During this intense battle, Maurice didn't put on airs just because he was the new leader of the revolutionary army. Instead, he let Cao lead the army since he had the most experience in war due to his age and was also a stronger cultivator than him. Cao was content with this and fought without internal worries. He was also very clear about his role. He needed to defend and await reinforcements from Dwarves colony. Once White Clown Wind and elf lady Aerin arrive along with Qiang, revolutionary army's condition would improve. Alas that wasn't going to happen.

Upon his command, several chosen warriors worked together and shouted in unison, pretending to be using an earth element technique. A thick and robust wall rose up high and curved inwardly, covering the army inside a protective dome. The real person using this technique was actually Lan. She had further explored her earth element constitution and was now able to manipulate the earth on a whole different level! Of course, she gained an empyrean grade technique from revolutionary army too. It was called Potter technique. It was an assault type empyrean technique which allowed the user to morph the soil in any shape they wanted. Just how a potter transforms the clay to make different types of pots. It was more like an enhanced, stronger & more diverse version of earthworm technique. But Lan was a very important cultivator in revolutionary army's camp. She needed to be kept safe and thus, Cao told several warriors to pretend to be using the potter technique, to fool Jiao.

Meanwhile under the ground, there were two people guarding Lan tightly. They were a man and woman, garbed in dusty clothes and ragged armor. They were using a support type technique continuously. This technique hid their presence and turned them invisible to observational type support techniques. Thus, Jiao was unable to see Lan and continued to target the warriors on the surface who were pretending to be using the earth element technique.

Boom! Boom! Loud explosions occurred as Jiao's chariot bombarded the earth dome with great power, causing holes to emerge on the dome. But quickly the soil would move and consolidate, repairing the dome. This was a battle of attrition.

"Annoying pests! Let's see how long you can resist!" Jiao growled and channeled large amounts of chi into his chariot to prepare a mighty attack. For a few moments, the battlefield turned silent. The reason being, only Jiao was attacking and the rebels were defending. Nobody was attacking Jiao back.

Jiao's chariot was a unique construct. It was one of its kind and seemingly consisted an inbuilt strategy. This chariot could fly in air speedily and could display empyrean grade techniques. Although its speed was inferior to Jiao's own speed, but he made a small sacrifice to use the other perks the chariot brought to him.

There were several barrels protruding outwards from the chariot's chassis. Under Jiao's manipulation, they morphed like molten iron and joined together to form a very thick and long barrel. It was oozing with orange light as Jiao continued to feed it large amounts of his energy.

"It's a fire element technique move, augmented by the chariot." The male bodyguard of Lan's spoke as he deduced.

"This is bad, the power it is emitting is massive! I'm afraid the dome won't survive this incoming attack." The female bodyguard spoke.

"…." Lan remained silent. She willed and inside the dome, another dome began to form. And another one!

"Move closer! Huddle together!" Cao instructed the rebels. The dome walls were thick. Three of them were now stacked together, leaving little space inside it for the rebels. But passively taking the hit wasn't the only option they had. Lan worked tirelessly and created a tunnel for the army. A group of chosen warriors jumped into and followed the tunnel to reach behind Jiao.

"Humph!" Jiao snorted while sensing this. His observational technique allowed him to see through everything for hundreds of miles. It was similar to Wind's 10000 thousand li sight. Obviously, the rebels knew that Jiao could see them. This group of warriors was basically a suicide group who were hoping to distract Jiao. As long as they succeed, Jiao's attack would be either directed towards them or lose much of its power due to the distraction.

BOOMM!!! The chariot roared deafeningly and shot a thick fiery beam towards the dome.

Boom!! The first dome was pierced through easily.

Boom!! The second dome also crumbled and gave in.

"Charge!!!" The suicide group howled and emerged from the underground, attacking Jiao with their best moves. All sorts of ranged attacks were hurled towards Jiao. Some of them leapt high in air and attacked personally by using mid rage and short range attacks.

"Humph! Futile!" Jiao snarled and turned around, attacking them back.

"Devourer Shadow!!" Jiao yelled and raised both hands towards the incoming attacks. A typhoon of black tangible shadow erupted from his palms and engulfed all the attacks and the attackers.

Boom!!! Meanwhile the third dome crumbled and a fiery explosion occurred on the inside, blowing apart the dome barriers completely.

No more human sounds could be heard any longer. Only the flaring sounds of fire, rumbling and tumbling of debris and swooshing of the hot air resounded. The shadow from previous attack faded away, leaving not even a speck of the suicide group. Over there under the rubble of the shattered domes, a few people struggled and one by one emerged from the ashes. These were powerful cultivators possessing impressive defensive techniques which allowed them to survive the powerful fire elemental attack. But even so, they were all in miserable state. Thousands of warriors had already died off in that attack. Only a few hundred survived and they had numerous injuries on them.

"Gather…!" Cao said weakly. He was injured more mentally than physically. He had spent years, raising and protecting this revolutionary army. They were all his comrades and brother in arms. Now he had witnessed their demise and had been unable to stop it. He was deeply hurt.

"I will stall him." Cao said to Maurice who was equally shaken but still in better mental condition. "Take others and escape with Lan's help."

"I refuse." Maurice said gritting his teeth. "You're forgetting that I'm the new leader of revolutionary army. I will stall him. You take the men and escape."

"You…!!" Cao stared at Maurice in disbelief. He had considered Maurice a great threat. If not for Wind's plotting, he would have tried to assassinate Maurice. Later he lost the leadership and was compensated with Aerin's body. However, for a leader like him, women didn't matter. Leadership and power did. In his heart, he disliked Maurice- the man who took away the leadership and power from Cao's hands. But at this moment, Maurice was volunteering to fight Jiao and allow Cao to escape. Cao was astonished.

"I've always disliked your passive strategies." Maurice said as he dusted off his battle armor and cracked his neck muscles, preparing for combat. "But with your passive strategies, the revolutionary army can survive. They can wait it out. Someday an Emperor realm warrior will arise. I'm certain it will be White Clown if not you. Then…we can wage a successful revolution. Go, survive and protect the revolutionary army!"

Whoosh!! Powerful chi radiated from Maurice's body. His level 2 Sage realm cultivation revealed itself fully as a butcher knife shaped greatsword emerged in his muscular hand.

"You won't be able to buy enough time." Cao said sadly. "I will fight him alongside you."

"But what will happen to others without you?" Maurice frowned. "They need a leader!"

"Qiang isn't too bad." Cao smiled. "I must say you've raised a splendid disciple."

"..." Maurice stayed silent.

"Aerin will be there to support him. There's also that cunning bastard White Clown." Cao spat.

"Humph! Then so be it." Maurice's gaze was firm.

"What are you morons doing just standing and chatting there!" A man's hoarse sound echoed as he arose from the rubble. He was a fairly handsome stout man but with a malicious scowl on his face. He was Koldorus.

"My warriors just got burnt to death by that son of a bitch!" Koldorus shouted as he stared at Jiao who was imposingly standing in air atop his chariot looking down on everyone. He was waiting for the survivors to come up and attack him again. He obviously planned on enjoying this one-sided battle.

More and more cultivators arose and gathered up. Some of them were the remaining elders of Kol kingdom, the others were captains of the revolutionary army. There were still a few weaker warriors who were defended by the nearby Sage realm warriors during the previous attack from Jiao.

"Young master…" A red-haired beauty uttered with teary eyes as she looked at the injured Ken Long. Ken was badly burnt but still survived. He had been near this girl and defended her with his own body during the fire elemental attack. This girl was none other than Huian- Ken's beloved. In the past, Huian had become Hakon's concubine in exchange of a truce between him & Long family. Afterwards during the revolution when Hakon was killed by Diamond Shi of the Stones city; Huian became free and met Ken Long. Although by then Ken was already detached from her and had been indulging in dual cultivation with Lan, he still accepted her for old time's sake and they had become a couple again. He still held feelings for Huain after all & Huian's feelings were also still there in her heart.

Currently Ken was badly injured and Huian couldn't heal him. She felt terrible.

"I'm fine, Huain." Ken said weakly. "I'm glad you're safe…Lan will take you to Wind if you two can make it out of here alive. Serve him…to repay the favor and remember…I still love you." He smiled and gently touched Huian's cheek.

"Young Master…" Huain's lips quivered before a tunnel opened under her feet and she fell into it. Ken had already discussed the retreat with Lan & she had agreed to helping Huian out of here.

Ken then regrouped with the survivors. He had reached level 1 Sage realm thanks to nonstop dual cultivation with Lan. The earth element traits that he gained were enough to help him learn and practice the Earthworm technique and Potter technique too. However, he didn't have endless amount of earth element traits like Lan. He could only use these techniques for a short duration and his range would be shorter than Lan's as well.

"Lan, prepare for a final attack." Cao instructed Lan through a technique. This final attack would definitely expose Lan. They were going all out now.

"I'll do it instead. I'll use my best move. Lan can back us up then." Ken offered. He possessed the same earth element techniques. He would be able to harm Jiao Lan's cover would not have to be sacrificed. Ken wanted Lan to survive and take Huian to safety too.

Cao nodded and changed the instructions. Within minutes everyone was clear on their roles. They were brimming with anger. This was going to be the revolutionary army's last stand!
