Chapter 11 Protector

*Time Skip 7 Years*

Time passed quickly, Kai training hard to develop his martial arts. In addition to mastering the basics of the Rouge School he began to learn swordsmanship. Unlike with his unarmed martial arts he had to learn swordsmanship on his own. From his previous life he remembered the matrix, star wars, lord of the rings, and the witcher. he began by naming his original style off of these movies and games. In his old world these would be horrible examples of swordsmanship the people lacked the agility and strength to use the swordsmanship in a manner similar to those characters. But here, superhuman was the norm, and even without chakra, few could match him in swordsmanship. He was approaching the level to use a Dragoon spirit but he did not think he could use it for a few more years at least. The youngest dragoon ever was 15 years old and she could only handle the power due to her being half mermaid. At only 12 he figures that even with the Uzumaki bloodline he would have at least 2 or three years. Truebto his decision the Third Hokage refused to allow him in the academy instead arranging tutors to help teach Kai to read write and even got him a job at a store to earn money. The Third Hokage while attempting to look after Kai had unintentionally alienated him further. Kai was still looked on as a failure and in the eyes of the civilians the Hokages decision confirmed this.

None of them had any idea how wrong they where or how soon they would be proven wrong.

Today was a big day for Naruto his first C Rank mission. Kai watched him worried as he left the gate he knew that Naruto would pull through and their team would be alright but Naruto would not come back the same the expirence he would lose alot of the innocence.

Kai was stunned for a minute he had not received a quest in a long time. He had just been quietly plugging away, not really concerned about anything due to the story not starting yet. Even Guy had no idea what he was truly capable of since Kai held back in their spars, building his foundation

Not that he had seen Guy much in the past year he was busy training his new Genin squad and Kakashi was either busy with missions or busy trying to get Jariya's new book and not really much for body training.

Kai went home to put on his armor, grab his cloak and packa bag with essentials. While he strapped his sword to his waist he considered how he was going to leave the village. (Simplest way is best) Kai thought( Hokage has been encouraging me to find a method to take care of myself especially since Naruto is now a Shinobi.) He then left for the front gate. The guards asked where he was going and he said that he had an interview with a builder for an apprenticeship in a nearby town he would return in a few days. They wished him luck and he left before the Meddling Old Grandpa could assign a gennin team or a chunnin to make sure he made it. (For someone who wouldn't let him go to the academy that old man could be overprotective sometimes) Kai thought to himself before moving along the road far enough that he wouldn't draw attention from Team 7 it was not a problem to keep up since Tazuna was slowing them down.

Kai closed the gap every night so he was less than an hour behind them, he came across the remains of the battle with the two Mist Village ninjas that attacked and caused Tazuna to reveal about Gato and that the mission was atheist a B rank maybe even higher. Like in the anime, they chose to move on. (Better hurry) Kai thought trying to decide if he should reveal himself before or after their first encounter with Zabuza.

Kai kept debating this as he approached the coast and "borrowed" a boat to get him across to the land of waves. When he arrived Kai noticed a heavy fog surrounding the area and heard the sounds of fighting. Approaching Kai saw like in the anime Zabuza imprisoning Kakashi and Naruto and Sasuke fighting a water clone. Kai then found the first deviation from the show. A second clone and that pink haired airhead was too busy watching the others to notice. (I know she is some medical genius but I forgot how useless she was at first.) Kai shook his head moving quickly and blocking the sword less than a foot from Sakura and Tazuna, shocking everyone there.

POV Kakashi

(What is he doing here? Wait better question how the hell did he stop that strike?) Kakashi thought as Kai blocked the clone. He heard Kai yell to Naruto and Sasuke "deal with yours I've got this one." followed by a masterful display of swordsmanship. Blade for blade blow for blow Kai was forcing the water clone back. away from Sakura and Tazuna. The clone switched to ninjutsu but what Kai couldn't block he dodged seeming to move as little as possible to due so. That's when Kakashi noticed it Kai while not winning was deflecting the blows instead of taking them head on. What he couldn't deflect he blocked what he couldn't block he dodges his reaction time left all who watched stunned. "BURNING RUSH" Kakashi heard Kai yell out then his sword was incased in flames and he delt a combination of strikes that killed the clone. About then Sasuke threw the demon wind shuriken Zabuza dodging a puff of smoke Naruto appeared throwing a kunai freeing Kakashi.

POV Kai

"BURNING RUSH" I yelled delivering a crushing combination to the clone slipping past its defenses and causing it to disappear. I stood unwilling to show just how exhausting of a fight that had been. I watched as Naruto and Sasuke freed Kakashi and Kakashi mopped the floor with Zabuza. Haku appeared just like the story and got away with Zabuza. Kakashi looked at me and said "When I wake up we need to talk." We got to Tazuna's house with Naruto and the others continuing to ask me questions which I avoided for now.

Kakashi slept for the rest of the day and most of the night waking up the next morning weak. He asked me to step outside with him and I knew I was about to get grilled about what I was doing here." First off thank you for yesterday." Kakashi began then followed with " Does the Hokage know where you are?" "No "I replied " But do I need to inform him." "You are a member of the leaf village." Kakashi stated angrily "To leave without permission can result in you being declared...." "Declared what?" I asked. " A Missing Ninja? Wouldn't I have to graduate the academy, receive a headband? I am a civilian and as such can go where I please." Kakashi sighed knowing he has a point but not willing to let his teachers son and student brother just wander off. " You have bigger problems than me though" Kai stated while looking at Kakashi

" Iknow Zabuza survived right?" Kakashi asked. " Yeah more than likely. Senbon are a poor choice for a weapon to kill a ninja of Zabuza's level. You should train your team a fight is coming and they won't underestimate you guys a second time." Kai responded. "What about you?" Kakashi asked. "I'm going to do my own thing," Kai responded "Your training would do little for me no chakra remember?" With that Kai walked off to explore the land of waves.
