Chapter 16

I tried to sleep but none came to me. I sighed reaching for the dresser and grabbing the sleeping pills in the conner taking one before laying down on the bed. I closed my eyes and waited for the medicine to take effect.

I woke up when I felt someone trying to get on the bed and I looked down seeing the kids trying to get into the bed. "Good morning," I said yawning as I reached for them. I placed them on the bed and cuddled them. They fell asleep again quickly and I covered them up before getting up. I got ready than changed into my work clothes again before going out to make breakfast.

Then I woke them up before and as we were eating breakfast mother returned home. She smiled and went to change as I cleaned up the kitchen, leaving her a plate of food. She walked out after taking a shower and asked, "What time did you get home yesterday?"

"I got home around 11, I needed to cover a friends shift also mom, I wanted to enroll the kids into a self defense class afterschool. I will pay for it so you don't have to worry and I will also take the twins there and back, can I?" I asked placing the dishes away. My mother nodded saying, "Sure, you should also take the classes."

"I will, I am going to take a different class though since the location I searched for only teaches children, thanks mom, I am heading to work now," I said before grabbing my work bag and walking towards the door. She watched as I walked out and today I didn't work such a long shift.

I started around 9 and got back home around 5 in the evening. I didn't see Marcus anywhere so I that meant there was nothing to do this week. I sighed walking inside and seeing mom sleeping on the couch. I noticed the kids in their room watching her phone. "Leo put the phone away, we will go out to the park," I said before heading towards my room.

I changed quickly putting on some joggers and a hoodie before walking to the kids room. They were still on the phone, and I sighed walking inside saying, "Leo, please put the phone away, Ava, Ace, come here." They walked over as I picked out an outfit for the two.

The weather was much colder now than before, so they needed the extra layers. After helping the twins change, I grabbed Leo's clothes which he put on himself and I smiled taking the twins out to put their shoes on. It was a little chilly as a swift bast of wind passed through us. I waited for Leo to put his shoes on before closing the doors and we walked down the hallway.

The park was far from where we lived so I had the kids ride the bus with me. I watched as they walked towards the playground. I followed behind them and as I glanced at the road I noticed a familiar face.

Marcus was inside his car, and he noticed me as well as he gestured over. I looked away and went towards the swing. I sat down and I noticed someone else sitting next to me, "Nyx, right?" He asked and I sighed as he continued to say, "Work's slowing down right, sweetheart?" I glanced at him saying, "Not really."

He got up looking at road where another car parked near his saying, "Oh, alright, gotta go now." I nodded getting up before walking towards the slide where the kids were.

He walked away getting into the other car, and I stayed at the park for about half an hour before taking the kids back home. I noticed mother was making dinner so I helped the kids change and gave them a bath before sending them to eat. Afterwards, I finished up all the work I had from school and said by to mother.
