Chapter 10: My name(1)

Jane's mind is currently in chaos while looking at this man named Spencer.

'I knew I heard that name somewhere... It turns out that this man is one of the male lead's allies. Archmage Spencer or should I call him, 'Glasses'.'

In the novel, the one who fought the most with the evil archmage Ash is the archmage, Spencer. It is a battle between archmages. The reason why I call him glasses is because he has a habit of putting his glasses on in battle. He always says that it is because his eyesight is bad but that is a lie, he could even see very well at night.

Also, Spencer is one of my most favorite characters in the novel. I like his blunt yet sharp personality and what really hooked me are his battles with the evil archmage.

His description in the novel fits the man who is currently standing Infront of Jane right now but there is one thing that didn't match...

'He doesn't have siblings in the novel.'

Then Jane suddenly remembered something, it is a scene from the novel which explains Spencer's hatred to all bandits that he met.

'Spencer, why are you always losing your top whenever a bandit appears in front of you?'

'Those bastards killed my family.'

Jane's eyes opened wide in the realization.

'Ah! So this must be the time where Spencer will lose his family... And I, a dumbass, changed it. Wow, who would've thought? And now they wanted to come with me. Well, they are pretty useful. They are a family of talented mages so it wouldn't hurt taking these kids in. '

Jane covered her face with both hands. Now that she saved them, she should take responsibility for them. She then held the back of her neck and looked up at the sky with a stressed expression.

"Fine, tell me your names."

She heard the children's excited voices. She looked down at them and they start to introduce themselves one by one. The first one was Lily.

"My name is Lily, I am good at magic and my nose is very sensitive to mana..."

'Oh? Sho she can detect mana through her nose?'

She then looked at the girl next to Lily.

"My name is Jessa, I am also good at magic and my hobby is reading books.''

'Oh, so she is knowledgeable then.'

"My name is Michael! I'm very good at magic and I love hunting!"

"M-my name is Josh, I am good at magic and my hearing is really good."

Jane looked at the twins with surprise.

"Oh? So you two must've worked together to hunt?"

Michael's face brightened and patted his twin Josh's shoulder.

"Yes! Whenever we are hunting, Josh would tell me the location of the animals and I hunt them!"

"Hmm, That's good teamwork."

Josh and Michael smiled brightly at me. I then looked at the two girls looking at me. I patted their heads.

"You two have very unique abilities too."

Lily and Jessa blushed and let Jane pat their heads. Jane then turned to see Spencer looking at her.

"And you must be the highest grade mage."

Spencer nodded his head.

"That is correct."

"All right then, my name is Jane. And, you can come out now and show yourself."

The children and Spencer looked confused at first as to who I am talking to but soon gasped in shock and looked on top of my head.

A furball with a face of a baby tiger looked at them while laying on top of my head. Jessa staggered and pointed at the black beast.

"That's... The legendary beast? My god, I thought I could only see them in books but now I'm seeing one with my own two eyes..."

"Amazing, I never knew that Miss Jane is accompanied by the legendary beast."

"W-whoa, he's cute."

"Waah! How adorable! I want to pinch its cheek!"

The black beast just blankly stared at the children and then moved his gaze to Spencer. Spencer flinched and bowed his head.

"It is great to meet you, legendary beast."

The black beast looked away from him and fixed his gaze on the children. Jane smiled at the black beast's action.

"Hey, Don't be shy and play with the kids if you want."

"Can I?"

"Of course you can, no one is stopping you."

The black beast jumped from Jane's head and walked towards the children. The children welcomed him and tried to play games with him. Jane smiled at the scene and look at the sky.

"It'll soon be nighttime, we should sleep here before moving tomorrow."

"Where are we going tomorrow?"

"Hmm, to save a woman love by god?"

"What?"

"What?"

Jane just ignored Spencer's dumb expression and took out tent pieces from her pocket. Once she got all the pieces out she was about to assemble them but Spencer snatched the piece from her.

"I'll handle it."

The children noticed their brother's actions and started to run towards me. They look like they are waiting for my orders. I sighed.

"Lily and Jessa go help Spencer set up the tent. Michael and Josh, you hunt some food in the forest. But don't wander for too long. You might get lost. And you, come with me. We're getting firewood."

The four children exclaimed. Only the black beast answered gloomily.

"Yes!"

"...Fine."

Michael and Josh started running towards the forest and I walked in the other direction. The black beast sat on my shoulder while looking at me. I ignored his stares and started to pick up some branches. I noticed that the black beast was still not moving so I speak to him.

"Hey Nash, it's going to be dark soon so you should help me pick some good branches. We don't want to get a cold at night."

The black beast's ears went up and his eyes looked at Jane with surprise. Jane just looked back at him and frowned.

"Nash what are you doing? Do you not want to help me?"

"W-what, who?"

"Who else is with me beside you?"

The black beast blinked a few times before stammering.

"N-Nash, that's me?"

"Yeah, Nash Clodwal... Why? You don't like it?"

"No...I like it."

"Really? That's good."

Jane continued to pick up branches and because of that, she didn't see the black beast, no, Nash's bright smile.

"Nash Clodwal, I am Nash Clodwal. I like it, thank you, Jane."

"Hmm? Is that my name I hear?"

Jane turns her head to Nash with a grin. Nash just frowned and turned his head away. His eyebrows then twitched when he heard Jane's happy voice.

"Why don't you say my name one more time? Hmm?"

"I don't want to."

"Huhu, how cute."

Jane smiled and patted Nash's head. He then bumped his head to Jane's palm and frowned but he still let Jane rub his head. Jane then put her hand back and proceeded to pick up branches from the ground.

Jane kept picking up branches but then stopped when the branches in her hand suddenly started to float. The other branches around her started to float too and gathered into one place in the air. Blue mana surrounded the branches to keep them afloat. Jane looked at the owner of the blue mana who is Nash. Nash looked at her with a smug expression and puffed his chest.

"Why do you keep doing hard stuff when I'm with you? You should've just asked me."

Jane looked at Nash with a blank expression.

'I did ask for your help though...'

Jane just sighed and started to walk back to the camp. The floating branches followed behind Jane and Nash, who is on her shoulder. By the time they went back, Jane saw the tent already assembled and the twin brothers happily laughing with a dead deer beside them. The children noticed Jane and immediately ran towards her.

"You're back! We finished setting up the tent!"

"We caught a deer!"

"We will have roasted meat!"

"Our brother Spencer is a really good cook!"

Jane patted each of their head and gave them praise.

"Good job,"

The kids smiled brightly and looked at the black beast on Jane's shoulder. Jane looked at Nash who is putting the branches down on one side and looked back at her.

"You can play with them."

Nash nodded and jumped down from her shoulder. Nash looked at the kids who are smiling at him.

"Legendary beast! Let's play tag!"

"Don't call me that, I have a name now."

"What? Really?"

"Yes, and it is a very cool name like me."

Nash then straightened his body and puffed up his chest with a proud expression.

"My name is Nash Clodwal!"

"Ooooohhh!"

The children let out a gasp of admiration and clapped while looking at Nash. Lily, Jessa, Josh, and Michael started to praise his name.

"Wow! That is a very cool name!"

"That name is very fitting."

"Thank goodness, I don't have to call you 'legendary beast' anymore... It's quite long."

"I know right! Anyway! That is a very awesome name! I wish my name was like that."

Nash received the praises with a proud smile. He then looked at Jane.

"I know it's cool, Jane is the one who named me!"

"Really? I'm jealous, I want her to name me too."

Jane looked at the children who are happily chatting in a distance. She looked at them while drinking water and looked at Spencer.

"Your siblings are energetic."

"Yes, they are always like that."

Jane looked at Spencer for a while then looked at the children playing in the distance. She then shot a question.

"How did you ended up being caught by the bandits when all of you are so good at magic?"

Spencer then frowned while recalling the memory.

"We are on our way to the capital and the kids and I thought that if we go through the forest, we would arrive faster. There are also a lot of herbs in the area so we thought that we should pick some in the way"

'So you took the forest road because you're all confident that nothing could harm you on the way?'

Even though Spencer didn't mention it, that is how Jane interpreted it. Spencer didn't know her thoughts and continued to speak

"While walking in the forest, the bandits attacked us from behind. I could burn them all in an instant if I could but they already took the kids as hostages. I only managed to save Lily and the bandits suddenly ganged up on me and managed to put the magic restraining collar on my neck."

Jane could see Spencer's cold eyes while holding his neck. Jane gulped and suddenly felt the chills on her back.

"If I could turn back time, I'll blow their heads on the spot."

'Vicious.'

"But thanks to your help, we managed to escape. You also healed Lily's shoulder. I can't thank you enough."

"It's fine, isn't that why you decided to come with me?"

"I guess that's true."

Jane and Spencer chatted for a while before starting the campfire and cooking the deer that Michael and Josh hunted. They sat around the campfire and each has deer meat on their hands.

"Hmm! This is delicious!"

"As expected of our brother!"

"He really is a good cook!"

"Miss Jane, please try this part of the deer. It is very delicious."

Jane took a bite from the meat that Lily offered and tasted it.

"Hmm, that is really good."

Lily smiled and suddenly started to fidget. Jane noticed her actions and asked.

"What's wrong?"

"Uh, miss Jane? Can I call you Uhm... Big sister.?"

Jane blinked a few times and then answered with a face that says she doesn't mind.

"Sure, you can call me whatever you like."

The other children heard her answer and then exclaimed.

"Then I'll call you Big sis!"

"Me too!"

"Me too!"

Jane just nodded at them. She really doesn't care what they call her so she just agreed.

"Sure, sure. Now eat and then sleep. We'll be heading out tomorrow morning"

"I heard from brother Nash that we will save a woman love by god!"

"Yeah! Brother Nash also said that we will beat up a bad guy!"

Jane looked at Nash who is quietly eating meat beside her. Nash looked back at her with a confused expression.

"What?"

"You're already brothers and sisters huh?"

"What's wrong with that?"

"Nothing, actually it is a good thing that you learn how to socialize."

Jane patted Nash's head and continued to eat. The children were happily eating the food while Spencer was wiping their cheeks that are smudged by meat oil. After that, they went inside the tent and sleep.
