The Proposal

The Demon Lord was furious at his failed attempt in entering the human world, he was so angry he challenged the remaining troops on the split ship and killed all of them as an act of venting his anger and frustration. That day the Demon Lord called for a meeting at the court to discuss ways forward and a means to infiltrate the human world. The attendees were very reluctant to attend as they didn't originally agree with the idea of breaking long-standing peace between realms but they were compelled by the oath of devotion. An oath is sworn when a demon is elected into the demon council and when a new priest is welcomed into the order. The oath binds members of the council with loyalty and total obedience to the throne and if broken, results in expulsion to the dark dimension.

"I'm sure you all know why we're here," the Demon Lord asked.

"We do my Lord" the entire council answered in unison.

"As you all know, our first attempt to infiltrate the human realm was a failure because of the betrayal from one of our own, I speak of Sarah Burton and I'm sure many of you know her as she was a long-serving servant at the Royal castle. She's with the boy who possesses my father's powers and her daughter and another woman I do not know of. And they have become a great thorn in my side, but for now, they're not our top priority. We'll attack again soon when we receive word from three of our best spies who snuck into the city unnoticed during the battle. They'll live like humans until they find a way of giving us passage into the Human realm. Any questions?" the Demon Lord asked.

"I still do not agree with this war your majesty, if we manage to get in again and word reaches the Angel race things will go sour for us, and with your father's power in the hands of the opposition we don't stand a chance I'm afraid," a council member said.

"You make a valid point, but I assure you after retrieving my father's power the Angel race will be crushed if they interfere". the Demon Lord said. After a while, nobody could muster the boldness to say any other thing so the meeting came to an end. The Demon Lord wasn't the patient type but it was a virtue he had to learn if he wanted his plan to succeed.

Melissa and the rest of the team excluding Sarah were always out visiting places in Paris and having as much fun as they could. Alice who was slowly becoming a master at her art was surprised when she saw a mobile phone, she thought it to be the best piece of magic she had ever seen as it could contact anybody all over the world and it could trap tiny people inside it too. "but those are just games and movies" Peter explained "you won't get it though, its a Nomag thing he said. Sarah wasn't part of their little cruise as she felt the danger wasn't averted and rightly so. She would take inspection tours around an already empty Normandy to find clues of any remaining Demon soldier but couldn't, then it dawned on her that maybe a special unit had already used perfect disguises and found their way Into Paris, and there was nothing she or the Council could do as a spell that would locate them wasn't possible.

That evening, Sarah was having dinner with her family when Mr. Pierre and Madame Grace visited them.

"We deeply apologize for coming uninvited like this, but we couldn't wait till morning to offer you this proposal," Madame Grace said.

"It's no problem, have a sit and eat with us while I take the champagne from ice," Sarah said heading for the kitchen counter which had a bucket of Champagne on ice on it.

"So what might this proposal be?" Sarah asked as she took her seat once more, struggling with the cork of the chilled bottle.

"We fought side by side at the battle of Normandy and I couldn't help but notice how skillful you all are," Mr. Pierre said.

"Well we do try our best in constant learning of spells," Sarah said cheekily as they all burst out in laughter.

"And on that ground, we would like to offer the four of you seated here Jobs as teachers at the école de magie," Mr. Pierre said this time with a little more serious look on his face.

"I'm not sure I'd want to involve myself in human affairs at the moment," Sarah said as she carefully picked apart her piece of chicken with her hands.

"This would be a great opportunity for you to also learn our magic too, I know this is asking too much but the reality is we're under armed and we'll need all the help we can get and your teachings will come in very handy in preparing us for war," the Principal said. Alice looked into Sarah's eyes as if to say they should take the offer. Peter clenched Sarah's hand with the same look about his eyes.

"What would we be teaching?" Sarah answered a little reluctantly.

"Offense magic, we do very well in defense magic but your expertise and style will be a great addition to us all" Madame Grace said.

"Very well then, when do we resume?" Sarah asked.

"Next school year, but we'd prefer your resume right away if you'd be so kind," Mr. Pierre said looking keenly at Sarah.

"It seems they're ok with it, so no problem then," Sarah said taking a look at Peter and Alice but she noticed Melissa and saw she wasn't looking particularly pleased but Peter and Alice's approval was enough for her plus she'd need them learning about healing magic as it would be vital knowledge in the times ahead.

Alice didn't allow Peter any space as she kept on ranting about what she'd teach her new students first, but soon anxiety started to creep in. She started wondering if they'd accept her or if they'd just call her demon and make fun of her hair, but Peter comforted her and made her understand that as complicated as humans could be, they're cool and they'd accept her and treat her like their own. Instantly Alice cheered up and asked Peter what kind of teacher he would be, Peter got on the bed and started demonstrating like a teacher would which made Alice laugh a lot. But the reality was that Peter had always struggled with social anxiety he was shy and he preferred being alone, if not for the circumstances in which he met Alice, Sarah, and Melissa he didn't want to have any friends.

Sarah went over to Melissa's room that night to find out what she thought about the whole idea as she didn't ask her opinion back at the dinner table.

"I'm sorry I didn't ask your permission, the kids bought the idea and they looked so happy and I thought why not," Sarah said standing at the entrance to the room.

"It's totally fine, I understand and I'm cool with it," Melissa said as she focused on getting the dirt off her boot.

"What do you think about it?" Sarah asked.

"If you ask me, these humans aren't worth fighting for. Look at how they live their lives, with hatred, bigotry, and all the stupid things they do. why do you think I complained whenever we came here back then?!" Melissa asked.

"All these things you mentioned happen in the demon realm too it's everywhere Mel" Sarah explained.

"I know but there we recognize these things as evil and people are killed if they're caught. But here it's been so practiced it's become a normal way of life and people are celebrated for it, it sickens me" Melissa said as she dropped her boot and left the room. Although Melissa was cross with Sarah she respected her too much to go against her wishes.
