Fate Terms

A/N: I'm gonna put every single term in Nasuverse and it's explanation here. Btw, I've got it from the fandom, so if it is somehow wrong or incorrect, please leave a comment and share your opinion or knowledge with us.

---------------

- Magical Energy

Magical Energy is a source of energy found naturally within Magi and the World, acting as the source to actualize the Mysteries of Magecraft. Referred to as the primordial animus and life itself, Magical Energy is the source that powers all forms of Magecraft. Analogous to gasoline, it is an essential element for the invocation of Spells. There have been many names for Magical Energy depending on the culture. Magical Energy is primarily classified by two types, Mana and Od:

• Mana is magical energy emitted by earth it self and can be absorbed by a person to use spells. The world's Mana vastly exceeds humanity's Od, Mana can be found almost anywhere and in great quantities.

• Od is from the concept of Odic force, is the Life Force energy found within living organisms such as humans, animals and Magical Beasts. Once depleted, the Magic Circuits that are stored in the human soul will begin to replenish it. Od is produced as long as one lives, but the amount a person can store varies from individual to individual.

- Magic Circuit

Magic Circuit are a pseudo-nervous system that spreads itself through the human body and what qualifies a person to be a Magus. The Magic Circuits have two basic functions; one is to convert Life Force into Magical Energy and another is to allow their owner to access Thaumaturgical Foundations.

The Magic Circuits are also paths that connect the material world to the astral plane. To perform Mysteries, a Magus sends a command and Magical Energy to a Thaumaturgical Foundation through his Magic Circuits and activates one of the Magic Formulae included in the Thaumaturgical Foundation as if someone switched a computer on and sends it commands to run a computer program.

Magic Circuits reside within the Magus' Soul, and what is found on the body is just a physical expression of them that stretches itself throughout the body in a fashion similar to the nervous system. They are composed of core components, which are the actual Magic Circuits so to say, and bypasses that connect those components to the brain. Magic Circuits do not change, and once damaged, they cannot be repaired.

- Magecraft

Magecraft is the artificial reenactment of Mystery, which is ordinarily possible only by inhuman beings. Magecraft is the ability to bring about what is possible through Science with supernatural means; although the process is considered a miracle, the result is not. The limits of Magecraft have changed with time, as science evolved and Magic from the past became possible through Science.

There exists no impossibility for modern Magecraft within the rules of the world and limits of human intellect; there are limitations, however, where it only appears that something is possible. Because Magecraft acts as the reenactment of preexisting phenomena, it is impossible to use it to create new Mysteries; even with an infinite amount of research, there exists a "wall" preventing human wisdom from doing so in the current era. The realm past this "wall" is known as Magic.

- Magic

Magic is the highest class of Mystery that surpasses Magecraft and all current sciences of that age. It represents the actualization of events that are impossible to reproduce in a certain era, whether by humans or the Planet, even if given an infinite amount of time and resources. The acquisition of the capacity to perform Magic is considered the ultimate accomplishment of a Magus, and only within the grasp of those who have accessed the Swirl of the Root.

"Magic" can be differentiated from "Magecraft" in that the consequences of its use are ostensibly "impossible" or "miraculous". A spell that creates fire, even a large blaze, is merely Magecraft, since lighting a match can yield the same effect. Concepts like Time Manipulation, teleportation, spatial warping and quarantine, and the Resurrection of the dead are miracles thought to be possible only through the application of Magic. The Denial of Nothingness, Operation of Parallel Worlds, and Time Travel can all perform Resurrections, but the Resurrection of the dead through conventional methods is something that not even Magic has granted since the days of old.

Those who practice Magic are known as Magicians. They have control over their own Mysteries, but also practice Magecraft. Magicians can be said to have become the adversaries of the planet, something which the human mind could not normally carry as a burden. Carrying such a power is the recklessness of changing the world. The uniqueness of the power and its transcendence can make up for the practitioner's lack of skills in Magecraft. Differences in power become irrelevant because skills with the likeliness of Magecraft can easily be "blown away" by Magic.

- Chaldea Security Organization

The Organization for the Preservation of Human Order, Finis Chaldea also called the Chaldea Security Organization is a secret agency founded with the purpose of preventing the "certain extinction" of the human race. It specializes in handling temporal anomalies and other existential threats to humanity. The hidden purpose of the organization is the enaction of the Human Order Revision Incident by CHALDEAS in following Marisbury Animusphere's Grand Order.

Chaldea is a laboratory-observatory that recruits talented scientists and magi for the purpose of observing both the magical and scientific aspects of the world. They have a single goal: "to preserve the reign of the Human Order, above all else." Chaldea may be a research and observation organization, but the internal management is more befitting of a military organization. Chaldea is being protected by CHALDEAS' magnetic field, further reinforced by a Bounded Field and and is powered by a reactor named Fire of Prometheus.

- LAPLACE

The Phenomenon Recording Cyber-Daemon "LAPLACE". The Cyber-Daemon LAPLACE is one of several safeguard measures set in place to preserve a Master's spiritual integrity and safety during Rayshift.

LAPLACE was Chaldea's third invention. It is a magical device used to monitor the past. Chaldea sees the future through CHALDEAS, at the same time, LAPLACE collects records of the past. Its function is collecting history outside of public knowledge, or events that were quietly buried away.

- CHALDEAS

The Simulated Global Environment Model "CHALDEAS". Utilizing the soul of the World as a foundation and basis, the system manifests in miniature a perfectly accurate replica of the planetary body of Earth, permitting a representation of the World's status both in past and future eras. However, detailed observation of specific time-space locales is impossible without the assistance of SHEBA. It is a body of high density Spiritrons and a territory of another dimension. It is the same as the sun and black hole. If it is touched directly by humans, they will be decomposed to the molecular level and disappear.

In order to make CHALDEAS spin, they need the output of a power plant that is able to supply an entire country for about half a year. Even with the combination of an oil platform Seraphix and a French nuclear reactor wasn't able to keep it running.

- SHEBA

The Near-Future Observation Lens "SHEBA". SHEBA is a mechanism designed to permit the detailed observation of information represented within CHALDEAS' planetary projection, similar in concept to an environmental observation satellite placed in Earth orbit. In lieu of a closed-circuit camera system, SHEBA also serves as an integral component to Chaldeas' security, outputting to monitors any occurrences within the research facility's environs in real-time.

It reads how much civilization has developed in any region, although the details of the future are still unknown. The system, however, is ultimately accurate only for the observation of the Common Era; for eras further in the past, accuracy rapidly declines, and Mana and electricity demands climb to unmanageable levels.

- FATE

The Guardian Heroic Spirit Summoning System "FATE". It allows for members of Chaldea who are considered "provisional Masters" to summon Heroic Spirits as Servants. A system patterned after the Heroic Spirit summoning ritual utilized in the Grail Wars of Fuyuki City, which enacts summoning per agreement of purpose between Master and Servant. Marisbury used this data as the basis for creating the summoning ritual.

The FATE system was stabilized with Mash's infusion as a Demi-Servant. It was only with the assistance of 'Shielder' that the foundation of the summoning system was functionally verified. The Cross-Shaped Shield held by Mash, was used as Catalyst for the establishment of a summoning circle. The shield was composed of the holy relic Round Table, but what lies at its foundation is the "place where heroes assemble".

On rare occasions, Servants summoned using the FATE system are able to retain most or even all memory of their previous summonings, including memories of past Holy Grail Wars.

- TRISMEGISTUS

The Spiritron Calculation Engine "TRISMEGISTUS". TRISMEGISTUS is a computer that serves as oversight in the implementation of Rayshift and it assists alongside LAPLACE in the real-time analysis of phenomenon observed via SHEBA. Its role is essentially to makes it possible to prove that the Master rayshifting "exists" Spiritron-wise regardless of the time period, and as a result interfere with the past.

Thanks to the fact that it is the latest model, it's possible to transfer and recalculate the soul to the real world, which exists outside of the cyber world. It is later revealed that TRISMEGISTUS is a copy version of Atlas' computer system known as TRI-HERMES. It has since been superceded by the more advanced Trismegistus II built by Sion Eltnam Sokaris.

- MNEMOSYNE

The Autonomic Observational Existence Verification System "MNEMOSYNE". It is a subsystem created by Chaldea, for use in independently and automatically ensuring confirmation of a Master's existence, in the event that Chaldea staff is prevented from observing a Rayshifting deployment by enemy action. By 2015 A.D., it was incomplete, so it was consequently deactivated for finalization at a later date and never incorporated in the Rayshift system.

- Simulator

Chaldea's simulator is an advanced virtual reality system, originally designed for Servants to perform live-fire combat training against other Servants or simulated enemies without putting themselves or Chaldea as a whole in real danger. While initial versions were simple and focused more on the aforementioned training exercises, increased demand from Servants who saw its untapped potential led to its being enhanced further in order to allow it to provide a variety of other services.

In its current state, the simulator can generate perfect duplicates of scenes from a variety of settings derived from both Proper Human History and splinter timelines such as the Lostbelts. Magical energy usage within the simulation is minimal, allowing Servants to live within a simulation indefinitely if they wish to do so.

- Shadow Border

The Imaginary Numbers Submersible Shadow Border is an armored vehicle built by Chaldea Security Organization. The Shadow Border is a twelve-wheeled armored vehicle capable of diving into Imaginary Number Space, which functions as a mobile base-of-operations for the Chaldea members.

Due to its intended purpose and the dangers it might face, the Shadow Border possesses considerable defensive capabilities. The vehicle's outer armor is fortified with modern technology and conceptual magecraft, such that normal weaponry shouldn't damage it. It also has both optical and conceptual camouflage to conceal itself. Its inner shell consists of multiple barriers stacked one on top of the other and it have been strengthen to equal even to barriers from the Age of Gods, nearing the capability of a fortress made from divine steel.

The interior of the Shadow Border is larger than the exterior dimensions through the application of spatial distortion, allowing twice as much room in the internal space than normally possible and making it a barely livable habitat. The Shadow Border doesn't possess external weapons, but it has an electromagnetic catapult on its deck to launch certain individuals, such as the Ortenaus-equipped Mash Kyrielight, into battle.

- Paper Moon

The Shadow Border is equipped with the Imaginary Numbers Observation Device Paper Moon, an Ultra-class Mystic Code given to Chaldea by Atlas, which is used to facilitate dives into imaginary number space and to monitor both imaginary and real space. It can be compared to the reflective surface of the moon, displaying everything that exists. It can display maps in the form of a rotating cylindrical projection similar to a drum roll, and can detect abnormal regions where the world's Texture is different, such as the Lostbelts. The device itself is of a size and weight capable of being handled by an individual. Paper Moon was created by Sion Eltnam Sokaris.

- Zero Sail

The Shadow Border's primary capability, Zero Sail: Imaginary Number Dive, is a form of travel devised in the early stages of Chaldea's formation but abandoned due to difficulty and inherent danger. Taking the opposite approach to rayshifting, where a subject is broken down into Spiritrons and projected to a specific space-time belt, this method involves slipping between the gaps of the world and vanishing from reality, submerging the vessel into Imaginary Number Space, alternatively referred to as Minus Reality, the Seas of Time or the Sea of Imaginary Numbers.

- Rayshift: Spiritron Transference

Rayshift-based time travel technology permits the projection of the spirit of a living human into the past. Da Vinci explains that the capacity of a Rayshift subject to safety return to their era of origin requires that the integrity of their soul is maintained within a certain variance of their original spiritual structure via consistent confirmation by a quantum observer. Said observer also prevents the local Counter Force of a past era from relegating the Rayshift subject to a phantasmal existence, and thereby excluding them from the Human Domain.

- Coffin: Spiritron Chassis

Coffins, also called Klein Coffins, are machines that Chaldea's Masters use for Rayshifting. While it is possible to Rayshift without a coffin, they increase the chance of success and have breakers so if the shift success rate drops below 95%, it cuts the power. The machine provides accurate vitals check on the occupant and has a cryogenic freezer built in.
