Dumbfounded by what I just heard

"look! He opened his eyes. He's alive!" A cheerful voice got into my ears. He was smiling although it looked unrealistic to me.

"We don't have time. Take him with you. The police would come in anytime soon. Hurry leave!" the old man who was behind ordered the male. Listening to his order, the male pulled me up and placed me on his shoulder hurriedly. Is he a superman? How could he lift me so easily? As I was thinking that my continuousness bumped into reality. Oh! Right. Jessica is waiting for me. She would be very mad if I became late. Jessica? That woman! That woman killed her! I recalled all the things that happened a while ago.

Why did Jessica have to die? What did she do to have such a fate? I'm gonna kill you bitch!

"K-Kill you… Kill you…" I murmured simultaneously.

"W-what? You did get beaten badly by that lady, Jodan. I think you shouldn't hold any grudge against that woman. You put up a worthless fight against her. Did you forget about that? The power difference between you and that woman is huge. All I can see is that you would never be able to win."

"W-what do you about me! How important Jessica was to me! There's no way I could forget that!" I was agonized by the incident greatly. I tried to look at him but couldn't because my head was facing his back. But how did he know my name? Is he someone I knew?

He was running down the stairs while carrying me on his shoulder. But he wasn't tried at all. He didn't even take any break. In normal cases, the person in charge of carrying should feel exhausted. Was he not a human? As I was thinking who he is? What he and the old man want? We finally came out of the building. He swiftly opened his phone and dialed someone. Within a few seconds, his call was answered.

"Mr. Herris, I got out of the building. Are you also out?" he asked worriedly.

I was dumbfounded by what I just heard. Mr. Herris? Is that old man Mr. Herris? What in the world is happening? I couldn't hear a reply from the other side. But it might be something like "wait there" I gasped at it from his actions. He spoke out again.

"I know you well, Jodan. You're a person who would freak out for the slightest. By the way, how did you use that ancient power? It's extremely rare. I hardly know anyone who could do such extraordinary power." Saying that he placed me beside a wall to support my back.

"Kelan?" That was the first thing I said.

"Yes. You got me right! Jodan," He said with the same smile he had all the time. "You are one of us, Jodan. But I'm not involved with the women you fight earlier."

I didn't have any word left to say but I said in the end.

"If you're not with that woman then why're you doing here?" I seriously questioned him.

"Oh, that was because Sutasi told us that you might be in danger." He said in response. "He saw that women going into your building."

Now that Kelan mentioned it, I bumped into Sutasi on my way home. He did say something like,

"Don't go home today. You might get k--" So the last word is killed.

What I knew about him was so little that I didn't even bother to believe his word. My back was torching the brick wall that was concealed with moss. The sky was filled with various stars that day. Kelan's spiky hair was wagging as the cold wind blow of. It looked like a sea of waves. The atmosphere was calm yet noisy. The siren of police cars was beaming left and right far away.

"Do you hate me, Jodan?" A calm voice entered my ears.

He didn't face me. He was looking on the other side where I couldn't see his face. But I was sure that he didn't have the smile he would always have.

"N-No, why would I? it's not that you did anything wrong to me. More likely you saved me."

Kelan looked like he didn't expect that answer.

"What's the matter? Did you expect something else?" I asked him with a smug.

"umm, N-No, That's not… I saw the hate that you have towards that woman. Hence, I thought you would also hate me." Kelan wasn't smiling. He had an expressionless look.

"W-What happened to you? I freaked out to see the unexpected sight.

Then again, he regained his usual grin.

"Ah, Sorry. My act went off there."

"Act?" I asked in wonder as I lifted my head slightly.

"We didn't feel any emotion and can't make an expression with it. So, to make things easy for us, we act to smile, laugh or cry. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to live with a human. If we didn't act, they would find us in no time."

What Kelan said was most probably right. I also faced the same problem. I tried to fix it by acting but failed miserably. I'm more shocked to see that how beautifully Kelan was able to act. On the other hand, I wasn't able to a single sh*t. However, I was able to make a genuine smile a few days ago when everything was fine and Jessica… was… alive… It is quite a mystery.

As I was thinking how Kelan was able to live in the midst of humans, an old man wearing a hat and long sleeve t-shirt.

"Yo! Jodan, did you wake up?" For some reason, Mr. Heriss seemed young to me. Was it because he was wearing a t-shirt? Whatever the reason was I looked at him in wonder.

"You're also one of them?"

In response, he said, "Yeah, Yeah. I'm. But you're also one of them Jodan. Isn't it fate for you? We came here to save you." He smiled fatefully although I wasn't sure if it was his act. Perhaps it was because he's a Psychopath.

"you guys knew that I was one of them?" I asked in astonishment. Mr.Heriss took out his smiling act and looked at me with expressionless, serious eyes.

"We knew it from the start. The first time I saw was the time I knew that you wer-" Kelan interrupted his conversation with me.

"Sir! We don't have time to discuss this here. The police might search the whole area. I got a call from Sutasi, All the police officers are on patrol."

"Huh? This might be a big case then. But why would so many officers be on run for a single murder case?" Mr. Heriss stared at Kelan in surprise.

"Because this murder case might be connected to some big ones?"

"Probably you're right? Okay, we gotta live now. Else we don't want to be captured. Mr. Heriss said hurriedly, "Can you walk?" He asked me. In answer, I nodded my head.

We three left the area using the delivery truck that was parked a little distance from the building.
