A D R I A N A

•••••

I looked around sleepily, my neck hurt a little as I shifted uncomfortably in the large bed, that was until I felt something sticking to me. I stood up and touched my face noticing how they easily pressed against my numb fingers.

Urgh, it was popcorn.

Something poked me at the side I turned to see messy blonde hair in the popcorn bowl!

Avery!

I laughed out loud and she jumped up with a start. I laughed harder at the caramel sticky substance on her face. "Wha- oh my God!" She exclaimed trying to clean her sticky face fruitlessly.

I fell off the bed laughing- into the pizza boxes. I groaned with cold cheese smeared on my face. Ave crawled across the bed to look at me and burst out laughing.

Karma why?

"Girl, you do not look good," She said climbing out of bed and I rolled my eyes at her popcorn face and hair.

"Girl, have you seen yourself?" I said trying to match her tone while struggling with the pizza boxes.

She shook her head while stacking up the two bowls and finally, we both headed out of the room. Getting downstairs, we saw the whole hierarchy gathered together in the living room.

Oh, fuck!

Damn, what a Luna I am right now!

The Alpha cocked an eyebrow at our faces and we quickly dropped the things on the kitchen counter bolting upstairs while giggling.

That was fun! I had never done that before. "Did you see your dad's face?" I said clutching my stomach. She wheezed in response.

"His facial expressions are pure gold! I didn't even know he was back. Well, I'm going to take a quick shower to get this off and we will go for a run and check out the lake." She finally said going out of the room and shutting the door behind her.

I plopped down on the bed wondering how I was going to tell Avery about my inability to shift or to do anything. My heart skipped when I thought of the lake, he didn't come again last night. Had he finally left me alone?

For some reason, that saddened me.

I smiled as I thought of the funny episode that just played out in front of me. Sometimes, it was nice being all fun.

Like Justin.

I took a quick shower and dressed up before Avery came in with her AirPods plugged in. "Are you done?" She said and I nodded turning to the door before she held my hand. I turned to look at her confused.

"Well, we can not go through the front door, Ari. My dad is having a meeting."

I looked at her confused, "Then how do we leave this house?" She pointed at the window. "I can't."

She laughed and looked at me confused, "What do you mean you can't make it babe? We shift. Our wolves can."

I smiled sadly at her, "I can't cause I haven't shifted yet." She sucked in a deep breath.

"Right, but that doesn't mean you should be sad. Maybe your wolf is a late bloomer. I mean, she could be the strongest. They usually are." She said with her words comforting but I just nodded again.

She sighed and started removing her clothes starting from her AirPods. "What are you doing?" I said to the topless girl in front of me.

She looked at me with an obvious look on her face, "I'm going to shift."

"And how would that help me?" I asked back confused which she smirked at.

"You'll see, now turn around. I'm shy." She said with a blush on her face. I rolled my eyes and turned around. The sound of cracking bones filled the room and I winced. My dad always told me that my first shift would be excruciatingly painful.

I heard a low growl and opened my eyes, turning around. Seeing her wolf in front of me was different than before. I noticed the white streaks on her brown fur. She looked beautiful. Her wolf noticed my awe and her ears perked up as she wagged her tail.

"That's a good girl!" I said scratching the back of my ear wishing she could bark but she purred instead.

I wish I had a dog.

She brought out her tongue and bumped my side showing me her back. My eyes opened in realization, she wanted me to ride her? Hell, I could not even ride a horse.

I took deep breaths already terrified and grabbed her clothes from the floor. Climbing here was stressful, I could feel the warmness through her soft fur. I lay my head down and held her fur with strength.

"I'm ready," I said unsurely.

Something told me I was going to hurl out pizza and popcorn.

In a flash, she flew out of the window and dashed into the forest. The air whipped against my face making me both excited and scared. My heart jumped in my mouth. Excuse me, I was screaming. To make it worse she started jumping branches and twigs.

Honestly, at that moment, I realized I was terrible at wolf riding. I held onto her fur like I was hanging on the last thread of my life as she ran through the woods enjoying this. I was pretty sure all the animals in these woods knew that a girl was riding a wolf. Awfully.

I screamed through every tree and turn we made. I thought I would have time to stare at pretty trees. I was so wrong.

Seeing the lake ahead, I started reducing my screams. We finally stopped at the lake and dropped me down with an OOF. I watched the brown wolf walk up to her clothes and she took them in her mouth. She walked slowly into the woods.

What was that? It was fun! I was going to that again. My mouth opened in awe when I saw the beautiful sight in front of me. The waters were blue which was weird for a lake. I walked towards it and stared at the water. My brain grabbed the surroundings quickly as I remembered the lake in my dreams.

This was the place, he brought me here. I felt so drawn to the waters like I had felt drawn to his red eyes.

"Incoming!" The water splashed on me, distracting me from my thoughts. I frowned at Avery as she resurfaced. "So?" She asked and I nodded.

I was right. He wasn't just here but this was the place he brought me to. Where he told me I was his again. I shook my head in anger. He was a monster.

"Adriana! Snap out of your thoughts and join me!" She screamed from the water and I shook my head with a smile.

"Come on! Don't be a party pooper!" She sprinkled some water on me and I laughed. I came here to have fun too right?

With that, I removed my pendant and dropped it into my hoodie pockets. Also removing clothes and dropping them safely on the sand. So with my pant and bra, I jumped in.

Unaware of my surroundings.

Toby looked around the house one more time before Zayn would woke up. He had to make sure of certain things first.

The little brother's feelings started to surface in him again and he smiled reminding himself that the monster, the supernatural world feared and hated was the same little brother he knew who just hated peanut butter and loved hide and seek.

He laughed and looked around the house again. Blood bags were enough in the fridge.

Check.

His new gift was on the table.

Double-check.

Feeling less concerned, he settled down on the couch and sighed aloud. He knew his brother wasn't weak.

At all.

He had caught him off guard but he was mostly glad that he stopped him from whatever he was planning to do last night. He looked so lost at the lake.

He just didn't want his little brother hurt. He sighed. He had missed him. They were not the type to show feelings.

When he saw him and he thought it was a shapeshifter who chose his dead brother's face as a cover. He had planned to kill it and tear out its flesh. Limb by limb.

"Hey."

He snapped his head so fast that Zayn thought it would break. "Morning. How was your night?" Toby asked rather quickly.

Zayn looked at him suspiciously, "So, I've been thinking, how did you get this place?"

Toby smiled at his brother's usual curiosity. "You like it? I built it."

Zayn looked at him surprised. "You, the lazy one, built this place?"

Toby frowned at him and nodded. "I'll take that as a compliment, I—"

"It's not." Zayn cut him off with a deadpanned look which Toby mirrored immediately.

"—anyway, blood bags are in the fridge and your gift is on the table. You need to start working out." Toby completed and Zayn's attention was gotten from the word, "gift."

He walked to the table and popped open the red ribbon, bringing out a phone pack. "What is this?" Zayn asked disappointed. He was expecting to see a witch poison.

"Why is your face like that? Like you were expecting to see a witch poison?" Toby asked sarcastically and Zayn grunted. "That's a phone. The humans call it an iPhone. See, I was here as the world was evolving but you were in the forest making best friends with monkeys."

Zayn opened the pack, ignoring his brother's comments and he smirked at the phone. "This looks like the phone of the girl that I fucked yesterday."

"Already fucking around?" Toby asked impressively and Zayn rolled his eyes. Girls were a usual topic in Zayn and Toby's discussions. Including their body count.

"Look who's talking. You were the boss." His little brother laughed out but Toby didn't.

"I stopped when you died cause I found my mate," Toby answered his face getting darker.

Zayn looked around and back at his elder brother surprisingly, "Well, where is she?" He asked innocently not expecting a bad answer.

"Her body was taken by Avalon. She was taken before I could get to her. So possessed that she wanted to kill me. I had to let her go." His voice broke at the end making Zayn stagger back.

That which always caused them pain. He hated seeing his brother cry. "Why? Isn't she tired?"

Toby looked up at him with his eyes glitching from grey to red. "I've been planning her death." He bit out slowly. "But now you're here, you're going to help me."

Zayn's eyes switched to dark red already boiling in anger, "Of course." He said with his wolf talking behind him.

"We will end her but I will use the powers she cursed me with."
