fighting selene (chapter 33)

previously in chapter 32

"This fucking trash-eating, garbage-munching pathetic excuse for an animal," his profanities seemed to fall on deaf ears as not far away, in a dumpster, was a familiar raccoon, mockingly showing its teeth at Adam, deriding him for being happy about creating a spell, as if that were an achievement worth being over the moon about. "Fuck, I can't let an animal ruin my good mood," Adam sighed as he ignored the raccoon, returning to what he was doing.

After his vigorous jog and a hearty breakfast, Adam devoted hours to meditation in the serene park. The sun arched across the sky as he immersed himself in tranquility, followed by a dedicated reading session that stretched until dusk painted the horizon with hues of orange and pink.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

As darkness settled, Adam made his way back home, the dimly lit streets casting long shadows around him. "I can already tell I'm going to be pulled into an instant dungeon," he sighed, watching the occasional passerby. "I just hope it isn't something as colossal as Diablo," he mused, recalling the barrage of mana bombs he had to unleash on that armored behemoth. "Why can't it ever be something simple, like a goblin or a kobold? Why does it always have to be kaiju-sized?" His grumbling thoughts were cut short as a tingling sensation crawled up the back of his neck—a telltale sign of an impending instant dungeon.

"And there it is," he thought wryly, scanning his surroundings. "What is it this time? A big, ugly marman or a giant, six-eyed tentacle monster?" His musings were interrupted when a figure caught his attention.

The figure approaching him was nothing like what Adam had anticipated. She was one of the most beautiful women he had ever laid eyes upon—tall, standing at 5 feet 10 inches, with flowing black hair cascading down her back. Her skin was ashen pale, a stark contrast against her dark attire. She wore black leather pants and a matching long-sleeved shirt, the fabric clinging to her form with exposed shoulders hinting at hidden allure. Bright blue eyes sparkled with amusement as she regarded Adam with a knowing smile, exuding an aura of mystery and seduction.

Adam stared at the woman in shock, his eyes widening as she approached with an amused smile. Her demeanor was a curious mix of elegance and danger, an otherworldly presence that sent a shiver down Adam's spine. "Hmm, interesting," she mused, her voice smooth and melodious. "I was wondering who this mortal was whose mind I couldn't access. But it's always fulfilling to see their stunned reactions when they gaze upon my beauty," she continued, her words laced with pride and a hint of mischief.

"Wow, this is a surprise. Not what I was expecting at all," Adam replied, his smile masking the readiness to cast a spell at a moment's notice. The woman seemed momentarily taken aback by Adam's calm demeanor before her smile widened even more. "Oh, pray tell, what did you expect?" she inquired, her curiosity piqued. "Is it perhaps due to that strange smell I sensed from this mortal that invokes great hunger upon me? Is that why I grow curious about this mortal?" she pondered aloud, surprising even herself with her own curiosity.

"Well, I usually get giant, ugly tentacle monsters. It's nice to have a beautiful monster for a change," Adam chuckled, trying to keep the tension light and make himself feel better. The woman's expression shifted into a moment of contemplation. "Monster... perhaps I have been viewed as such for millennia," she murmured, her voice carrying an eerie undertone.

Suddenly, her normal human canines elongated into sharp fangs, and her demeanor shifted from curiosity to hunger. "But I grow hungry, mortal, and your life force seems particularly appetizing," she declared, launching herself at Adam with superhuman speed. Adam was prepared, activating his spiritual force just in time. while on the mysterious woman side, the hunger she felt for the mortal intensified as she stopped on her tracks, The feeling of intense hunger,  surprised her.

With quick thinking, Adam cast the float spell, propelling himself 16 feet into the air. From this vantage point, he conjured six spinning large arrows and launched them towards the vampire woman. "A vampire, not as surprising as the first one I've seen," he thought to himself as he watched the arrows fly.

To his surprise, the vampire woman flicked her wrist, causing the arrows to change trajectory mid-air. Adam's eyes widened in shock as the arrows veered off course. "This... feeling... I WANT IT!" the vampire woman suddenly yelled, her voice echoing with hunger as she clutched her stomach, though nothing seemed to affect her physically.

"Oh, fuck," Adam cursed under his breath, quickly assessing the situation. As the vampire woman turned her gaze towards him, her eyes now shining a menacing red, Adam knew he had to act fast. With a swift motion, he cast the mana snake spell, summoning a serpentine creature made of pure mana that slithered towards her with deadly intent.

However, just as the mana snake was about to strike, a shimmering force field materialized around the vampire woman, stopping the snake in its tracks. Adam watched in disbelief as the creature dissipated against the barrier. "Is she a vampire sorcerer or telekinetic? What the hell?" he muttered to himself, trying to formulate a plan.

His thoughts were interrupted as the vampire woman caused the asphalt road to upheave, forming two long spikes that aimed straight at Adam. "Of course, fucking tentacles," he muttered grimly, bracing himself for the onslaught.

Adam stared at the several stone tentacles created by the vampire woman, sighing at the unfolding chaos. With quick thinking, he conjured up four small, wing-like structures on his ankles using the float spell. The wings shimmered with mana as Adam maneuvered through the asphalt tentacles like a seasoned surfer, swiftly closing the distance between them.

However, just as he was about to reach her, the vampire woman stretched out her hand and unleashed a blast of concussive telekinetic energy. The force pushed Adam back with surprising strength, sending him tumbling across the road. Grunting as he picked himself up, Adam suddenly found his throat gripped by the vampire woman. She pinned him against the glass window of a jewelry store, her mouth agape as she sniffed at his neck.

"Gah, okay, now you're creeping me out," Adam exclaimed, feeling the woman's icy touch. Confusion flashed across her face as she muttered to herself, her expression a mix of frustration and bewilderment.

"What? Impossible! Why can't I suck your life force, mortal?" she yelled, her voice echoing with frustration before slamming adam against the glass wall, cracking it while also causing adam to accidently bitting his tongue, flooding his mouth. "WHY?" Her gaze bore into Adam's eyes, demanding an answer. Adam, undeterred, flashed a bloodied smile, his lips bruised from the encounter.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Another day, another chapter, and another day that Adam is not having a peaceful time. Well, anyways, I have fully embraced my Gege side, so HE SHALL SUFFER. On a serious note, what's with Selene and her feelings toward Adam's soul force? What is the mystery behind it? Who knows, but this volume is about to come to a close, and I have two things on my plate: Who is Tiamut, and how do I get Oliver to hook up with Shuri?

PS: I will add the last bit of the last chapter onto the next one. Not to prolong the chapter's words, but to make the story feel more connected and less like a chocolate egg that was cracked on Easter. I don't celebrate Easter, but damn do I love chocolate.
