There’s one more thing that we lack, That’s empathy

"Jessica! Is it really okay to take the keys and come here without the permission of Mr. Hans's?" I asked worriedly.

"Don't be so wimp. Mr. Han was sniffing in his deep sleep. No way he was able to notice me. Don't worry I'll put the keys in their place. Moreover, the rooftop belongs to no one."

I sighed and said, "You really are daring."

"Anyway, don't get that in your mind. Let's go there." She held my hand and began running. After that, I sat on a brick that was supposed to be used for construction. It was laying there idle. On the other side, Jessica was walking sideways of the roof. That was dangerous. I tried to stop her from doing that,

"Hey! Don't do it. It's dangerous. You might fall from there."

But she didn't listen to me. She is free in spite that no one can stop her from doing what she wanted.

"I'll be fine. You should worry about yourself." She teased in while laughing diligently.

At some point, she stopped walking and stood there. I thought she might want to come down there because she had enough of it. But she didn't do that instead she threw a strange question out of nowhere.

"Say, Jodan. If I someday I would have been attacked by them. What would you do?" Her smiling face shifted to a serious-looking one. It was not a smooth transition rather a harsh one.

Within a second, she snapped back to her usual self. But she, unfortunately, looked down the building and was about to lose her balance. I noticed it quickly and as I result, I was able to hold her soft hand.

"I-I'll save you. Even if it causes my life…" I replied to the inquiry she made earlier. Both of our faces turned red. We then distanced ourselves a little.

"That's a cheeky line, your dumbass." She said in embarrassment.

"S-Sorry… Jessica… I couldn't keep the promise I made to you. S-Sorry." My voice cracked as tears fall.

"You should quit sobbing. This is high time you should move on. Crying over her death wouldn't bring her to you." Kelan said calmly although I became furious with his words for no particular reason.

I didn't respond to his words and mumbled on my own. A girl was driving the truck who I didn't know about next to her was Kelan and in the back were Mr. Heriss and me. Kelan introduced the girl on the driver's seat when I was about to enter the truck.

"Let me introduce you to 'Luna Katz'. This might be your first time seeing her as she works on delivering the goods. That's her main job. The truck is in her procession."

"H-Hello, Luna? Hope we get along." I said stupidly and didn't even try to be friendly at all. I was already been hurt due to Jessica's d-death.

She replied to my half-assed greeting, "Huh? Good, I don't befriend weaklings, Remember that" She made a scornful look.

"As you can see, she's not very approachable." Kelan scratched his head in an unusual pattern. He might be apologized to me because of her rude behavior.

We all were quietly seated, doing nothing but Kelan was answering various calls one after one. Most of them were the direction of which roads we should go as all the roads are blocked by police checkpoints. We have to avoid them as much as possible. Sometimes he would ask Mr. Heriss what he should do.

In my sights, they were some kind of gang members who worked all together like a team. Whether it's a dangerous situation or a delighted one they slog in a team. I found it very exciting to see them doing their team works. I felt like a VIP who they were obligated to take them to the destination place.

Luna suddenly turned the radio on and breaking news began podcasting. As the news reciter was about to recite the news Kelan turn it off hurriedly. Only I and Luna were shocked to see Kelan's sudden behavior.

"What the heck? Did you piss on your pants today?" She didn't even hessite to curse Kelan. Kelan didn't react to her. Perhaps this was her nature. As Luna was about to turn it on again, Kelan hold her hand tightly and gave a serious reaction. Then murmured something to her that I didn't clearly hear.

"Don't….. Mr. Heriss...…"

She moved her hand back to the steering wheel, "Whatever…" When I observed her, I could see the torn-out tomboy clothes on her. It looked dirty Maybe she had to run an errand. I couldn't help but compare her to Jessica who was a beautiful, nice girl. She might be everyone's ideal choice."

As I was intensely observing her, she noticed it and said without looking back at me.

"Hey, you! Don't stare at me. Weirdo." Her bosom would bounce whenever the truck jumped. After getting criticized by her I averted my dead eyes to the window. I didn't perceive the rain up until now. Was I that busy gathering my thoughts? The rain was pouring heavily. Today the sky is also crying. Is it for you Jessica?

Without looking at Mr. Heriss, I asked him a rather curious question.

"Mr. Herris, How are you able to create such a copy of human emotions?"

Mr. Heriss looked like he was sure where, to begin with.

"Human Emotions are simple yet much complicated to understand. And the most important thing is it is hard to recreate. I wonder how humans do it so easily. Perhaps because they're born with it.

There are many factors of emotions. Like happy, sad, excited, etc. If one smiles, we grant it as a happy emotion. If one cries, we grant it as a sad emotion and think that he or she is probably sad. But here comes the twist, when one smiles and cry at the exact time. What will you call it, Jodan? Is he or she happy or sad? You were also crying and laughing all at once when we found you in the apartment."

"Did I really do that? I didn't recall anything though."

"You certainly did. You didn't answer what I asked you yet."

"If I have to tell you then that would be a happy one. I don't know in reality but in movies, people would do make that emotion whenever something really good happened to them. They would smile while tears would fall out of their eyes.

"I suppose you could say that. Just one face unravels numerous emotions. Humans have the power to emit so many emotions at once.

There's one more thing that we lack, That's empathy. Even we acted like we feel it but that doesn't end the fact that it's fake. If you observe carefully, we would be caught in a single moment. No matter how hard we try, that's impossible for us.

To live in human society, we are bound to act like humans. In the end, we could do just one thing. Replicate them. Do as they do.

To make things easy. We take one emotion to act on. For example, smiling. You might already gasp it from Kelan. He only acts to smile. He just makes a wide grin whenever he's in front of humans. They sometimes find it weird. Like one day a regular customer died in a car accident. The customer's son came to us to invite us to attend his father's funeral. I took Kelan with me, When we entered the hall that was prepared to pay respect to the dead customer, Everyone looked at Kelan with scornful eyes because he was smiling brightly. It was really an embarrassing situation." Mr. Heriss laughed it out.

"Don't say it, Mr. Heriss!" Kelan shouted to stop Mr. Heriss. He was feeling awkward to have me listen to his old embarrassing tales.
