (Smiles) I know.

Y/n: I don't know about you guys, but I'm starving. You two care to join me for lunch?

.

They both agree, mostly little Groot, and you three leave the shooting range building before going into town. You got to admit you're a little nervous. Not just about being around your idol and hero, but you're also nervous about rather or not someone on this planet will recognize you as royalty. You hope that no one recognizes you. But just in case, you're going to have to buy some tranquilizers or something.

A little while later and you three are sitting at one of the tables in the outside food stands. A lot of people and creatures here, and it's making you more nervous. Rocket and little Groot are sitting across from you, and while you're eating your lunch there's kind of a weird silence between you two. You don't know what else you could talk about.

Rocket: You've known Quill for years?

Y/n: Well, we were at a summer camp for a whole two summers before he stopped going. We pretty much just lost touch after that.

Rocket: So... you two never dated?

Y/n: No, Peter is more like a brother to me. And he still is. I won't ever see him as anything more.

.

A little bit of happiness filled his heart when he heard what you said that, but he hides that well by eating his food. But then again, little Groot sees the lower end of his tail slightly wag.

.

Y/n: I hear you and Groot were bounty hunters before. Is that true?

Rocket: Yeah, we still are when we need to. Or at least when Quill's not looking.

Y/n: (Chuckle) Yeah.

Rocket: I got to ask, why were you captured?

Y/n: Oh uh...

.

Should you tell him about the reason why you were captured? That you're a princess on the run? No, you can't tell him. Seeing that you don't feel like answering he says,

Rocket: You don't have to answer.

Y/n: Thanks...

.

It gets quiet again. The only sounds are the people walking and chatting around you. But at least you can have a real conversation with him without him avoiding you.

After you all finish eating, you head back for the ship while the two head towards the other markets to get a few things. As you're walking back, you hear a woman yell amongst the crowd, saying that someone stole her purse.

Seeing the man make a run for it with the purse in hand, you chase after him. This is not the first nor last time you had to chase down a criminal. You've chased criminals down almost every night in towns and villages when you were on your planet.

Y/n: You better stop!

.

The man ignores your yell and keeps running. Now you have no choice but to do what you have to do. You jump to the roofs of the stands and continue to run after him.

Wasn't long before you catch up to him and you pull out one of your weapons. You were thinking of your flaming sword, but you got a better idea. Grabbing your lasso, made from dragon skin, you use it to grab the criminal by the leg and he trips to the ground. Taking the opportunity, you jump down before whipping the lasso back as fast as you can, making the lasso tie itself around the criminal from leg to chest.

You take the purse from him and give it back to the woman who finally catches up.

Y/n: Here you go ma'am.

Woman: Thank you, thank you so much miss.

.

You turn back to the criminal, whose somehow gotten out of the lasso and is running away from you. Just as you were about to run after him again, he gets shot by an electrical bullet and he falls on the ground with visible electrical currents running throughout his body.

Looking around to see who shot him, you see Rocket standing by with the gun in his hands. You walk over to him and the criminal still lying on the ground.

Rocket: Good thing I was around.

Y/n: Thanks, now I got to turn him in.

Rocket: Yeah, I got a better idea.

.

Minties later and you two are finally done. The criminal is tied up in one of the market center statues. He tries his best to wiggle out but the chains are tight and they keep him in place until the authority arrives.

With little Groot sitting on Rocket's shoulder, you and Rocket walk together back to the ship while the criminal curses at you and Rocket. But he is soon shut up by the woman who he stole from when she stuffs a piece of soap in his mouth.

Y/n: Can I just say, sometimes you have the best ideas.

Rocket: (Chuckles) Sometimes? When did I have a bad idea?

Y/n: (Smile) You stealing ship parts from space pirates and that made them chase us wasn't a good idea.

.

He just laughs to himself at that while you smile as you shake your head at him. Yeah, he's... pretty crazy... but hey, you don't mind that.
