I hate the future

December 1916,

"Sir, we have a report on the new SX-model's engine."

Howard's assistant came towards him while he was working on a new motorbike. He let go of the screws and grabbed the report as he casually read through it. "Do you think this can beat the new model from Bristol Company?"

"In theory, it should." The assistant replied, "For now, we are head to head with their company but we still outrank them by a large number due to our solid built and large fuel capacity but their new model certainly beat us on speed."

"How long will it take to complete the whole thing?"

"According to the engineer's estimate, it should take at least a year to build. But they are certain that this design would be twice as fast than the Bristol Fighter."

"Good enough for me." Howard said handing back the report, "According to my speculations the war should last at least two more years. So as long as we can produce the plane when the war is at its peak we can gain the upper hand."

"If you can convince the Allies, we will certainly have a major deal in our hand sir." The assistant admired his young boss, noticing Victor and James come in he greeted them and left the garage under Howard's signal.

"You done working on that thing?"

"Yup, it's completed," Howard said showing his two brothers the motorbike he had been working on for a while now. "I upgraded everything here on this Harley model, so it's barely even recognizable anymore. It's much safer, the engine is smoother and faster than anything you have ever seen before. And this design makes up for a smoother ride."

"Won't they sue you?" James asked appreciating the bike.

"What's to worry about, it's not like I am going to sell it now." Howard said, "It's going to be our new company in a couple of years."

"You want to manufacture bikes now?"

"Of course." Howard laughed, "We've been here for 5 years now and it's time people begin recognizing that we aren't aging. So this is the last thing I'll be working on in this state before we move to another."

"So are we selling all the old businesses?"

"Of course not. My capitalistic greed isn't so fragile." Howard explained, "We will change the company's name and I'll hire a CEO to look over the company. Make it seem like we sold the company and are living well somewhere else. Anyway what brings you two here, it's not like you two to come here and look for me because you miss me or something."

"I'll say it straight." Victor said, "I and Jimmy are going to join the war."

"Why?"

"The whole business thing, though it's luxurious and nice it's not our thing brother." Victor said, "The fame, money, woman, though it's fulfilling it still makes me still feel empty."

"You talking about that 'animal instinct' again?"

"Yes." Victor nodded, "I have a thrill for wars and this war is way bigger than the Civil war, the weapons, the strategies, all these countries fighting against one another, now that's the thrill I seek. So we decided to enlist and we wanted to ask if you want to join us."

"War? No thanks." Howard shook his head, "Though I am bored, I still don't think that fighting normal humans is going to satisfy my itch. No matter how advanced things are, it's always going to be the same. They shoot at us, we recover, they get scared and we kill them. The same cycle, again and again, it's honestly even boring than just rotting here."

"I told you he'll say that." James laughed.

"You two can go but be sure to show your faces after the war or else I'll have to hunt you both down," Howard said adjusting the height of the seat on the bike and screwing it in place, "Also you know the rules-"

"Yeah, yeah! Don't leave anyone who has seen our powers alive. Don't let anyone get a sample of our blood, use our claws as little as possible, and don't let our instincts get control over us." Victor repeated the rules rolling his eyes, "You get off on making rules, don't you?"

"It's best to be careful after all, what we have is something everyone desires, 'Immortality and strength.'" Howard said shaking his head, "Also good news, my spies have found someone with abilities in London."

"Wait what?" Victor and James looked surprised, though Howard had always told them that they weren't the only monsters around it was still hard to believe, after all, they had never seen one before.

"Yeah, the guy disappeared before my spies could get hang of him, so I am guessing he is either extremely fast, can turn invisible, or can fly."

"London? Do you want us to check it out?"

"Leave it to the spies for now." Howard said climbing on the bike as he tried to start the engine, "Once I determine his powers and where his base is, I'll go there myself."

"I am guessing more experiments on their blood?" James asked as Howard nodded,

"It's better if I figure our mutant-gene before others do, so we can find a weapon before they create a defense against us." Howard said seriously, "Let's say in the future someone builds a device to block our powers, then what? Not ever our healing factor can save our asses and we're good as dead."

"I hate the future already," Victor growled, "We're leaving the day after tomorrow, so do make sure to get out of your lab and at least bid us goodbyes."

"After seeing your faces for more than 80 years I am sure I have seen enough to not miss you for another decade or two." Howard kicked started the bike finally as the engine roared when he twisted the accelerator, letting go of the clutch the bike began rolling, "So long boys!"

The bike roared out of the garage leaving both the brothers in shock.

"I've got to get myself one of those after the war," James said in wonder watching the bike till it disappeared.

"Hey, Jimmy do you really think there's more of our kind?"

"Of course." James said with blind faith in Howard, "Obviously there are, otherwise, he wouldn't be so insistent in testing all these things. Don't you believe him?"

"I do believe him but it makes me wonder. If there are more of our kind then we obviously are better than humans. As Howard calls it, we're the evolution." Victor said, "And from what I know about humans so far, they don't like it when someone is better than them, even their own species so what's stopping them from raging war on our kind if they find out about us."

"That's why Howard is working hard, isn't he?" James sighed, "The guy has been researching and studying non-stop ever since we got inside this country. So I believe that he will find a way for our species to live."

"I hope so too."
