Reviews of Lord of Mysteries

Usually, when I write reviews, I will look at other reviews (positive and negative) in order to consolidate my thoughts. However, with this novel, I can't really find any reviews that have the same problems I have with this novel. First off, let me just say, this novel is pretty good. The pacing, characters, plot, and especially world building, are great. Just these facts alone put this novel far above the large majority of novels on this site. That said, this novel all suffers from a problem that makes it truly great, and it affects the novel quite a bit. I saw another review that describes this novel as a plain glass of water. It's refreshing and tasty for those who haven't had it for awhile, but it makes you want something more. Lets start off with the plot itself. The plot idea is great and unique. However the execution (while above average) was somewhat poor. In most stories, you can feel the rising action and climax. This novels rising action and climax feel almost blurred, and it's hard to tell exactly when they are. This novel gives a constant stream of information to the reader. (As expected of a mystery novel) However, it feels like they just throw more and more information, along with more important information, to represent the rising action. This causes the novel to lack a meaningful form of impact. For example, the ending was volume 1 was supposed to be relatively important in the main character's growth, and is supposed to be somewhat impactful. Due to the execution, it fell short and felt extremely lackluster. To put it in another way, it feels like the plot is constantly stagnating, as if theres supposed to be a "true" rising action, but it never comes. This point reflects on the entire novel in different ways. For example, the character development. This novel, doesn't have a whole lot of it. The main character certainly grows, in the sense of a tree growing taller, rather than a tree growing branches. More and more information is provided about these characters, and their own intricacies. However, once again, none of this is very impactful. Other novels have 1d characters due to the lack of information while only providing key details occasionally. This novel is the opposite. All these characters are unique, but they never truly have the chance to grow in a meaningful way. Like with the plot, this makes it seem like all the characters have yet to be fully fleshed out, and at chapter 1k+, I truly wonder if they ever will. Riding on the previous point, nothing is truly fleshed out. For example, this novel suffers from being relatively linear, especially in it's characters. There are almost zero neutral characters. They are all evil or good. This causes the novel to seem lacking. Referencing my point about plain water, it keeps you feeling like there should be something more. As for the plot armor? It's rather excessive. Due to the main character's personality, he constantly embroils himself in matters way out of his league, yet always survives them. He works terribly hard and gets rather minute gains. I don't mind the fact that the main character is good-natured and gets himself involved in evil plots, it's the fact that the main character constantly says he doesn't want to get involved. This in particular is what annoys me. This changes (somewhat, they kinda just gloss over this aspect in general) later on. Overall, it's a great novel that can be referenced to a plain glass of water. Tasty and refreshing, but leaving you wanting more. This novel definitely needs more impact, as well as fleshing out the story and characters in general.

OMG I so hope some companies like Amazon others can buy the copyright of this book and transfer it to a TV series or movie! They can actually create a brand universe like Marvel!

This is BY FAR the most amazing story that I have read. Forget Er Gen, forget Tolkien. Although they are writing masters in their own right, but to me, Cuttlefish takes the cake. This story was simply.. breathtaking, from the start to the ending (even tho I think the ending was a bit rushed but oh well) was amazing, the characters' personality, development.. MAN. This was one hell of a ride. ALSO, LET'S COMPLIMENT THE TRANSLATION TEAM. A WELL DESERVED TRANSLATION FOR AN AMAZING NOVEL. THEY WERE THE FUCKING BEST. The only thing that I'll complain about it is that thanks to Cuttlefish my bar for novels is way too fu king high now.

An amazing story that does all things right, i have always hated it when an mc just learns his power out of nowhere, in this story younyourself have to learn what your abilitys are, no stupid mc that immediatly becomes op or has a stupdily overpowered cheat or can't go a day without women(i hate harem stories) This mc starts of normal(has cheat but its not really for combat) and chooses to become extrodenairy of his own will, he knows the dangers and accept them instead of other mc tha become op in the first 5 chapters without knowing a single rhing. All in all great story and can't wait for more( sorry for the bad english, it's no my native language

I've read upto 40 chapter. This novel is great as the authors other work. Its MC who has transmigrated into different world and has to face the mysterious events surrouding him.

Best chinese webnovel I've read. In fact, it could even be the best webnovel I've read. Nothing much to say or add, the high ratings say for themselves. Definitely a must read for everyone. The first few chapters is a bit slow and might discourage you from continuing it but I strongly urge you to go through. You'll love it, of that I can say with certainty. It's a lot better for you new readers now that the novel is completed. Would definitely be a better reading experience with no waiting for chapters in between. Can't say I'm not jealous of you, new readers, that can still read this masterpiece and feel every moment for the first time. Ah what I must've done to still read this for the first time. Now I can only hope for Season 2, should I say, of LOTM. And oh, last but not least, Praise the Fool!!

Amazing story! Best one out there on Webnovel I believe. Not sure if Ive already written a review ... but anyw, the author really cares about details. The world building is developed and has a clear steampunk vibe to it. The plot contains several hints (foreshadowing) right from the beginning. The later reveal and connection between these hints make the end of the 1st volume (early c200s) unsurprisingly fascinating. The author’s writing is simply excellent. I dont want to spoil anything but trust me this should’ve gotten the first place on Power Ranking

This is one of the best and most interesting stories I have read in a while. This story had less fighting and much more interesting characters than other books. the mysterious nature of the world is so well done that you feel amazement just imagining it.

Why is it so hard to let others know if it's a harem or not!? I can't (won't) read this without knowing this information. Not one person in the comments or reviews would answer if this is a harem. Freaking jerks.

To the people who got a bit surprised by seemingly abrupt end, the author is planning to write a sequel in which the main character is not Klein Moretti and eventually a third novel where we go back to Klein Moretti and secrets of West Continent and more.

Damn after reading this book i can't read most of the other wn .this is so highly polished and and world feels so alive all characters have their own feelings and dreams they feel alive not just cardboard characters that are just there to fill up the story and villian also makes sense and are not just stepping stones for mc.and finally mc is not some chunni he is not stupid hotblooded or outright bat**** crazy he is neither japanese beta mc not Chinese arrogant genocidal Maniac .he is perfect for the story .this is a quality jem for a web novel .

I first started growing an interest in Lord of Mysteries when the main character, Klein Moretti, was touted as the most well received character of 2018 on the site's banner. "Well, that's new. Novels are usually known for their plots or themes, not for singular characters." I said. It was indeed a peculiar way to advertise a novel. However, I can indeed say that it worked! The novel has many themes, which would end up feeling jumbled together if it weren't for the author's long term planning, world building and an uncanny ability to build hype. That does come with some caveats, such as a slightly slow-moving main chain of events, but also allows to flesh out the surrounding of the protagonist and the world itself. Overrall, the novel is the the slow, romantic and tense exploration of a world filled with mysterious powers, charming characters and dangerous opportunities.

The author presents a somewhat vague background at first and eventually fills in the worldview as the protagonist learns more about his new world. He/She (sorry) illustrates this Steampunk and Victorian world with many details and signs without overwhelming you or having info dump chapters. Klein (small in German) Moretti displays a cautious attitude--at least most of the time. He does sometimes allow his curiosity and impulses to get the best of him, but he won't refuse suggestions or do things on a whim. He isn't your typical OP or cold and matured lead but he isn't an absolute trash person in the beginning either. You're able to watch him mature, as well as gain a better understanding of his place in the new world he's in. Moretti isn't the 'one and only' but still possess powers far from the ordinary. He seems to focus more on understanding his place in the world, learning all of its secrets, and (struggling) remain as the mysterious, omniscient, and aloof Mr.Fool rather than power leveling to the top. The steady development and humor make the book seem not to drag on as well as make Lord of the Mysteries a great read. I highly recommend it if you want a novel that doesn't pass by in a flash or make you skip chapters.

A great story indeed. Really high quality writing and translation is good too :) updating speed is stable and relatively fast. The story develops at the best pace possible i think - not too slow nor too fast, along with detailed world building and character designs (characters that actually have personalities and arent flat like your A4 paper). The way LoM is going is rather different from other novels here on WebNovel, in a positive way. I’m looking forward to new developments and how the tarot cards will play their roles in the new chapters - which to be honest I would pay ss stone to read if they come out even faster! :) Highly recommend!

Never had the chance to review something but this novel is something. I read the other novel author wrote but this is another genre altogether. Imagine being thrown somewhere without actually understanding the world and you just know there is something supernatural going on. I love magic, I love mysteries so this novel fits all of my demands. Why don’t you just try it until chapter 40. In webnovel chapter 40 can already decide the outcome will you read the story or not.

I really want a book of this! Please author! This is really a favourite novel of mine and always will be, and I want a book and read it all over again. It really feels different to read a masterpiece in a book! So please! And also can we have a merch? I want it badly! I heard it's available but in China only 😭
