100: Norman's Recovery

Gwen's webs wrapped all the bombs and flung them back at Green Goblin.

Green Goblin's face paled under the mask as his exoskeleton couldn't withstand so many explosions. "Spider-Woman! You ruin everything!"

He scolded as the Flight Device rapidly carried him skyward, away from the incoming bombs.

Mid-air, Gwen swung to the police station roof and called out, "Red Queen, what is he riding?"

"A Flight Device that interfaces with his exoskeleton for stabilization."

Below, the pumpkin bombs beeped faster before detonating in a fiery blast, raining debris.

George frowned - none had been smoke bombs. Without Spider-Man, the NYPD would have suffered unimaginably tonight.

"Thank you, Spider-Woman," he said with lingering fear.

Gwen quipped, "You're welcome, Director George. Say it a few more times and I'll gladly help out again."

George's face darkened. How he wished his station didn't face attacks needing Spider-Woman's aid so often.

In the explosion's aftermath, Green Goblin was flung through the air before regaining control. Despite the exoskeleton, the shockwaves made his head spin.

After shaking it off, he glowered at Gwen. "Spider-Woman, you disgust me!"

He decided to try the Flight Device's weapons, steering back toward the police station.

Gwen's spider sense triggered, detecting the impending threat. "Director George, get your men inside, hurry!"

George echoed the order. As the detectives retreated, Gwen aimed at Green Goblin.

"Web Bullets!" Two large globs shot forth, entangling Green Goblin in webs.

"Webs burn nicely!" Green Goblin sneered. A nozzle extended from the Flight Device, spewing flames that burned through the webs, though it delayed him long enough for the police to take cover.

"I'll turn you into a hornet's nest, Spider-Woman!" Twin jets of fire erupted as bullets sprayed wildly.

Gwen frantically dodged the barrage. "He's got so many tricks!"

"His ammo is limited, evade then counterattack!" Red Queen advised.

Gwen thought, "I'll yank him off there and beat him down!"

Nearby, Tony received an update from JARVIS about the attack as he flew toward Andrew. "Spider-Woman's engaged, let's see."

The scene at the NYPD appeared before Tony. "Ugly green thing!"

He told JARVIS to analyze the Flight Device. "Lady Spider needs my help this time."

Spider-Man had aided Tony twice now. Today Tony would finally repay the favor.

On the roof, Andrew watched Gwen being suppressed and frowned. Without the new battlesuit, she struggled against such enemies.

Seeing Tony flying over, Andrew mused, "Tony wants to assist too?"

Tony clearly intended to back up Gwen. Behind the pillar, she was pinned by Green Goblin's relentless fire.

"10 seconds left!" Gwen tensed, ready to pounce the moment Green Goblin exhausted his ammo.

Green Goblin taunted Spider-Man's powerlessness against him. As he withdrew two more bombs, Tony's voice sounded from behind.

"Don't throw that nasty stuff at my friend!" Before Green Goblin could react, Tony blasted him away.

Tony held position, palms still warm. "More power than before..."

Gwen's countdown ended and she rushed out, only for a pillar beside her to be smashed - Green Goblin, sent flying by Tony's blast.

"Hey, don't knock yourself back with the recoil!" Gwen joked, realizing Tony had intervened.

"Giving you a hand, Lady Spider," Tony greeted her.

"Thanks, Tommy Stryker...uh, Stryker," Gwen fumbled his name again.

Tony sighed, "I prefer my real name - Tony Stark!"

Gwen smiled awkwardly, "Got it this time. Tony Stark. Thanks!"

"You two chatting is pissing me off!" Green Goblin hurled a boulder at Tony, easily dodged thanks to JARVIS.

"This green guy hates interruptions, huh?" Tony aimed his palm cannon at Green Goblin as Gwen swung beside him. "Yeah, he's annoying."

Before she finished, Green Goblin fired twin missiles. Tony's shoulder modules rose, shooting them down and blasting the smoke where Green Goblin hid.

Nearby, Andrew relaxed, enjoying the spectacle - Iron Man versus Green Goblin, how interesting!

"I should handle this guy reasonably," Tony told Gwen, having grasped Green Goblin's methods. Time to really test out the new Mark armor.

Plus, he relished the competition against another tech-based foe, albeit one far less advanced than himself.

Tony expected Spider-Man would leave it to him like before, but instead, she stepped forth and blocked his path. "No, I told you - I'm going to beat him, so get out of the way!"

Tony was taken aback. "What did you just say?"

"I said I'm going to pound him myself - move it!"

"What?!" Tony was stunned. "Wait...you just clearly..."

Gwen cut him off, "I was waiting for my chance, I'd have beaten him if you didn't butt in!"

Recalling Obadiah, Tony conceded Spider-Woman shouldn't boast lightly. He lowered his palm cannons, "Okay, if you can't handle it later, I'll step in."

He glanced at the watching police. "Can you keep an eye on them for me?"

"No problem, I'll repay the favor." Tony headed over.

With Tony gone, Green Goblin cursed on his Flight Device, "Damn Tony Stark!"

He had no idea Stark would show up here too, posing as the city's guardian. He glared between Tony guarding the police and Spider-Man.

"Without Tony, you think you can beat me?" he challenged.

Gwen retorted, "You're out of ammo!" Before he could react, two webs shot from her wrists, adhering to the Flight Device's wings.

Green Goblin was shocked. "You weren't that fast before!"

Gwen smiled, "I was holding back - these are super speed webs, limited supply!" She yanked hard, pulling Green Goblin and the Flight Device towards her. Too late to correct, he was helpless as Gwen leapt up and kicked him right in the mask.

The force separated Green Goblin from the Flight Device completely. "Ooh, that's gotta hurt!" Tony winced sympathetically. Beside him, Anna nodded, still processing everything unfolding.

Gwen's web dragged the Flight Device to Tony's feet. He stopped it and JARVIS scanned its design. Tony frowned, "This tech seems familiar..." But he dismissed it - too amateurish for him to care about.

"JARVIS, destroy its core." At Tony's command, a wrist cannon blew a gaping hole in the Flight Device, disabling it.

Gwen gave a thumbs up. "Good job, Tony."

Tony rolled his eyes. "Don't compliment me like that again, please."

Seeing his precious device destroyed, Green Goblin was livid. "Spider-Woman, Iron Man, I wanted to play nice but you leave me no choice!" he shrieked. "Today I rip you apart!"

"Big talk," Tony scoffed. "Ms. Spider, his exoskeleton makes him strong, but you probably knew that already..." Remembering her dismantling Obadiah, Tony added "Or maybe not."

Gwen acknowledged, "You're right, ugly exoskeleton!"

Tony agreed, "At least we see eye to eye on aesthetics."

Gwen rebutted, "No Tony, your old suit was ugly too!"

Tony: ...

Ignoring them, Green Goblin charged at Gwen. Unafraid, she opened her palm to easily catch his punch, assisted by her spider-sense.

"Still a metal arm, huh?" Holding Green Goblin's fist, she glanced at the stunned villains and heroes.

"JARVIS, analyze Spider-Woman's power," Tony requested.

"Barehandedly catching a thrown car poses no issue, sir."

Tony took a deep breath. A 3-ton car thrown exerts ~7-8 tons of impact. Spider-Man's base strength likely exceeded that! Inhuman.

Against her, the exoskeleton was useless. Watching them fight, Tony felt a twinge of sympathy for Green Goblin.

"Impossible!" Green Goblin cried in disbelief.

Gwen remarked indifferently, "Not bad, you're one of the stronger ones I've met."

A crushing blow - his pride was in the gene enhancement serum and exoskeleton, believing their might could best even Captain America.

Now it all seemed laughable. The punch caught so easily, by a woman no less!

As Green Goblin grappled with these emotions, the suppressed Norman Osborn personality stirred.

Sensing this, Green Goblin cursed, "You bastard, why come out now!"

"Just a loss of power!"

"Useless bastard!"

To be continued...
