Chapter 139: Valley of War(2)

"Jay, follow me."

Jay's eyes widened in surprise as he looked at Luke.

"Go with you? To where? "

"Just follow me; I don't have time to explain."

Luke then turned around and started walking away. Jay was perplexed at first but decided to quietly follow him. They went outside the palace and noticed Erdene casually conversing with Liam and the others. Liam was the first to notice Luke and greet him.

"Good day, Brother Luke. Jay, good morning to you as well."

Jay smiled and waved to the others.

"Good morning to you as well, Liam."

Luke ignored Jay's greetings with the others and proceeded straight to Erdene. Erdene just stood there staring at him for a moment before asking him.

"What do you want?"

"Please take me to your forest."

Erdene then cocked his head and looked at Luke, confused.

"To my forest? Why? "

Luke said nothing and simply pointed his thumb at Jay, who was happily conversing with the others. Erdene took a few seconds to understand what he meant and eventually nodded.

"I see, so you finally found a way to get rid of the junk that is on my forest."

Erdene sighed as Luke nodded. The junk he's referring to is the monster corpses that remained after he and the others cleaned up the Forest of Death; the corpses have been laying around his forest ever since. He wanted to get rid of it because the area of his forest where all of the monster corpses were piled up was emitting a foul odor that he didn't like, but Luke stopped him and told him to just keep the corpses there so he couldn't do anything about it.

"Jay, come here."

Jay then turned his head towards Luke's calling and walked towards him. Liam, like Jay, notices this and walks over to Luke. Luke observes this and simply sighed before beginning to order Nash.

"Nash."

"I've got it."

Nash cast a teleportation spell in the ground, transporting them to the Forest of Death, which is now secretly the Mystical Forest.

Luke then took a look around. The forest appeared healthier than the last time, which stunned Luke for a moment, indicating that this is how the mystical forest truly appeared. It is truly mystical.

"Wow, so beautiful."

Jay was taken aback as he gazed up at the tall trees. Everything looks healthy and beautiful. With all of the healthy and vibrant plants surrounding them, they feel as if they are in another world.

Bang, bang, bang

Jay turned his head to the front and saw giant beings approaching them, which surprised him and caused him to take a step back, but he came to a halt when he saw the giants bowing down to them.

"Sir Erdene, young master Luke, welcome back."

Luke simply nodded toward them.

"It's good to see you again, Shawn."

Shawn hesitated for a moment before speaking.

"I can't believe you're still alive."

"Well, surprise, I suppose."

Luke simply sighed and scratched his head. Jay was taken aback by this.

'He... He's friends with the giants Just how many people does he know?! He's an expert on almost everything! As expected! '

Jay's admiration and respect for Luke grew as a result of this fact. The giants noticed this and looked at Jay strangely before returning their attention to Luke when he spoke. They then noticed Luke pointing his thumb at Jay.

"His name is Jay, and he's a necromancer. Now, lead us to the location of the monster corpses."

The giants exchanged stunned glances for a few moments. They couldn't believe what they were hearing; Luke had just brought a necromancer, a being that hadn't been seen in a thousand years. And Luke even introduced him as if it were nothing. The giants then looked at Luke with concern and confusion, and Erdene simply sighed.

"Just lead them towards the corpses."

The giants flinched and nodded in response to Erdene's command. They then stood up and extended their massive palms to Luke and the others, which confused Luke and caused him to look at them with a puzzled expression. Shawn responded to his questioning stare.

"We're offering you a ride on our shoulders; this way, we can move quicker."

"Does the location of the corpses really that far?

Shawn gave a nod.

"It's on the other side of the forest; walking will take a while."

Luke stepped on Shawn's palm and nodded as if he understood. Liam, Jay, and Erdene did the same to the giants who offered them their palms, and the giants carefully and gently placed them on their shoulders. The giants began to walk after placing them on their shoulders.

Luke simply stood on Shawn's shoulder, taking in the lush greenery around him. The forest has come a long way from its once-horrible appearance. People who enter the Forest of Death may believe they have entered a portal to another world once they see the current state of the Forest of Death. Luke might even come here for a picnic on a regular basis because it's so cool and welcoming.

After a while of walking, the giants arrived at the location where the monster corpses were piled up and came to a halt in front of it. Luke's jaw slightly dropped when he saw this.

'This is more than what I expected. What the hell, there are so many.'

Luke raised his eyes to the mountains of monster skeletons in front of him. The flesh on the monster corpses decayed long ago, leaving only white monster bones piled on top of one another. It appeared to be straight out of a horror movie scenario, with its terrifying and disgusting appearance.

"What in the world..."

When Luke turned his head towards his voice, he noticed Jay staring up at the heap of bones in awe. He appears to be so overwhelmed that he almost fell off the giant's shoulder; thankfully, the giant caught him in time, or he would have fallen to his death.

Luke simply sighed and placed his hands on his waist. He then returned his gaze to Jay and the pile of bones. If these bones managed to move, they would be a terrifying and destructive force; can he really trust these bones to someone as clumsy as Jay?

Nah, who is he kidding? Jay is the novel's Leader of the Undead, and he defeated Nash's corpse on his own, becoming one of the story's key players; what could possibly go wrong? And it would be a waste not to use these piles of bones, so he'll leave it to the master, Jay.

"Can you control these, Jay?"

Jay took a slow, stunned look at Luke. Luke simply sighed.

'Is it too much for him yet, as expected?'

Luke just scratched his brow and was about to tell Jay that he didn't need to do it anymore when he heard him speak.

"I'll take care of it. I can do it, it's easy."

"Huh? Easy? "

Luke and the others turned to look at Jay, who is standing calmly at the giant's shoulder. Jay then smiled at Luke's surprised expression.

"Controlling these bones may be difficult for regular necromancers, but I've been practicing on dead dogs' corpses and other stray animals since I was a child, so it's easy for me."

Jay then smiled calmly as he looked up at the top of the pile of bones. Luke just stared at him in astonishment and disbelief. Jay ignored his stares and continued speaking.

"Since necromancers are despised and killed on sight, no necromancers practice their powers anymore and instead hide in the dark, causing their powers to deteriorate. But I believe that someday, a necromancer will be required by the world and that I will be that necromancer, so I trained secretly in graveyards or haunted places where people are afraid to go to hone my skills. My efforts appear to have paid off, as a glorious hero like you, young Master Luke, needed me."

Luke just stared at Jay's proud face while looking at the pile of bones. So this is one of Jay's motivations for approaching Noah. It is to become a hero, to be known and needed by the rest of the world. This is quite brave of Jay, honestly. Necromancers are afraid of being killed, so they hide for the rest of their lives, but Jay trains in the hopes that he will be needed by the world someday. He wants to be known, to show the world that he, a necromancer, is needed and capable of saving lives too.

So Jay wasn't a complete lunatic; he had dreams and hopes that he gained on his own in the novel. He became the savior he desired in the novel. He became what he desired... But, in the end, he died.

Luke lowered his gaze and fell silent for a moment. Luke then frowned, questioning why everyone had to die at the end of the novel. Nobody made it out alive. Luke frowned and returned his gaze to Jay. Nobody has to die this time; they will achieve their goals, avoid disasters, and live. Nobody has to or should die.

"Well, it's time to prove to the people that you'll be the hero they'll need. But, of course, you had to give your all. Can you do it? "

Jay smiled and nodded enthusiastically.

"I've spent my entire life preparing for this; of course, I'll give it my all."

Luke smiled and nodded in approval. When Liam, Erdene, Nash, and the giants saw this, they smiled and shook their heads. They had been quietly listening to their conversation since earlier, and they understood what Luke was going for, so they all just smiled and looked at Luke, who was attempting to boost Jay up.

Luke didn't notice their stares and simply leaped towards the giant's shoulder that Jay was on and patted Jay's shoulder, causing Jay to flinch in surprise.

"Start working on these bones right away. I'll call you when you are needed."

Jay was silent for a moment before nodding.

"Got it, you can leave it to me."

"I'm glad to hear that."

Luke jumped off the giant's shoulder, and Liam followed close behind. Luke then raised his gaze to Erdene and Jay, who were peering down from the giant's shoulder.

"We'll get going and prepare now."

Erdene, Jay, and the other giants all nodded. Shawn then spoke to Luke.

"Please be safe and take care."

"Thanks."

Following that, Luke and Liam teleported away, leaving Jay behind with Erdene and the giants.
