No Hero Exists

Hosuh ran away from home as a young boy and soon met the prince of the kingdom, Beaumont. Beaumont was ready to be king until his father suddenly passed away; he took the throne and became selfish with greed. Hosuh took an oath as Beaumont's head guard to protect his life at all costs, even if it meant risking his own. Hosuh took this at ease until he watched the sweet boy he loved turn into a tyrant King. He wanted him to change - but he knew his friend and knew that the town needed a better ruler. What he didn't realize was that this choice would come with consequences. *Warning- story contains gore, fantasy/violence, discussions of war and weapons, political talk, child abuse, lgbtq+, etc. If any of these topics offend you- in any way, please stray away from my book.* Extra information: I did not create the front cover of my book- my best friend dani_tales4u on Instagram and on Webnovel created the graphic! Liam

"Here you are, boy. Enjoy." He presented me with 1 penny, 1 shilling, and two farthings. "Aye, we agreed to 60£, not-" The man glared, "I'm sure we can settle by other means..." His coat swayed, revealing a gun within his belt. I caught a breath, "Have yourself a good evenin." I tilted my head, walking off. I waited, examining a food stand. I trotted towards it; my fingers seized a tomato and pinched it. "Child, that is not a toy-" The female vendor told me.

"I'm aware, and I am merely testing for rotting." I continued inspecting two apples and an onion. The colors were bright, smelled fair, and there were no holes. I handed them to the woman, seeing her bag them and tell me the price- "4.30£." My sights fell onto my palms, giving her the shilling, grasping the bag and the change. "Slán." I went on my way, closing in on an alley.

"Hungry..." I saw a young boy calling out for my help. I looked down at my coins and food. I felt in between, Do I help this boy... *Bong* The bell rang, and I stared at the boy, "I apologize, greatly." I fled, feeling guilty and overwhelmed- this heavy throbbing, my lungs were closing- "Liam!" I felt arms embrace me, seeing my sister cheerfully. My worries disappeared, "Ready to go?" "YES!" She ran home with me, following.

We arrived, noticing our window shattered. I pulled out a knife, going inside, and it seemed empty. I scanned our glass-filled floors, broken stool, and our covers only held four to five items. "Liam, I wish for help with an assignment." I nodded, "Put your equipment away and rush back." She pranced, urging me to repair the chair with a hammer and nail. I then tore some cardboard, taping the piece to the broken window and cleaning up the shards. I sighed, holding my head.

I shook my skull, struggling to nudge my memories away. I held a crate, reaching the library to spot Stephan outside. His sights landed far into town, and I curiously peeked in the identical direction. I soon realized the subject of interest was Hosuh- "Ya sure have a knack for the good ones," I announced with Stephan approving. "He's kind and a good friend."

I noticed Hosuh plop a box near the alley with a girl retrieving it. "I wonder how he does it..." "Hm?" "Hosuh and I hardly earn enough to support ourselves, and yet he proceeds to help the poor." I rationalized. "Mh, I presume it's on morality then riches." "Huh?" My eyes narrowed.

"See this- Everyone carries various beliefs such as what makes you more valuable than others? Some would assist the poor no matter the circumstances, but most would benefit themselves."

My eyes pondered, "But... how do you know which is the best choice?" He patted my shoulder, "The thing is- you never know. You just do what feels best." I sighed. "Why do you converse during work hours?" I was about to attack, but a hand clamped my fist- I looked back at Hosuh.

"Feck! Do not startle me!" I barked. "I shan't; however, there seems to be a thief calling you." I grinned, "I once and for all shall eat its head off!" "I wish you luck." Stephan interrupted Hosuh, "And safety." "Thanks a million." I gave up the crate to Hosuh, heading off. I took a moment to watch Hosuh, feeling a slight grin appear, leaving once more.
