Takeoff

Once the Malfoy's left, Hagrid also parted ways with the group once again. Once everyone bought their school books they left the store and headed for the Leaky Cauldron. The Weasley's and Harry left using the Floo Connection inside the Pub. This time Harry said his target loud and clear, although you could see that he wasn't a fan of this kind of Wizarding travel. In the end, he successfully returned to the Burrow together with the Weasley's.

"I should also take my leave, I still have a bit to walk home. It was nice to see you again Mrs. and Mr. Granger. See you on the train, Hermione." Said Matthew as he wanted to leave the Wizarding Pub to travel home.

"It was nice to meet you too, Matthew. And Please call me Dan." Said Hermione's Father, "Maybe we can drop you off? Where do you live?"

"My family home is in Bloomsbury. You don't need to take me with you. It's just a half an hour's walk. I have no problem with that." Explained Matthew.

"It's no problem, dear. We have to drive through Bloomsbury either way. A five-minute detour to drop you off is no problem for us. And call me Emma!" replied Hermione's Mother with determination while her Husband and Daughter just chuckled.

"Are you sure? I really have no problem with walking." Said Matthew politely.

"Don't worry Matthew. We live in Hampstead. Bloomsbury is on our way either way. You can answer me some questions about my summer Homework on the way." Said Hermione as she grabbed his arms and dragged him off, while her Parents followed the two of them to their car.

On the drive, Matthew chatted with Hermione about her Holidays, Homework and answered some of her Parent' questions. After a while, they arrived in front of Matthew's House.

"Thank you again for dropping me off." Thanked Matthew the Granger's again as he left the car.

"No Problem, dear. You always look after Hermione in that School that is the least we could do. We really should invite your Parents for Dinner next Holiday." Said Emma with a smile.

"Well, every decent person would help the younger students if they can. I will tell my parents that. They probably would love that. Goodbye together. See you on the train, Hermione." Replied Matthew as he closed the door and watched the Granger's drive off before he entered his family's home.

~ Scene Break ~

Next Day, Mountain Range somewhere in the Scottish Highlands

Matthew once again traveled to the Wilderness close to Hogwarts to train without disruption. This time he used Apparition since he mastered the Art now and it was easier and Quicker than creating a Portkey.

There was two Spell he wanted to learn the last time that needed space to practice them. The first was apparition that he couldn't train in his family's garden because of the loud bang an amateur caused, it would disturb his Neighbors and cause unwanted attention.

The second one was a Spell or Magical Ability that he wanted to learn for a long time, Flying. He already studied the enchantments on Brooms as early as in his Second Year in order to develop this Spell. But he only managed to create enchantments for other objects, like his clothes, that would allow him to fly. But he stopped that since he didn't want to overly rely on artifacts for his personal abilities. Yes, using protective enchantments on his clothes was useful and was something he did, but he didn't rely on that. The Problem with Artifacts was, they could be easily tampered with and stop working especially during a battle. A hole in a cloak that he used to fly or a spell against enchantments and he would drop from the sky. Which was a death sentence during a battle.

So additional enchantments on his artifacts were fine as an additional layer of protection, but not as core ability like his main defense or mobility like flying. That's why he was happy that he finally gained a Spell that would allow him to conquer the Sky.

This Spell was sought for Centuries by Wizards and wasn't found even today by anyone besides Voldemort. Only Voldemort and Severus Snape used this Spell in the Books. Although in the movies the Members of the Order of the Phoenix did also fly, Matthew believed that was an inaccuracy of the Films to make it more flashy. In the books, there was no mention of it. And he didn't find a Spell like this in any Library be it Hogwarts, the Flamel's, or any other book he read.

Kennilworthy Whisp in the book Quidditch Through the Ages summarized it beautifully: No spell yet devised enables wizards to fly unaided in human form... Levitation is commonplace, but our ancestors were not content with hovering five feet from the ground. They wanted more. They wanted to fly like birds but without the inconvenience of growing feathers.

And how right he is. Matthew tried out to levitate himself once he learned the Spell in his first year. But hovering slowly over the ground was just lame and not comparable to flying. The unsupported flight was different from levitation, which only allowed objects to fly a few feet off the ground and did not work on humans. The unsupported flight was specifically designed for human use, giving one the ability to fly far up without the aid of an object. Luckily he absorbed Tom Riddle's Soul Piece and with it his Memories or it would still take a while to develop a flying Spell since it was actually a quite complex piece of magic involving very advanced Arithmancy equations. Without an actual base spell, it would have taken months to develop it himself.

Voldemort used as inspiration and base of his flying spell, the innate ability of Obscurus who gained it once they turned into their Obscurus form that looked like a black shadowy mass. One example would be Credence Barebone who in 1926 unleashed that ability in the middle of New York.

His first flying attempts ended horribly with him crashing into the ground. Good that he had enough Common Sense to prepare the ground of the small valley he was currently in with Softening Charms so he didn't hurt himself. If he ended up hurt, he would be able to fix any damage with his rudimentary understanding of healing magic.

Matthew continued practicing without a break and after a few hours of crashing into the ground, he made visible Progress. Surrounded by a mass of blackness only his face Visible Matthew slowly soared through the Sky. He still was quite slow but that was only a matter of control, he definitely would improve on this ability before School began. His Magic Consumption was also bearable, he is able to fly for an hour non-stop at the moment. With larger reserves and better Mastery, he would also improve on that aspect.

Matthew would spend most of his days before School began in that mountain range trying to master unsupported flight. And he reached an advanced level in that ability. It was another useful tool in his steadily growing Arsenal of Spells. Before School started he also developed some new Spells, amongst them was a Spell that allowed him to read Books in an area. With that, he wouldn't have trouble reading a whole Library in one day.

Another thing he completed, he reached the limit on his current magical energy reserves. He Consumed his Magical Energy Potion Weekly over the last few months and now reached the point where it didn't have any effect on him anymore. Soon he would break into the level of experienced Adult Wizards and Aurors, the Rank 3 Wizard. Once he had his magical maturation the Potion still should have a slight effect aiding him greatly in his growth rate. But one thing troubled him greatly. Nicholas Flamel even after over 600 years of life was only a peak Rank 5 Wizard, Magical energies reserves expanded constantly through growing older even if one didn't use magic but Flamel didn't breakthrough.

That meant Rank 5 may be the natural limit of a Wizard's magical reserves. And he found no magical Creature yet with larger reserves. So there was no point going down a Warlock path like Leylin in Warlock of the Magus World did. Maybe the Basilisk was a Creature on a higher level which Matthew didn't believe, it was at most Rank 6 which wasn't very useful. He would know it once he confronted the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets.
