Chapter 25

He busied himself with showering and tidying up Mathias’ mess. Normally, Edmund slept most of the day through, but on the odd occasion where he was trapped inside by sunlight, there was more than enough to occupy his time while he waited for night to come. Today, he planned to search for signs of Tatiana in the city. Mathias might choose to comb through the streets on foot, but Edmund had long ago mastered electronic navigation. In a world that denied him passage so much of the time, he’d had to find alternate routes. Computers and the Internet were excellent options.

He had just settled at his desk when the pounding started at the door. Edmund glanced at the time on his computer. The sun was only now cracking over the horizon. Who would be visiting at this hour? And worse, why were they determined to wake his neighbors and make his life difficult?
