Carter rolled himself on his bed, groaning ceaselessly and stopped when he heard a sudden knock on the door of his room. His brows arched questionly, Who could that be?It couldn't be Cole.

He was probably hanging out with his friends in their usual hangout place. 

Whether it was Cole or not, he didn't want to keep the person waiting. So he invited the person in, "You can come in" Carter got off the bed and sat properly on the edge.

The door creaked open and Paul Graham came in, Carter's father. The scowl he carried on his face made Carter know the news of him wanting to reject Avril had gotten to him already.

His father and Alpha Mills were best friends so the news of him wanting to reject Avril was sure to reach his father by now even if Carter tried hiding it from his father.

"Oh father" Carter got up from the bed, "Is anything Wrong?" He feigned innocence as if not knowing the real reason his father came to see him.

"Sit!" His father said to him which sounded more of a command than an ordinary statement and Carter sat back on his bed. His father definitely knew he wanted to reject Avril.

Paul Graham closed the door and walked up to his son and joined Carter on his bed, taking in a deep breath, he asked, "Is it true?".

Carter knew what his father meant by that statement but he still feigned innocence and asked, "I don't understand father, what do you mean by-'' Carter wasn't done with his statement when his father interrupted, saying.

"Don't you dare act like you don't know what I'm talking about, I am not a fool Carter!" Paul Graham roared fiercely, he was so mad at Carter. He was in bed when he got a phone call from his best friend, Alpha Mills and the news he received from him shook him greatly.

"If it is about me rejecting Avril, then I'm sorry" Carter made known to his father, staring at him eyeball to eyeball causing his father to yell out loud. Carter covered his ears to prevent ear damage, his father may be old but the man could actually win a grammy award with his voice.

"Tell me it's not true, son" Paul Graham clutched his chest tightly, he just received the biggest shock of his life. How could Carter do such a thing?.

Carter shook his head slowly, saying to his father, "I'm truly sorry father but it's true" He turned his face to the side to avoid the old man's gaze. His father was overreacting because of the rejection news, as if it was a big deal.

"Oh Carter, you are just going to kill me before my time!" Paul Graham yelled and threw soft punches on Carter's back. Carter didn't flinched nor tried avoiding it. He deserved it for making his father behave that way because of the rejection news.

"Why Carter, why do you have to reject Avril?She's such a nice girl" Paul Graham groaned ceaselessly, still throwing soft punches on Carter's back but he stopped on hearing Carter say.

"She's a nice girl father but I can't get fully mated to her, I'm sorry" Carter bowed his head, and exhaled deeply. Paul Graham groaned and his brows furrowed.

"Why can't you Carter, I thought you left Ariel for Avril?. Why the hell are you suddenly changing your mind?" Paul Graham asked worriedly, something was wrong somewhere.

Carter sighed, facing his father and said, "I never loved Avril, it was all an act father. Ariel's the one I truly love".

Paul Graham almost collapsed because of the words of his son. Carter wasn't himself, he must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. "But Avril's your mate, forget about this love nonsense and get fully mated to Avril".

Carter gave his father a deadpan stare, the old man didn't understand him. "You don't understand father" He sighed again.

"Then make me understand" Paul Graham requested with a poker face. He had no idea what Carter was talking about and neither did he understand.

"I hate this mating stuff father, why do we have to get mated instead of finding someone we love?. I sincerely hate it, F**k the goddess" Carter shook his head slowly and his father scolded him for saying that last word.

"Hey don't you transfer your aggression on the goddess, you don't want to end up getting your ass cursed!" Paul Graham scolded with gritted teeth. He knew Carter wasn't happy, but him cursing the moon goddess wasn't the right thing to do.

"I'm sorry about that father but I seriously hate the way this thing works. It's as if our lives are being controlled and getting mated to who you don't love is the worst" Carter spat bitterly. 

Paul Graham saw the hurt in his son's eyes but what could he do?. He came over to Carter's room to scold him and change his mind about him thinking about rejecting Avril, but listening to Carter speak somehow changed his mind.

"You are right son, we don't get to choose who we love but we can't do anything about it either" Paul Graham shrugged, "I don't know how this love stuff works out for you but I accepted your mom as my mate and eventually I fell in love with her. So you could never tell what could happen in the future, you might end up falling in love with Avril''.

Carter was starting to enjoy the conversation between him and his father but the moment his father dropped those last words, he almost puked "I understand your point father but Avril's not the one for me. I can't be fully bonded mates with her and I will fully face the consequences that would come after I reject her".

Paul Graham stared at his son trying to read his face but he couldn't. There was too much trouble washing all over Carter's face, as if he wasn't sure and well prepared for what he was about to do. 

Well he had to be, because Alpha Mills wasn't going to let him go scout free if he messed up with his daughter's heart and since Carter said he was going to face the consequences then he should be quite ready to face Alpha Mills.

Paul Graham knew his best friend too well and he certainly wasn't the type to let things go easily when offended. Paul Graham needed to know how sure and ready his son was on facing the consequences that would come after he would reject Avril so he asked Carter.

"Since you are hell-bent on rejecting Avril and fully ready to face the consequences. Better get yourself ready to face Alpha Mills".
