The girl with hazel eyes

Tian glanced at the little one who clung to his hand, swinging it back and forth, "Aiko, this is the last time I am taking you out to buy ice cream. Aunt Sakura already gave you some after lunch."

Aiko jutted her lips out as she looked at her brother with a sad expression, "But Tina, mama always gives me small portions of ice cream.", she whined prompting Tian to roll his eyes at the mispronunciation of his name yet again.

"She gives you small portions of ice cream because you eat it twice a day along with other sweet things. At this rate, your teeth would fall off even before you reach your twenties.", Tian chided, eyeing the gates of the community park as they entered to come across various stalls.

As they moved towards the stall selling ice cream, he heard Aiko, "Brother, won't it be pointless if I spoil my today by not eating my favorite things just because I am worrying about whether I will get it tomorrow or not."

Tian smiled, looking at Aiko as he realized that even though the context was a bit different, she had said something that even mature adults take years to realize.

He ruffled her hair affectionately, his eyes raising to meet the shopkeeper's as he asked for two strawberry ice creams.

Handing both cups of ice cream to Aiko, he took out his wallet and paid for it, both thanking the shopkeeper before they made their way toward a vacant bench.

Aiko handed one cup to Tian as both enjoyed their frozen dessert occasionally glancing at the little kids running around while singing a song in chorus.

"Hey sweet tooth, do you know which song they are singing?", Tian asked, his eyes trained on the kids.

Aiko looked up at her brother and then at the other kids her age before she shrugged, "Who knows, it sounds boring anyway."

Tian shook his head helplessly, "Just because you don't know something doesn't mean it's bad. Say that you don't know and move on-"

"Big Sister"

Tian paused, his eyes moving to look at the person who was running in their direction with a wide smile. Well, he wasn't particularly running in their direction.

Tian focused on his line of sight and realized he was looking toward the person sitting on the seat placed diagonally to them.

Tian's gaze shifted towards the person and then his gaze got stuck.

The girl was sitting on the bench alone, her dark brown hair slowly ruffling with the wind as she tried to tame them with her fingers, revealing her beautiful almond eyes.

She smiled at the boy who had run towards her, the boy seemingly two or three years younger than her.

The hazel color of her eyes was highlighted as the sun cast a soft glow on her face. She took the paper bag the boy was holding and took out two chocolates.

Her face was painted with mischief as she raised her hand forward to give him the sweets but retreated it once he reached out.

She laughed at his shocked expression, the sound as delicate and sweet as the tinkling of tiny bells, which lingered in his mind long after she had stopped.

The boy left her side as soon as she placed the paper bag on her side, her hands working to empty the contents of the bag.

One by one the bench was filled with different sorts of sweets, ranging from chocolates, two pieces of pastries, different packets of candies, and two bottles of milkshakes.

The girl seemed to nod her head in satisfaction, her lips stretching to form a content smile, as she took hold of one box of pastry and took a bite from it. Her eyes closed to savor the rich taste of the dessert.

"Brother"

Her eyes opened as she took her phone out to click a photo of the sweet spread on the bench.

"Brother", a rough nudge from his side woke him up from his stupor, his eyes instantly falling on the little munchkin sitting beside him.

"Why are looking at that pretty lady like a creep?", she inquired, her small doe eyes quietly scrutinizing him.

Tian smiled, instantly agreeing with her, "So pretty indeed.", he muttered before his smile dropped.

"What do you mean staring like a creep? I was merely looking, alright?", he defended himself as his eyes went back to the girl, who has reached out for the bottle of milkshake now.

"Besides, look at what she is eating, and then we will see who would look at her like a creep.", he spoke while rolling his eyes at Aiko who immediately looked at the girl along with him.

Aiko's eyes sparkled looking at the wide spread of her favorite treats before they widened dramatically, "Brother, won't the pretty lady's teeth fall off by tomorrow if she would eat so many sweets?", she inquired.

Tian chuckled, his mind already racing to imagine the hazel-eyed girl being toothless. "She'd still look pretty as usual.", he murmured, feeling his face turning hot.

Aiko looked at Tian and then back at the pretty lady and after a few seconds, she nodded with a teasing smile. 'He likes her', she concluded in her mind before her eyes fell on the moving insect sitting on her leg.

Her eyes widened as she screamed, swiftly getting up and ruffling her sundress so that the spider latching on her would fall off. Tian stood up immediately, "What is it? Aiko?"

Aiko let out a sigh of relief as soon as she saw the spider that had fallen on the grass, tears brimmed under her eyes due to panic and fear.

One thing she was truly afraid of was- insects. The sight of them near her instantly brought her to tears.

Aiko stumped her foot on the ground, feeling that she might have overreacted due to her silly fear. She turned around, wanting to back to her home, not caring about anything else at the moment.

Tian looked at her small figure, already guessing what she must be thinking, as he decided to talk to her about letting her fears out.

It was absolutely fine to have an extreme fear of something, no matter how silly or small it might seem.

He sighed, his falling on their empty cups as he picked them up to throw them away before following Aiko.

'Wait, cups?', he looked at the cups again before he chuckled helplessly, "This girl", he murmured, already guessing that she might have eaten it when his focus was diverted.

Speaking of focus, he turned back to look at the hazel-eyed girl as he stood by the door of the community park.

Seeing her talking to someone on the phone, her eyes wandering here and there aimlessly, he smiled before turning back to follow Aiko.

That was the first time he'd seen someone as beautiful as her. The girl with hazel eyes.

Cynthia saw Tian for the first time in his backyard, two weeks after this event.
