CHAPTER 1

[1902]

"Huh, I am getting bored father."

"Stop lazing around and pay attention, our country is in a dire state, from the threat of growing German powers.

It is at times like these that making connection with other houses and nobility is important."

"Yes, I understand father, but it doesn't makes it less boring"

"I don't care, Mr. Raymond Poincare is doing his best to make connection and form an alliance between Britain and Russia, I will be with the others, and your job is to make connection, gain a standing in our society.

Do I make myself clear."

"Yes father"

[Night time on same day]

[Liam POV]

I came back from the Ball, and straight up went to the bed, mentally exhausted.

I was never a avid follower, of the thing called politics, but for someone of my birth it is necessary to take part in these gatherings, everyone there wears a mask, every word is flimsy as a feather, your birth determines your status and not your work. A knight who has trained for all of his lifetime, has to be defeated in a duel against a child of nobility, who has never wielded a sword properly, to whom hunting means shooting a captured animal, and if he is not defeated he is punished.

Such is the thing called nobility and politics.

And thinking this, I laid on my bed, closed my eyes and went to sleep.

***

I opened my eyes and found my self standing over a lake, which I didn't recognize, and upon looking around I spotted a elderly looking man.

He was dressed in robes and held a staff in his hands, and had his back turned to me.

He turned towards me, smiled and … disappeared and reappears before me.

I scream in fright, losing my balance and trying to run away from this person.

Shakily I asked, "WH-O ARE YOU?!?!"

"I am Merlin. "

My mind stopped working for a moment, and then I realized that I was just having a bad dream.

"Yes, you are dreaming but fret not my child, I am not going to harm a hair on your body. "

And saying this he touched my forehead with his staff, … and I saw things which I couldn't make out of, at one moment I was in a dark space and the other I was gazing at orb, which was green and blue in color, and then… I woke up, breathing heavily, covered in sweat.

I started taking deep breaths to calm down and then,

"I apologize, I didn't mean to scare you" said a voice coming from an ethereal body of the sage looking man from my dream.

I got scared thinking that I was possessed by the ghost, which I didn't believe in unlike the blind believers of church.

The man said, " I'm no ghost, but a fragment of my past self and as I had previously stated, won't harm you."

"Then, what do you want with me." I said calming myself down, thinking I was still in a dream.

"This is not a dream, just like I said I am Merlin and I have come before you because you are first of my descendants who has affinity for magic.

And I would like you to stop asking questions and think calmly, and listen to what I have to say."

I listened to what he said, and started taking deep breaths, and digesting the information thrown towards me.

"Finally calmed down?

So listen here carefully, I will clear all of your doubts.

As I said, my name is Merlin, and you are my descendant.

After living my life, during old age I had many regrets, prominent among them was not being able to pass my knowledge to my son, who didn't had affinity for magic.

I wanted someone to carry on my legacy, but I couldn't trust anyone else other than my own blood.

So, I did a ritual, in which I took a part of my soul and linked it with my blood line, in the hopes when someone with affinity for magic would be born in passing generation, I will be guide that person through my soul remnant.

And my wait is finally over.

So, will you, Liam Sylvesterus, become my disciple and begin your journey in the arcane arts.

Are you willing to leave the confines of your stale life, and become someone greater, the greatest wizard ever appeared, better than me, and imprint your name in the history for generations to come."

Surrounding around us changed, we were flyin—standing in the air.

I thought about that offer, I was fairly convinced that I was not dreaming. If so, then I had the greatest opportunity in front of me, I liked the prospect of being a magician, a wizard, and leaving this wretched life behind.

"Yes... I am ready."
