Chapter 3 Garren

.........

Zerha was walking dejectedly. She was pondering on the possible reasons she got reincarnated.

To be honest, I’m okay with the fact that I got reincarnated. Maybe there’s a reason for this. Maybe God has given me a second chance to live in this world. But why did I reincarnate in this place full of monsters? Huhu my Lord, nandi (why)?

As Zerha wandered around the place in search of a way out of the cave, she discovered various kinds of magical treasures. Though she didn’t know that they were magical yet, she collected everything that she saw without hesitation and put them inside her backpack.

I don’t really know why I suddenly developed an interest in these things, and I don’t really know what kinds of things these are. But whenever I see things that are new to me, I will collect them! Mwehehe maybe these things cost a fortune! If I sell them, I’ll be rich! Wahaha!

Zerha was collecting a variety of magical stones, metals, and materials. She was in the middle of doing this when she suddenly heard the sound of agonizing moans.

Zerha walked in the direction from where the sound came. Upon finding out what was causing the sound, she quickly hid in a corner.

Sh*t! Sh*t! Sh*t! A-a big black dragon! It’s bigger than the one earlier! Waaah, why did I follow that sound in the first place?

Zerha heard the howling sound again. She sneaked a peek and noticed that the dragon was in pain. She got a closer look and saw the severe wound on the dragon’s chest. The dragon was in critical condition. Zerha suddenly pitied the dragon and wanted to help it.

I want to help it, but how? If only I had healing po---yes! If I had a healing ability just like the dragon I fought earlier, maybe I can help it!

Closing her eyes, Zerha felt the power in her body and imagined the dragon’s healing power, believing that she could attain it. When Zerha started to feel something that she did not feel before, she approached the dragon and placed her palm on the dragon’s chest. Upon noticing Zerha, the dragon got ready to attack her, though it stopped when it heard the word ‘heal’.

After Zerha uttered the word ‘heal’, a bright light came out from her palm. A second later, the light vanished, and the dragon’s wound was healed.

“RAWR!”

Oh sh*t! Why didn’t I think that if I heal its wound, it will attack me? Oh no! Please, no! I just healed you; don’t attack me! Huhuhu!

The dragon shifted its gaze to Zerha, who avoided making eye contact with it while trembling in fear.

“Please don’t be scared of me.”

Huh? Who’s talking? Zerha looked around to see if anybody else was around, only to find that the dragon was the only one there with her. Ahhh! Don’t tell me the dragon is talking?!

“Thank you for healing my wound.”

Wha...what the f**k!! I-I'm right!! The dragon is t-t-talking! Ah, hold on, did it just say thank... you...? Maybe it is not a bad dragon like the one that I fought earlier. Whew! That’s a good thing, because this creature is too big!

“Ah, you’re welcome? Ha-ha.” Zerha said, letting out a fake laugh.

“Please allow me to be your guardian. I promise I will protect you even if it costs my life.” The dragon said reverently.

Guardian? And it will protect me from danger? Maybe I should accept its offer because this place is dangerous and I don’t know the other kinds of monsters I could encounter on my way out of this cave. But can I trust this dragon? What if it has a change of heart and decides to eat me?

“Why would you want to become my guardian? Can I really trust you?” Zerha asked.

“You saved my life; you are different from others. You’re the only one that saves a beast like me. Demons don’t care about the others, but you, you healed my wound. You can trust me. I’ll put my life on the line just to protect you. So please allow me to be your guardian.”

The dragon doesn’t look like it’s lying. Maybe I can really trust it. “Okay then, I’ll allow you to be my protector.”

The dragon was overwhelmed with joy that Zerha accepted its offer.

“Thank you, Master!”

Zerha nodded and smiled. “What’s your name, by the way?” She asked.

“I-I don’t have a name, Master.”

Master? “Ha-ha you don’t need to call me Master. And if you don’t have a name, can I name you?” Zerha asked excitedly.

“Yes.”

“Hmm, are you a female?”

“Master, I’m a male.”

“Eh? Hahaha! Sorry, sorry. I thought about your name and it will be, Garren! It means guardian! Do you like it?”

“Yes! Thank you, Master!”

“You don’t need to call me Master.”

“Yes, Master.”

I just said don’t call me master, Zerha made a poker face look.

“By the way, Master, how did you heal my wound? Even I couldn’t heal it myself.” Garren spoke, his voice laced with curiosity.

He can also heal himself? Do all dragons have healing powers? “I honestly don’t know. I fought a dragon, and it also had healing powers. So I tried to copy its ability, and it worked! I have healing powers now!”

“You fought another dragon? Where is he now?”

“Ah, it’s d-dead.”

“That dragon was my friend, Master.”

“Eh? Waaah, sorry! He attacked me, and I didn’t have any other choice but to fight him. Sorry.”

“It’s fine, Master, but how did you defeat him?”

“Ah, at first I used the venom from the snake, but it didn’t work, because he just kept healing himself. So I used the threads of the spider to cut him to pieces. Huhu sorry.”

Garren was shocked, because the three beasts that Zerha mentioned were very powerful, and yet she managed to defeat them all.

“You are powerful, Master! You defeated them! But how did you make their powers become yours?”

“Did I make them my own?” Zerha asked in confusion.

“Maybe. I believe that only those beasts hold those kinds of abilities. But you used those abilities like they’re your own, Master!”

“Ah ha-ha-ha.” Zerha faked a laugh, because she didn’t understand what Garren was talking about.

“Oh by the way, Garren, do you know the way out of this place? I’ve been looking for an exit route, but monsters keep appearing in front of me! Huhuhu! I don’t want to fight anymore!”

“Yes, Master. I know the way. There are lots of different beasts in this cave, but do not worry, Master. I will protect you.”

Relief washed over Zerha after hearing these words from Garren. Then she was taken aback when Garren shrank considerably in size.

“Eh? G-Garren! Y-you turned s-small!”

“Don’t worry, Master. It’s part of my ability. I can revert to my original form in a second.”

“Waaah, you’re so cute, Garren!”

A slight blush crept up Garren’s cheeks as he flew and landed on Zerha’s shoulder. They started making their way in the direction of the exit route.

While walking, Garren asked Zerha, “B-by the way, Master, how did you end up in this place?”

Should I tell him that I got reincarnated? He will believe me, right? “Actually, I got reincarnated and woke up in this cave.”

Sigh. I bet many people already miss me.

Meanwhile, in the world that she originally lived in, only one person missed her and that was her brother. She didn’t have any friends, because she was considered trouble.

“Really, Master? If you got reincarnated, do you remember your past life?”

“Ah yeah.” I’m sure I remember how I died, the people, my brother. Yeah! I remember all of it.

“No one really believes in reincarnation, but maybe it’s true, because look at you, Master. You got reincarnated!”

“Yeah, I also don’t believe in it, but maybe only a few people have experienced it and chose to keep it a secret. So don’t tell anyone, okay?”

“Got it, Master! So what was your true form back then, Master? And how did you die?” Garren asked, eager to know more about Zerha’s past life.

This dragon is so talkative. And what true form is he talking about? “I’m a human, and I died because I’m stupid! I saved a kid.” Zerha sighed.

“Master! You are not stupid; you’re a good person; you just saved a child, Master!”

“Oh, by the way, you asked me what my true form was. Is my current form not human? But I have the hands, legs, and body of a human.”

Except I have a horn.

“You are a demon, Master. You---”

“Wait, what?” D-demon? I-I’m a demon? “What’s a demon, by the way?”

“You, Master. You are a demon. That horn proves you are a demon.”

What the hell? “Do you have some kind of a mirror? I want to see my face and this f*ck*ng horn!”

“I don’t have any object of the sort, Master. But if you want to see your face, there is clear water in this cave. It can be found near the opening. We are almost there, Master.”

“Wahhh really? Okay, let’s go!”

Before they arrived, they encountered a nine-tailed fox guarding the water surface.

“What is that?” Zerha asked in shock.

“Don’t worry, Master. He’s my friend.”

Garren quickly transformed into his original form. “It’s me, and we don’t need your water.”

“Ah, it's fine if you want them. By the way,who is she?” The fox asked as she looked at Zerha who quickly ran to the water to get a look at her face.

Whoa, Garren is right! It’s very clear! But after Zerha saw her face, she screamed.

“Ahhh!”
