Chapter 4 The New Tenant

Once Felix arrived back at his birth tree he laid down under it and mumbled "If I'd stayed there any longer I don't think I would've made it out alive." Felix stared at the tree as he said "And getting hit by that thing they called a car hurt a lot too." As Felix laid there he heard a mysterious voice say "A lying fox spirit? It's not anything new, but using the higher-ups as your excuse is quite unforgivable." Felix shot up as he asked, "Am I hearing things, or is a strange voice talking to me?" As the voice spoke again it said "You are hearing a voice, the voice of your superior who has been keeping a close eye on you." Felix glanced around as he asked, "So what are you gonna do?" The voice began to laugh for a moment and then cheekily said "I'm not going to do anything, but I am gonna have you move into that apartment since you wanted to avoid it so badly… that and watching you three was very… amusing."

Felix stared at the tree as he said "I'd rather stay under this tree though." The voice began to talk once more as it said "You'll have your tree, that I can guarantee you." As the tree shrunk down into a sapling it was uprooted and placed in a pot on the ground while the voice said "You'll be taking it with you as you move in." Felix picked the pot up and stared at the tree as he desperately said "Please don't force me to go back there." The voice began to laugh as it said "It's too late to beg, you made your bed and now you must lay in it." As a blue fire began to approach him he turned his back to the fire and covered the plant as he shouted "What is this blue flame!" The voice began to laugh once more while saying "It's the consequences of your actions for acting like a fool." As the fire engulfed him he found himself in a room where he seen Lilac and Silkie holding a match. Felix stood there clutching the tree as he nervously said "S-so… it looks like the higher-ups are allowing me to live here."

Silkie stared at him with a smile and said "Then it looks like we'll be seeing each other often, I look forward to teaching you about modern society." Felix continued to clutch the plant as he said "O-of course, thank you for taking the time to teach me." Lilac glared at him as she mouthed the words "What the hell" at him silently. Silkie grabbed Felix by his shirt and pulled him out of the room and towards another as she said "You should have a room already if the higher-ups have already approved of it." Silkie stared at the room's nameplate as she said "I was right, this room has your name on it now, your higher-ups sure do work fast, fox spirits are amazing." Felix stared at the nameplate while clutching the tree as he awkwardly said "They sure do." Silkie stared at the nameplate as she said "That's odd, it doesn't have your last name there."

Silkie opened the door as she cheerfully said "Well I wouldn't worry about it too much, I'm sure your higher-ups will sort it out." As they seen the inside of the apartment Silkie pulled him inside and excitedly said "Let's see if they added anything to your room!" Once they were in the room Silkie looked around and said "Well… it's very… empty." As Felix stared at a worn-out mattress in the corner of the room he asked "What's that thing?" Silkie let go of him and walked over to it as she said "It's a mattress for a bed, you sleep on it… although this one is very worn out." Felix stared at it for a while and then set his potted birth tree down before laying down on it and saying "This is much more comfortable than the ground." Silkie stared at him for a moment and then awkwardly said "Shall we look at the bathroom now?" Felix stared at her from the bed and then sat up and nodded.

Silkie walked over to the only other door in the room and opened it revealing a dirty bathtub and a running sink. Silkie stared at it for a moment and then said "So that's where she's been." Silkie glanced at Felix as she cheerfully said "It seems that one of the shy yokai living here wanted to see you, but I don't think she wants to reveal herself to you." As Felix walked over to the bathroom he asked "What do you mean doesn't wanna reveal herself to me?" As he entered the bathroom he saw a fogged-up mirror and the words "It's nice to meet you" slowly be written on it. Felix jumped backward and hid behind the door frame as he said "That room is creepy, how are those words appearing there?" As he hid there Lilac appeared behind him with a knife and said "You should stop being so mean towards your neighbors." Felix quickly turned around and stuck to the wall as he nervously said "I-I didn't mean it in a bad way… it just sounded bad!"

Felix glanced back at the mirror and seen that the sink had stopped and that there were new words there that read "I'm behind you." Felix's hair on his tail shot up as he shouted "There's something behind me?" As Felix seen Lilac his fur laid back down as he said "Oh right, guess they were playing a trick on me." Lilac glanced beside her and said, "No she's definitely somewhere around here, although we can't see her." Felix stood still for a moment as Silkie nodded and said "She usually hides like this at first, but I'm sure she'll get used to you soon." After Felix stood there for a while completely silent Lilac stared at him and asked "Why are you standing there so quietly." Felix glanced at her as he said "I can sense something standing beside me, it's very close to my face and I don't wanna scare it because you might stab me with a knife." Felix relaxed after saying this and then said "Looks like they left, I can't feel the presence anymore."

Lilac held a knife up as she angrily said "So your afraid I'll stab you… is that what you think of me?" Felix took a step backward as he quickly said "N-no, of course, that's not what I think of you, in fact, I think your very kind and caring, your also extremely gentle and wouldn't hurt a fly!" Silkie glanced at him as she said "That's an odd way to describe her, she usually ends up stabbing people she likes, although she usually makes up excuses to stab them." Felix glanced at Silkie and asked, "I wouldn't suppose she's ever tried to stab you has she?" Silkie shook her head as she said "No she hasn't, but she has gotten into some trouble for stabbing multiple guys, and it was very hard for the other yokai to cover it, but it eventually got passed off as a serial killer and she got scolded fo-" as Lilac covered her mouth her face turned bright red as she shouted, "Let's stop talking about this!" Silkie grabbed her hand and moved it away from her mouth as she said "Okay, but I figured he would like to know why you keep stabbing him."

Lilac glanced at him and pointed the knife at him as she shouted "You didn't hear anything, you got that?" Felix quickly nodded as he said, "Yeah, I didn't hear anything about you killing anyone!" Lilac tossed the knife into his chest as she said "You liar!" Felix stumbled back with the knife in his chest as he said "I can still feel the pain, please stop stabbing me!" Silkie smiled as she said, "It seems like you to get along well." Felix glanced at her while pulling the knife out as he said "Am I not seeing the same thing as you?" Lilac grabbed the knife from him and began to repeatedly stab him in the chest as he shouted "She is stabbing me with a knife, how does this even come close to getting along!" Lilac continued to stab him as she blushed and said "If you didn't want stabbed you shouldn't have moved in here!"

Felix continued to back away while being stabbed as he said "Can't we just talk this out and, ow! That hurts!" Silkie began to walk towards the exit as she said "You both seem to be having fun so I won't interrupt you two, I hope you continue to get along well." Felix began to head towards her but ended up tripping as he shouted "Wait no! Please don't leave me here with her!" As he laid there reaching for Silkie, Lilac sat on his back and repeatedly stabbed him while saying "Just shut up, this is your fault so just deal with it."
