Chapter 6 Felix’s Job

As morning came Felix opened his eyes and seen Vex laying there beside him just staring at him. Felix continued to lay there and stare as he watched her face turn red she vanished while nervously saying "I-I-I'm sorry!" Felix continued to lay there as he turned over and looked at the roof and said "So this wasn't a dream?" As Felix sat up he heard the mysterious voice once again say "I see you've had an eventful first night." Felix stared at the tree as he said "Yeah, it's definitely… different… from what I expected." The voice seemed pleased as it asked "And what do you have to say about this place?" Felix stared at the tree and said "Well… I think they're all terrifying, especially Silkie, did you know she has eaten other yokai!" The voice began to laugh as it said "Of course, I've been overseeing many of you other yokai." Felix stared at the tree for a moment and asked "Does this mean you put me here on purpose?"

The voice laughed as it said, "Of course, I put you there for my own entertainment, and so far it has been quite… entertaining." Felix glared at the tree as he said "It's not very fun for me, one of the other people here might try to eat me at any minute you know." The voice began to laugh as she said "I won't allow her to do such a thing to my plaything." As she said this Felix lifted the pot and shouted "I am not your plaything!" After shouting this Felix heard some footsteps rushing towards his room and then seen Lilac burst in with a knife while shouting "Keep it down, some of us are trying to enjoy our day." Felix stared at her while holding the pot and then quickly said "I'm sorry! I'll be quieter!" Lilac stared at him holding the pot as she asked "Were you… shouting at that plant?" Felix held the pot towards her and said "The voice, it was just talking, didn't you hear it?" Lilac stared at the pot in a disgusted manner and then left while saying "I didn't know you weren't completely there in the head." As she left Felix begged her saying "No wait… you've gotta believe me!"

Once she was gone the voice began to laugh as it said "This is very entertaining, but you should know that they can't hear me unless I want them to." Felix glared at the tree as he said "I think I liked this plant a lot better when it didn't talk." After he said this the voice went silent for a moment and as he went to ask if the voice was okay is quickly said "Now then, I suppose I should tell you why I'm contacting you instead of just watching." Felix set the plant down beside his bed as he said "You actually have a reason for talking to me?" The voice seemed happy I'd it cheekily said "I recently put you down as a yokai who will eliminate or deal with other yokai so you'd be able to live there as your punishment, so I'll be contacting you like this whenever other yokai who are causing issues appear." Felix stared at the plant for a moment and then asked "Then does that mean a yokai is nearby and you want me to do something about it?" The voice cheekily said, "You catch on fast, well then, make it fast."

Felix pointed at the plant as he asked "Then what if I don't do it?" The voice seemed happy as it said "Then if the yokai dies, it'll be your fault since you could've tried to sway it to live a peaceful life." Felix sighed as he said, "So I have to go or I'll have to live while knowing that people are dying because I did nothing… that has to be the most screwed up way to force someone into doing something you can think of." The voice began to laugh as it said "Hardly, I can do many more things then tell you this if I wanted you to do something." Felix stared at the roof of the apartment and asked "Then what happens if I succeed in swaying the yokai to stop causing trouble." The voice cheekily said, "So you've already ignored the possibility of you having to kill the yokai?" Felix stared at the plant as he said "I'll try to avoid as much as possible." The voice laughed as it said "Avoid it you say? You can't fool me, you just don't have it in you to take another person's life!"

Felix stared at the plant for a moment in silence for a moment and then said "So… where is this yokai?" The voice seemed happy as it said "I knew you wouldn't be able to turn it down if you knew someone's life was on the line." Felix glared at the plant as he asked "Is it gonna be difficult?" The voice laughed and said, "It all depends on you, and I'll bring you there using foxfire again, also don't worry about getting broken, I'll be protecting you so long as you continue to entertain me." The voice then asked, "So are you ready to go?" Felix stared at the plant for a short while and then asked "What do I gain if I can safe the yokai, cause peace of mind doesn't exactly sound worth it." The voice seemed happy as it said "This is entertaining, you're trying to get something out of your superior after they just generously gave you a job to do." After a few seconds, the blue foxfire appeared in front of him, and then the voice chimed in and said "If you stop the spirit or sway the spirit to stop I'll give you any one thing you demand so long as it is in my power, this will be your payment per spirit you save, do you understand?"

As the blue fire engulfed Felix he nodded and said "Sure… I can work with that." As Felix appeared next to an oven he glanced at the fire it produced and asked "Where am I?" As a man walked into the kitchen wearing a white uniform and white hat he stared at Felix and shouted "What are you doing in my kitchen!" Felix stared at the man as he quickly said "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be here, I'm just lost, yeah that's it, I just suddenly appeared here!" The man grabbed Felix by his shirt and dragged him out of the kitchen and tossed him out the back door into some garbage while shouting "You nearly cost me my job!" Felix laid there in the garbage as he said "That was scary." As he stood up he heard the mysterious voice talking to him as it said "I brought you to the exact location of where the yokai has been causing issues." Felix glanced around looking for where the voice was coming from as he asked "Where are you talking to me from?" As the voice spoke again it said "The leaf on your head, I can still talk to you through it since it's connected to your birth tree."

Felix held the leaf in his hand as he asked "You wouldn't happen to have a way for me to figure out what I'm dealing with and how to deal with it… would you?" The voice began to laugh as it said "I know exactly what you're against and how to deal with it, but if I told you how then it wouldn't be near as fun as I watch you try your best to convince them to stop… but I suppose I can tell you that the chef who just threw you out gave you a hint as to what you should keep an eye out for." Felix stared at the door and said "What? The yokai makes food disappear?" The voice laughed as it said, "Yes and no, soon you'll see that it's a lot more than disappearing food." Felix walked out of the alleyway he was tossed into and onto the main street as he said "I can already tell that this job is gonna be tough." The voice laughed as it said, "Of course, plus, if you get caught and people start realizing that your tail is real, you'll be the next one to be hunted down."

Felix stared at the leaf in his hand and then glanced at his tail as he said "I wish you would've told me that a little sooner." As a few people began to stare at him and whisper about the way he was dressed the voice said "I'll help you out just this once, walk back down the alleyway and I'll wipe their memory of you, Using this on a larger scale would've been near impossible, so be grateful." As Felix hid in the alleyway the voice said "Now they have no memory of you, I'll be enjoying the show from this point on, good luck."
