Chapter 5 Vex The Ghost Yokai

Once Lilac left the room Felix sat by his potted birth tree and said "If every day is gonna be like this I don't think I'll survive till morning." Felix took the leaf off of his head and set it down inside the pot while saying "I can still feel that safeness from the tree, maybe I will wake up tomorrow." As Felix let go of the leaf he waited a few seconds and then asked "Why ain't I changing back into a fox?" Felix moved his hand away from the tree and then asked "Was I able to stay in this form the whole time without the leaf?" Felix sighed as he said, "If I'd have known this I wouldn't have come here for that leaf." Felix began to walk towards the bathroom as he said "Whatever, it's already done and over with, I might as well check this place out and see what that weirdly shaped thing was." As he took a few more steps he changed back into a fox and then glanced back towards the tree as he thought "Now I get it, it's a distance thing, I can't be more than a few feet from the tree if I wanna stay in the human form."

Felix scurried over to the bed as he laid down in his fox form and thought "I'll just go to bed then." While laying there he changed back into his human form and began to lay there. As he laid down on the bed he stared at the tree and slowly fell asleep. After laying there for a short while a girl with black eyes and black hair with a white triangle ornament on her forehead appeared and stood beside his bed next to his tree and smiled as she said "I've finally worked up the courage to come meet you." The girl stared at him and then crouched down on her knees and laid her hands on her lap while staring at him as she said "Now all I have to do is wake him up." As she reached for him her hand froze inches away from him and then she laid her hand back down on her own lap while saying "Maybe I should take another few minutes to prepare myself." The girl stared at him for another minute or so and then laid down beside him as she said "Maybe I can try laying beside him in order to get more comfortable around him."

As she laid beside him she stared at him and said "It's less worrying when he's asleep like this, but it's still scary to be near someone you don't know." The girl went to reach for his head as she said "This time for sure" with confidence. Just as her hand made contact she smiled and began to rub his head back and forth. After playing with his head for a short while Felix opened his eyes and seen her face just a few inches away from him. As he saw the way she was smiling he shot up screaming "What do you want from me?" As the girl sat up she had a bright red face while vanishing and saying "I came to meet you." Once she was gone Felix glanced around his room and said "You're still here, aren't you?" As he felt a hand on his shoulder he screamed and jumped towards his tree while grabbing one of the leaves and saying "Please make yourself visible, it's creepy when I can't see you."

Felix held the leaf while standing at the opposite side of the room from the bed. As she made herself visible Felix seen her bright red face and said "Your another yokai, right?" The girl nodded as she stared at him and awkwardly said "Y-yes, t-that's true." Felix walked closer towards her and poked her forehead while asking "Are you… actually here… or is my mind playing tricks on me?" As he poked her head her face turned a brighter shade of red and she began to disappear again while saying "I-I-I-I'm real, I'm just a-a ghost and I'm-" as she vanished Felix stood there for a moment and said, "So she's a ghost?" Felix set the leaf in his hair and began to walk around one spot as he said "I know you're still here, you don't have to hide, I'll try not to startle you again." As she appeared in front of him she stared at him with her bright red face and said "Okay." As Felix stared at her for a while her face turned even more red as she asked "Why are you staring at me like that?"

Felix stared at her and said "That triangle object on your head… it's similar to my tree isn't it?" the girl held the triangle ornament and said, "It's a very important object if that's what you mean." Felix nodded and said, "Yeah, it's like you'd be lost without it, right?" Felix glanced at the tree and thought for a moment as he mumbled "Although I'm not sure why this birth tree means so much to me." Felix stared at the leaves for a moment and then mumbled "Maybe it's because I get my shapeshifting abilities from its leaves." As Felix glanced back at her she was much closer now and her face wasn't as red as it was before. Felix stared at her for a moment as he asked "Do I have something on my face?" The girl shook her head as she said "No, it's just been a long time since I've seen a male yokai, your also a type of spirit right?" Felix thought for a moment and then said "I don't think that's the same type of spirit."

As the girl got closer to his face the door swung open as Silkie stood there in her spider form asking "Are you in any danger?" Felix and the girl both stared at her for a moment as the girl's face turned a completely different shade of bright red she quickly vanished. Felix stared at Silkie for a moment and then glanced beside himself to see that the ghost girl was gone. Felix glanced at Silkie who changed back to her human form as she said "Oh, Vex must've given you a scare, I did tell her not to drop in on you during the night, I guess she didn't listen." Felix laughed awkwardly as he nervously said "Y-yeah, Don't worry about it, she didn't bother me." Silkie closed the door behind herself as she left saying "Well then I'm sorry for disturbing you, I'll be going back to my room, come get me if you need anything." As Silkie left she stood near the door and smiled as she said "This is the first time Vex has ever warmed up to someone of the opposite sex."

Silkie glanced at the door as she said "She even managed to meet him face to face within a day, unlike when she met me and ended up taking a little over a month to even appear around me." Once Silkie was gone Felix said, "So her name is Vex?" Felix glanced at a corner of the room as he said "She's gone now, you don't have to hide." As Vex appeared Felix seen her facing a corner with her face still red. Felix began to walk towards her as he asked "Are you also scared of her?" Vex glanced at him and shook her head as she said "N-no, I'm not afraid of her." Felix sat down on the mattress as he said "Really? I think she's terrifying." Vex sat beside him as she said "Are you afraid of her because she can eat other yokai." Felix stared at her in shock and said "T-That's just a joke right?" Vex shook her head and said, "No, everyone in this apartment has done something to belong here."

Felix stared at her and said, "So my instincts weren't wrong?" Vex nodded as she said, "Yeah, she has eaten a few other yokai, she's only ever eaten yokai that don't have blood though." Felix stared at her nervously as asked "S-so she only eats their spirit?" As Vex nodded Felix nervously said "B-but I… I don't have blood." Vex stared at him for a moment and then said "Well she hasn't eaten me yet, and from the stories she's told me she's only ever eaten bad yokai." As the door swung open Felix shouted "Don't eat my spirit!" As he shouted this Silkie stood at the door carrying a blanket as she said "Don't eat you? Is Vex telling you about my past?" Vex stared at Silkie and nodded as she said "I was telling him that you defended some people by eating the bad yokai." Felix glanced at Vex as he shouted "You didn't tell me that, all you told me was that she ate other yokai!"

As Lilac walked through the door carrying a knife she shouted "Shut the hell up, I'm trying to sleep!" As Felix saw her he backed up against the wall and said "Sorry, I'll keep it down so please put the knife away!" Lilac glared at him and then glanced at Vex and then almost immediately calmed down as she said "I was wondering where you were, have you been hiding in his room?" As Vex blushed and disappeared Silkie set the blanket down and said "We're sorry for barging in again, we'll be gone for good this time, come on Vex, you too." As they left Felix collapsed onto the mattress and said "Silkie might be more dangerous than I thought, I better stay on her good side."
