The other spiders and getting out

After Appraising, I gently opened the cases of the spiders that have abilities and got myself bit by them. I didn't feel much pain this time, only a jolt when bit, and the spiders all died.

It was weird as if they live only to transfer powers eventually and then die.

Anyways I got a few useful abilities that I believe have good growth potential. They had only one ability each to give. I didn't integrate with them either because I didn't know if I would pass out.

The ones I got were: Camouflage, Venom Blast, Five Senses Boost, Pain immunity, Night Vision, Carapace(customizable), Stingers, and Adaptability.

I almost embarrassed myself by squealing in joy when I got these abilities, especially the Adaptability. I know for sure that this ability right here is going to be a great help to me, in training or even in fights.

Anyways, after a poor attempt at doing the mad hatter dance in celebration, I collected all the dead spiders and put them in a paper envelope, I found on one of the tables. I put the main spider in it as well, and after sealing it, I kept it in the inner pocket of my school Blazer.

I cleaned up the room to its previous look minus the now dead spiders and after I was satisfied, I used my program to restart the rotating case structure and switched off the lights, and retreated from the room. When I closed the door behind me, I removed my interference from the monitoring devices in the room. While I was doing this, two steps away from the door,

"What are you doing here Sir?"

My heart jumped!!! I turned my eyes away from my phone slowly like a broken robot, and what do you know, it was Gwen Stacy in a lab coat, looking super cool !!! Wait, it's no time to admire her...

I am dead.

How long was she here? I gotta ask. So I tried to calm myself and opened my mouth to ask,

"Uh-uhm-uh how long were you here for Gwen?"

"Gwen? How do you know my name? Oh you are that guy from the chemistry lab lesson, aren't you? How are you here? Isn't it a break"

"Uh-yes yes!! I am just-just here because I was interested more in the biology side of this tour, so I was impatient to come here. I was thinking if I could get a glimpse of the lab or meet a professor in advance"

Mid-sentence, I had successfully steadied myself and made a highly probable excuse and I could see a little bit of her suspicion reducing. I hope I came off as a person who just got startled at being suddenly talked to.

"Hmm ok then. Your group would be coming here after the break in a few minutes anyway so I guess it's alright. Now, you are already here and I was supposed to be your guide in the second half so you can ask me any questions that you might have", she said with a thinking pose that morphed into a challenging smirk. That smirk is hot...

Hmm, I guess she wanted to verify if I was really here for the reason I said, unfortunately for her, I have no problem making questions on the spot because I am at the top of this planet in terms of academic biology knowledge level.

Also, I know that she works with Dr. Connors on his study, which…I have also read. So, my best option would be to use it to divert her attention and convince her.

Having done all this thinking in a split second, I said, " umm, I was wondering why we were to tour this spider lab when it is stated that this project is suspended? Also, what is its aim? I was also curious about the limb regrowth project of Oscorp by Dr. Conners"

I also pressed the sequence on my program to insert footage of me coming from the break room naturally, showing that I had just reached the spider lab. After confirming that my tracks are covered, I took a breath of relief at my successful "Operation Spidey Powers Get!!"

Gwen had started explaining the origin of the project spider while she opened the lab doors using her card and arranging her folders. Honestly, I was getting bored with her telling stuff by dumbing it down, so I interjected a few times when she went below high school level. She was obviously surprised and instead of being offended, she started excitedly telling me more about the project. Then after giving the summary, she changed the topic to her own research.

After she was done, I thanked her and then offered my help in setting up the lab for the presentation. Haiz~ is this the side effect of having high intellect? Whatever she explained all seemed elementary and I am not being arrogant here. In fact, I had already theoretically found the solution to Dr. Conner's research. I could build the serum he wanted. It's just that I had not decided yet on whether to help him or not.

A few minutes later, the class started gathering outside, so I went outside to join them after opening the door. The group was surprised that was already there and a few boys and girls jeered at me from the back. They quietened down immediately at our teacher's stern gaze and when Gwen told them that I had arrived just a few minutes before and had helped her.

It was a relief that the situation was easily resolved. It helped that my and Gwen's expressions were serious and not fidgety. I didn't want to involve Gwen in the superhuman stuff. I wanted my idol to live as normal a life as she can live as a scientist and achieve her life goals, instead of dying early as she was fated to. Due to my ability of [Anti-trap], I think I was able to escape the fate of Spider-Man of this world, so I would like her fate to change too.

After the spider lab, the trip continued uneventfully except that Gwen asked me a few questions while presenting when no one was able to answer her questions which was a bit weird and I could hear a few people whispering "nerd" in the group in exasperation on not being able to answer with their monkey brains.

The tour ended and Gwen approached me to ask whether I would like to intern at Oscorp through her recommendation, to which I politely refused. She was a bit disappointed because apparently, she thought that I had great potential.

Potential? Great Potential? Hahahahaha

Anyways, I escaped her when we started to go back. I went on the bus and waited to reach home. I will probably stop going to school from tomorrow after I submit my form to take the advance exams. I closed my eyes and rested for the rest of the bus ride, trying to distract myself from the mild pain I was feeling all over my body.
