Jack-of-all-trade, The Skill Borrower

Warning I lost most of my work for this, just the writing would have sucked but I also lost my huge amount of planning and its too much work to try and rebuild what I was writing, so I’ve stopped writing this and started a new novel. It’s very different from this one though, but if you’d still like to support me it’s called “For I will be the war Empress.” I am a student though so posting stories won’t really be on a fixed day but I’ll try my best. Anyways, thank you for reading this. The world is at its peak of technology, Many things that seemed unachievable were now at arms length. Yet even now, Money is still what really controls the world and the people. Those who have too much time began to spend time in a virtual reality game that is so vast and open, that there are still many places that haven't been open. This game was called The Lands of Oasis. L.O for short. Like many others, this man has a hard time with money, earning minimum wage from a local convenience store, which he hates, but he needs to pay rent after all, but he's not self absorbent, he was also working to pay off his dead father's debt, and mother's hospital fees. He was once a top player in RPG games but now, he has no choice to live by working until he spotted a great deal with the game he has always wanted to try, A boarding house for gamers, specifically for L.O players. The male managed to get a deal with only having to pay 30% the amount that was meant to be paid for half a year, room and gaming equipment and food included, he rushed to take the chance. Earning money however he could within the game, Even getting a legendary and one of a kind class. Without realizing it, his job slowly became something he truly loved, now slowly aiming for the title of number one player. Yet what if there was something else that was brought with his luck, while in a random party, a member suddenly acts weird before logging off. The next day, they were found killed. At first, the boy wasn’t going to mind it, but the moment he witnessed his own companion, he himself felt he had to find out what happened, both inside, and outside the game.

01 26 - Lucifer’s Blood

Lucifer's blood. Like the story that he was once a angel and fell causing him to be Lucifer. I looked at the potion even more concerned, Sasha basically confirmed it now, this thing was what killed the girl, and might be what may kill others.

"Is there a way to track back the code to whoever is spreading it around?"

Sang said while grabbing the potion himself and looking at it.

"I don't think this is the best spot to be talking about this."

I spoke as some people were beginning to look at us weirdly, Sasha and the other male agreeing and we decided to go out to the fields instead, to Sylans grounds. It was better to be attacked by beasts we could kill rather than having people eavesdrop.

The fact there was a murder is supposed to be kept a secret anyways since the case has been closed, but also the fact that considering it was confirmed to be a potion that's able to kill, that means the seller could be watching, like how that hooded person told me it wasn't for me.

"Wait, are we sure it's related to the death of SweetEater? What if this is a different case in general?"

Sang Yoo spoke once we were passed the southern gate, it would be bold of us to just assume. Props to this detective,, though they are always meant to question everything so they can understand it more. I just nodded as we continued walking on the somewhat waste lands.

"Actually, on that case, they asked me to check as well, she left a weapon in a inventory store."

I looked over at the other male beside me, he looked confused so I just leaned in quietly.

"It's when you have too much items, it's like buying a storage unit, and you can leave items there."

Now seemingly understanding what it meant now, Sasha was waiting for us to finish our little chat. We decided to sit down to the side on a rock to the side.

"Anyways, one of them left something, I guess she used it when she drank the potion. Basically what I'm getting here is that the code leaves some sort of "residue" on the players items or anything of sort, and some of the coding in this potion has some of the same codes that I saw on the weapon."

My head was beginning to hurt from this, I was getting confused and seems the other noticed it. She let out a large sigh.

"It's the same code okay? trust me."

I just nodded but the detective understood it with no problem.

"Now we're back to my very first question, is there a way to track it back to the creator?"

Sasha looked puzzled, she was trying to figure out what to say. She just stood there awkwardly. In game her mouth was moving, but we could hear her type away in the background before finally replying to the question.

"This game is so large it's hard to pinpoint the location it's made on."

She then handed the potion to me once again.

"What's even weird is the game considers it as a actual game item, it's not even considered a virus, that's why it acts as a potion."

I looked over at the detective, we're clearly both confused on what's happening right now.

"But then for it to be considered as a game item and not something hacked in would be that a developer included it in."

I spoke with a low mumbled before Sang suddenly moved closer.

"How can we even be sure that you're good enough to know this?"

Sasha suddenly turned towards us with a blank stare, but we knew in real life she was pissed. The detective took a gulp, now regretting his actions.

"This is your first time seeing me do my work, I'm someone that even international detectives ask me for help. Do. Not. Doubt. My. Skills."

We quickly nodded up and down quickly, not wanting to piss her off anymore, then we heard a small sigh.

"Back to what Mr. Lee said, what you said is true, unless there's someone as good as hacking, or maybe even better than me that managed to make it seem like a game item, or even someone hacking to the company of L.O itself, but for now I already got most of the info on the potion, just keep it safe."

I nodded, quickly putting it into my inventory.

"I think that's it for now, log off and go, I'll tell you guys if there's anything that I find."

It felt like a blocked wall now, but it surely opened our eyes more. There was something deep and serious happening within The Land of Oasis. For now, we can only trust Sasha to find out more on this.

The detective and I logged out of the game, and my view went from the rocky terrain to the slow opening of the Silver Mind's door. Once out, the girl was sitting at her desk again looking at me.

"As much as we know, it's dangerous, It's not an easy code either so there's a high chance that this is a group. Just be careful and hope that they're standing low for now."

I nodded, now it was time to go home. Yet before I walked away, I looked back at Sasha.

"You know, I'm pretty sure this case is closed and someone as amazing as you would help us, just two people, why are you helping?"

She looked at me before making a small shrug.

"I like to crack codes and mysteries. Yet what about you? You were just a passerby."

I stared at her before looking down, then turning around to follow Sang.

"I don't like the guilty feeling. So I feel I have to do this."

I spoke, before quickly turning again and bowing, it felt rude to just leave without doing that, then I ran after the other male who was now already in his car. I sat in the front seat with a small sigh. It was now midday, but I felt exhausted.

"Sorry for pulling you into this, but thank you, even though you don't have too you still help."

I let out a small chuckle.

"Don't worry about it, It just feels like I end up in these situations and if it helps, I'll tell you what happens."

He just simply nodded, I was beginning to get a little bit hungry, I just wanted to get home and eat something now.

It didn't take long for us to reach my shared house.

"we'll thank you for the ride."

I opened the door, then gave a small bow, and before I could close the door the other stopped me for a moment.

"Don't feel pressured to help, I think you could be in danger now since you talked about meeting that person that tried to stop you from keeping the potion, so just stay safe."

I nodded and gave another small bow with just my neck then closed the door and headed inside. The house was quiet, there was no one out of their room. I remembered I also wanted to clear the misunderstanding so before going to the kitchen, I went to her door and gave a light knock.

"Lisa?"

There was silence, then I opened the door slowly, then realized she was probably at work. I guess I'll tell her later then. I closed the door then went to the kitchen to eat, eating whatever was in the fridge then going upstairs right after to take a shower. The tiredness I felt was gone now, and I didn't really know what else I could do.

"I should probably go continue my quest, I still have some money from the selling that me and Less did, so while I wait for him to tell me to get something, I should continue the quest I have. So much is happening I almost forgot about it."

Giving my head another quick rub to dry it off as much as I can with the towel, I hopped into the Silver Mind and started the game I've become ever so addicted too. Seeing the familiar sight that I saw earlier. I had to go back to the city of Stella Urbs, it would be the easiest way to find the Magician's tower that I had to go to for the next segment of the quest.

Once back in AlanVan I found my way back to the teleporter, in pain once again when the magician asked for 5 gold coins, as someone who grew up being careful with money, I just couldn't help but feel a pain in my chest when I pay for something like this only for travels, but I have too, it's okay, life is easier this way.

I told that to myself until I eventually forgot it since now I was distracted by the people and the food of the city Stella Urbs. The city was focused more on seafood, there were sushi and even just plain octopus tentacle on a stick, which still looked delicious non the less.

After spending some money on food, I was left with only 3.5K now, I need to control myself when it comes to food.. Luckily it's in game so I'm not going to get fat any time soon, well at least hopefully. I took a deep breath, then a bite of my food looking around for where to start looking.

The easiest place that catched my eye, was the adventurer guild, they would probably have some info there.

"Alright, here we go!"

To be continued...
