Chapter 2 - Tortilla Chips

After a while the guilt started to seep in, I had accused a completely innocent man due to my own rashness. I avoided Kai at school for the rest of the week, gym was the hardest because my eyes would unconsciously follow him around. It wasn't my fault! He was built to perfection.

And I know I wasn't the only one staring, all throughout gym multiple girls would try to talk to him. However each one got shot down as fast as lightning. Well to be fair he wasn't even rejecting them, it was the demeanour in which he responded that led the girls to feel neglected. He stared at them coldly and responded shortly.

His looks were one thing but his personality left for much to be desired.

"Hi dad" I said as I walked into my kitchen.

"Hi sweetie" he said smiling and giving a quick peck on my forehead. He looked to be in a hurry.

"I have to head to the main branch for the weekend, remember?" He said as he continued to grab all his things. My dad, Rick LeCarte, worked at a branch office of a business. He had to attend yearly meetings at the main branch to discuss difficulties and new ideas.

I said bye to him and then went back upstairs, I could hear music coming from my brother's room and assumed he brought his friends again. I groaned realizing that this meant he was going to hold parties all night like he's done for the past four years. I picked up my phone to call Bella and ask her if I could stay at her house but soon remembered that her cousins from Germany were staying over for their school break.

I frantically called Angie, as awkward at it would be to ask someone that you knew for less than a week to let you sleepover, I was desperate. The last time I had stayed home for one of his parties there was loud music all night and I had ended up hearing something extremely unpleasant when walking by my brother's room to get to the kitchen the next morning. And besides Angie and I had gotten really close over the week, hopefully she wouldn't mind.

"Hey, so my brother's throwing a party today and-" I started to speak before being cut off.

"Party? Wait your brother's Zach?" she asked in surprise.

"Yea..." I said unsure of how she knew that.

"It's great that I'll know someone else there!" she said excitedly "why don't we get ready together?"

I was confused now, the conversation was heading in a completely different direction. "Wait, what do you mean?"

"My boyfriend, Josh, is in the same soccer team as them. He asked me to come to the party just before you called" she said.

"Oh um, sure then!" I said reluctantly, if Angie was planning on going to the party then I had nowhere else to go. Might as well join in the fun, though I wasn't sure how my brother was going to react to it....

~~~~~
"Which one do you think is nicer?" Angie asked, holding up a strapless tight red dress and a two-piece dark green cropped top with skirt.
"Hmm, I like the red dress better. It contrasts well with your skin" Angie came back out with the red dress on. She had a dark complexion and the red dress stood out on it.
I grabbed a short white lacy dress from my closet and slipped it on. After applying foundation and setting it with powder, I did some smoky eyeshadow and stuck lashes on. I applied dark red lipstick to my lips.
Angie smiled in approval, "wow you look gorgeous".
I grinned "not too bad yourself". I could hear the loud music coming from downstairs, we waited until the house was filled with people to go down. I was planning on avoiding my brother, as hard as that would be considering it is his party and his house too.
I walked downstairs tentatively with Angie and felt relieved to see my brother not around.
"Hey beautiful!" a tall, dark man walked closer to us and kissed Angie on the lips. I smiled, they were such a cute couple.
"Hey handsome" Angie said pecking him back "this is Sapphire, and Saph this is Joshua" she said introducing us.
"Zach's sister right? Nice to meet the sibling of the devil himself" He said grinning. I grinned back at him, Zach was well known for being a spartan on the field, and being the captain of this year's team it was bound to be worse.
We walked over to the kitchen to grab some drinks, Josh handed us both a beer. He did a handshake with one of the guys standing by the counter shoving tortilla chips into his mouth.
"Hey man" the guy said finally swallowing all the food. I chuckled, he had sauce dripping off the side of his mouth. He noticed and blushed slightly, wiping it off. "So who are these beautiful girls?"
Josh introduced us, his name was Carlos Hearth and he was also on the soccer team.
~~~~~

"We're going to go dance, are you guys going to come?" Angie said grabbing Josh's hand.

"I'm good, I'm just going to finish drinking this first" I said looking at the still full can of beer in my hand. Angie nodded and looked towards Carlos.

"I'm going to have some more chips" Carlos said, with more sauce on his face. We all looked towards him in disbelief, he had ate a whole bowl of them and still wanted more? Josh shook his head and walked away with Angie towards the living room.

I grabbed some chips out of Carlos' bowl, scooping some sauce and popping it in my mouth. "Oh wow this is good".

"I'm sure it is, considering you stole it from me" he said looking at me narrowly. He put his hands around the bowl and tried to move it away from him, but was too late as I grabbed a handful more of chips and shoved them in my mouth.

Carlos' mouth dropped down in shock, and I started to laugh forgetting that I had a handful of chips in my mouth and began to choke. His eyes widened in surprise this time, as he started patting my back hard and got me a glass of water.

I coughed in relief as I felt the food finally go down. Carlos sighed in relief as well "maybe now you'll learn not to steal my chips again" he said sticking his tongue out at me. I stuck my tongue back at him, enjoying the moment before I heard a particular voice I had been dreading.

"Saph?!" I looked towards my brother who glared at me before glancing down at the can in my hand and Carlos beside me. "What are you doing here?"

"Well duh it's my house, where else would I be?" I asked as I rolled my eyes. I looked at my brother and noticed Kai standing beside him.

"That's not what I mean! You're still a kid, you shouldn't be drinking and at a party."

"What? How old are you? Not to mention you're Zach's sister?" Carlos asked from beside me.

"Why are you asking her for her age?! It's none of your business" Zach snapped at him.

"Hey! Don't talk to him that way. You're such a hypocrite, I can do what I want. Do you want me to tell dad about this?!" I snapped back at him.

Zach glared, "fine do what you want" he said grabbing more cans of beer and walking away. Kai glanced at me and followed Zach.
