Chapter 3 A Spider Woman

As Lilac entered an apartment building while carrying Felix she stood at her door and began to rummage through her pockets for a key as she said "This apartment is strictly for yokai, when your here you can relax without having to worry about being seen by any humans." As she opened the door she took off her mask while setting Felix down as she said, "You know, you should be happy that I found you, if you encountered a less friendly yokai it might've killed you." Felix sat there staring at her as she said "Also if you weren't a kitsune you would've died after being hit by that car the way you did." Lilac glared at him as she said "And you shouldn't be causing issues like that, if people were around and you caused an incident it would've been an issue to all the yokai in this city."

Lilac crouched down to him and pointed to him as she said "And if that happens, dozens of other yokai will come here questioning all of us about your whereabouts so they can kill you, and they don't always ask for information politely." As Lilac reached into her pocket and pulled out the leaf Felix's attention was drawn to it as she said "Now then, you can have your leaf back so you can ask me some questions if you have any." As Felix had the leaf placed on his head he changed back into his human form and looked at his hands while saying "I really am alive after that?" Felix glanced at Lilac as he asked "So how did I survive that?" Lilac pointed to his tail as she said "You'll survive just about anything so long as you have your tail, even if you have your head removed it'll come right back within a few seconds, but if you lose your tail, then there is no coming back for you." Lilac walked over to a counter and grabbed a knife as she said "Would you like me to show you?"

Felix stared at her nervously as he backed away slowly and said "No thank you." Lilac walked towards him with the knife as she asked "Why are you acting so nice now, you didn't have these manners a few minutes ago." Felix backed away across the floor as he said "Well you didn't have a knife a few minutes ago." Lilac began to thrust the knife at him as she said "Just let me show you that you won't die." Just as the knife was an inch away from his chest the leaf fell off of his head and onto the ground in front of him. Just before the knife could make contact with Felix in his fox form she stopped moving the knife and said "Using your fox form is unfair, I wouldn't dare hurt you in that adorable form." Felix stared at the leaf on the ground for a moment as he thought "If I pick my leaf up and transform she'll stab me without hesitation."

As he picked the leaf up in his mouth he hopped across the room without transforming back into his human form, and then he stood by the door. Lilac stared at him for a moment and then asked "Are you leaving already?" Felix continued to stare at the door as he mentally told himself "Once this door opens I'm making a run for it." As Lilac walked over to him the door swung open and a small girl with short black hair and red eyes said, "Lilac I can smell someone new from your apartment, did you finally get a boyfriend?" Felix froze for a moment and then the hair on his back stood up and he took a defensive stance towards her. Lilac glanced at her as she said "No, I don't have a boyfriend and I don't plan on getting one, it's just a clueless yokai that was wandering around the city and he almost caused us some trouble." Lilac stared at Felix and said, "And for some reason, he is acting like a cat instead of a kitsune."

The girl glanced down at Felix and asked "Is this the guy you're talking about?" As the girl picked him up Felix began to struggle and try to break free from her as she asked "What's he doing?" Lilac walked over and took Felix from her as she said "He was trying to leave a while ago, maybe he's still trying to leave." As Lilac held him he quit struggling and the hair on his back laid back down. The girl stared at him for a moment and then said "He's not trying to run away now." As Felix stared at her he thought "This girl… she looks harmless but every fiber of my being is telling me she's dangerous." The girl stared at him for a while and then asked "Is he… scared of me." As Lilac said "No" the girl placed her hand inches away from Felix and watched as he began to try and move away from her hand. Lilac stared at him for a moment and said "Maybe he is a bit afraid of you." The girl lowered her hand and sadly said "But he hasn't even met me before." Lilac stared at her and said, "Just wait here for a moment, I'll explain to him that your not a bad person."

As Lilac carried him away she set him on the ground and crouched down to him as she said "Silkie isn't a bad person, she isn't scary in the slightest, and if you change back to your other form I promise I won't stab you." Felix stared at her for a moment and then changed back to his human form as he said "So her name is Silkie?" Lilac nodded as she pulled out a knife and said "Yes, and if you continue to make her feel bad I will stab you." Felix backed away as he glanced at Silkie and said "Okay, I'll go greet her then… so put the knife away!" As Felix walked over to Silkie he stuck his hand out and said "I'm Felix, nice to meet you." As she stared at his hand for a minute Felix felt Lilac's glare on the back of his head as he mumbled "If she doesn't shake my hand Lilac might actually kill me, I have to get out of her as soon as I can." As Silkie shook his hand she said "This is my first time meeting a fox spirit, fox spirits are supposed to a very powerful type of yokai, I hope we can be friends."

As Silkie shook his hand she asked "Why are you so quiet?" Felix stared at her for a moment and then nervously said "O-oh, it's nothing." Silkie stared at his hand and seen that it was shaking as she asked "Are you afraid because you can sense what I am?" Felix stared at her as he quickly said "W-what, who said I was scared?" Silkie put two fingers on his wrist and then said "Your pulse is faster than it should be." Silkie stared at him and smiled as she asked "Would showing you what I actually look like calm you down?" As she let go of his hand Silkie's lower body began to transform into that of a spider's. As Silkie stared at him she said "I usually stay in the shape of a human since this body makes it hard to move, but this should calm you down a bit, right?" Felix took a step back and said "It's not about how you look, I actually don't know why I'm acting like this, it's completely on instinct, it's sort of like a feeling that if I get too close, I might die."

Silkie took a step towards him as she said "I won't harm you, in fact, I faint at the sight of blood and couldn't even imagine bringing harm to another living person." Lilac held the knife to Felix's back as she whispered "You better stop making her feel bad." Felix froze in place as he said "I'm sure with enough time I can get used to being around you." Silkie smiled as she said, "Then does that mean you're moving into one of the apartment rooms and living here in the city with us?" Lilac glared at him as she shoved the knife slightly into his back causing him to make a strange sound as she said "I don't think he'd be able to do that, since he didn't know what a cat was until a few minutes ago." Silkie stared at him as she smiled and said "Then I could teach him about the city and all the things these humans do."

Lilac glared at him and then pushed the knife slightly deeper causing him to make another strange noise as he said "Sure, but I don't think I'd be able to live here at this apartment." Silkie stared at him and then asked "But why not?" Felix stared at her for a moment and then said "I don't think my higher-ups would like that." As Felix felt the knife loosen from his back he let out a sigh of relief as Silkie said "Oh, well that's too bad… be sure to visit often then." As Lilac removed and hid the knife he quickly left and said "Guess she was right about not being able to die unless my tail gets removed, still hurts though."
