Chapter 34: Night In Blood II

........

"Give sorrow words; the grief that does not speak knits up the o-er wrought heart and bids it break." ~ William Shakespeare

Sorrow, it was well hidden, but Isaac could see it in Fugaku's eyes. When Isaac went back to see countless bodies scattered about, blood forming a river under Fugaku's feet.

The bodies were mostly those of the enemies. Their surprise attack wasn't so much of a surprise attack after all.

That's why Fugaku stayed back in the camp, just in case something like this happened. He was confident that he could protect the camp if things turned out for the worse, he would still be able to hold strong.

And he did, proved by the scattered dead bodies everywhere, and how little of them belong to the Uchihas.

However, the cost was hefty as he sat on his knees, before the body of his close friend, apparently someone he grew up with.

The said friend had a hole in his chest, a deep stab wound that took the breath of life out of him, lying in a pool of blood.

There was a hint of sorrow on Fugaku's face, but mostly hidden with unusual coldness, and most importantly, his eyes were bleeding as if spilling tears of blood.

"All dead?" Fugaku asked Isaac as the latter stood beside him; in the tone of a broken man.

"All dead," Isaac nodded before adding, "I will tend to the wounded."

Isaac did as he said, eyeing the anger in the survivors, the vengeful desire within them, and how broken the war had left them.

Isaac noticed a peculiarity, quite the simple oddity yet it speaks a lot about the impact of war on them. The Uchihas... They weren't blinking much, and the rate at which they blink is only getting lower.

Their eyeballs can't help but trace the darkness of the woods around them, seemingly out of paranoia.

They were always on guard, so used to keeping full awareness of the surroundings and never blinking in battle, and that translated to how they behaved in camp.

Isaac could even see some of the Uchihas often reflexively pull out their weapons only to realize there was no danger around.

He could also hear some of them scream awake in the middle of the night, seemingly awakened by nightmares.

Maybe it was Fugaku's time to experience some nightmares of his own for nightmares will most definitely visit him.

No one awakens Mangekyo Sharingan without nightmares paying them a visit, Fugaku is the same.

However, Isaac is a special case for his nightmares are having to sleep at all, instead of working toward perfection.

Indeed, Isaac was certain that Fugaku had awakened his Mangekyo Sharingan due to the death of his dear friend then he overused it, thus the blood running down his eyes.

It was quite the gloomy night, a night spent in blood as they had to clean off the blood of the enemy as well as their friends.

The bodies of their enemies were assembled together and set on fire while the bodies of their friends were stored in scrolls using the Enclosing technique.

The Uchihas were pretty much used to this, but that made it no less maddening than it was the first time.

In fact, the Uchihas' anger and wrath only grew. They were quite the vengeful spirits after all.

When you go to war, you hope to survive, but you expect death. The Uchihas expected death, but that didn't make losing their loved ones any less painful.

That was especially so after the enemy's clutches awakened the representation of vengeance in Fugaku's eyes.

The Uchihas definitely won't settle for staying the passive party after this. Isaac could see it in Fugaku's eyes.

And indeed, only days passed before the arrival of the Uchihas' retaliation as he hunted the enemy in the woods, their bloody eyes allowing them to gain the advantage.

It was basically a struggle of who could ambush who, hunting each other in the woods, and so far, the war was tilted toward the Uchihas, albeit only slightly so.

Things would stay the same for months as the war became a struggle, something that shouldn't normally be possible. However, two annoying cockroaches made things very difficult.

The two individuals are A and B, literally. The man named A isn't the third Raikage himself, but his son, also called Ay.

B or Killer B, on the other, was his right-hand man, his tag partner as they call it in the Cloud Village, and most importantly, he is the Jinchūriki of the Eight-Tails, Gyūki.

Just that simple information should make it clear why the war was a struggle for Jinchūriki are humans that have tailed beasts sealed within them.

They are capable of exhibiting extraordinary powers due to the immense chakra reserves they possess.

After all, what they have within them are Tailed Beasts which are the nine titanic living forms of chakra created by the Sage of Six Paths out of the chakra from the Ten-Tails.

They are monstrosities feared by most as only the likes of the First Hokage could hope to imprison them.

Today, the Tailed Beasts are spread throughout the world, used by the villages that own them as weapons of war, at a cost.

Jinchūriki typically have their tailed beasts sealed into them early in their lives, often shortly after birth, so that they can grow up acclimating to their beast.

Which seal is used differs from village to village, thus the consequences differ as well. Some seals hold strong while others loosen, allowing the beasts to run amok.

In fact, even the best seals aren't capable of completely imprisoning the beasts.

And that brings us to Killer B, someone who has one of the most dangerous tailed beasts sealed within him, and that naturally brought a lot of trouble to the Uchihas.

That, after all, means that defeating Killer B isn't so simple as it may entail the beast within him running amok.

That's on top of also facing Ay, all with mostly Isaac and Fugaku alone, understandably a difficult task.

Today was different for Isaac and Fugaku were joined by the most famous figure in the war, none other than Namikaze Minato.
