Chapter Four-The Truth

Owen set down a cup of tea in front of me and smiled. I returned a small smile, lifting the tea and taking a sip.

"So, about that job you were planning on joining." He started, "I talked to my boss and he said he'd be glad to hire you but he needs you to come to the cafe tomorrow for an interview."

I nodded, "That's wonderful. I can't wait and I'll be there." I then eyed the door, wanting to leave so I could get back to the spell.

Levi noticed my eyes at the door but he obviously didn't get the hint because he also spoke.

"So where did you live before you came here and started at this school?" He asked.

I cleared my throat, "I lived in the city with my parents but also with my boyfriend, who had his own...house so I kinda just back and forth between the two."

Levi immediately frowned, "Boyfriend?"

I felt my heart drop. Was he homophobic? I nodded slowly and both of them exchanged a look before Levi sucked in a hard breathe.

"Is that bad?" I covered my face with stress, "I'm so sorry! I didn't know whether you agreed with it or not. I'm so sorry." I felt humiliated in seconds but felt Levi's hands on my shoulder.

"No, we are perfectly okay with you being gay." He said, "We just didn't know you had a boyfriend. We were kind of surprised since you are so far from the city and that usually makes relationships difficult."

I let out a small chuckle, "Oh, heh, no I don't- we aren't- He's not-...." I paused and watched as Owen and Levi tried to understand what was I was trying to say.

Then, as if it was obvious, Owen finally got what I meant and he gasped, as if it was the worst thing to ever happen.

"Oh my! We shouldn't have brought that up," He shook his head.

Levi seemed to get it and looked away for a second but I swore I saw a small smile on his face before he turned back.

"That's devastating. Do you need anything that could help?" He asked, his hands brushing through my hair.

I blushed, looking down at the tea and was about to dismiss it when the door swung open. Looking up at the door, I watched the third of the three I had met. Brian. He looked a little more serious then he was at the school, and when he saw me in the kitchen, his back straightened.

"Well, hello Vane." He said, making his way over to us with his eyes on me.

I shrunk back, uncomfortable with the way his eyes glared at my face as if I was a monster.

"Brian, hey!" Levi snapped his fingers in front of Brian's face, "What is wrong with you? Staring at someone is extremely rude, and for you mostly."

Brian ignored him, circling the counter until he was on the other side of me.

"What were you doing before you came here, Vane?" he asked.

"What do you mean?" I questioned, letting my back straighten to act more confident under pressure.

"I mean this." He put a paper down on the table and I went pale. The paper with the spell on it. I reached out and picked it up.

"How did you get this?" I whispered the question.

"It was dropped in an alleyway. I got suspicious and went back to your place. Found this." He held up the huge spell book.

Immediately in a quick movement, I got my magic to make me levitate backwards and I held my hands up, a bold purple glowing from the hands.

"Give that back, Brian, Now!" I snapped.

Not expecting what came next, I watched in horror as the three stopped what they were doing within seconds. Suddenly, there was more than one Owen, A sword spawned from Levi's hand, and Brian had clenched the book harder.

"What are you really doing here at the town?" He asked.

I narrowed my eyes, "Escaping an old boyfriend. Just happen to run into a strange magic source and came to the school to get it before it harmed the humans."

"You know what the magic is?" Levi questioned, before he launched himself angrily at me and suddenly I was pinned against the wall.

"Levi! Put him down he didn't do anything!" Owen screamed.

"Did you put the magic here? Are you the reason people here kill each other over stupid drama shit!" Levi then released me and I used my magic to throw him across the room.

"I didn't do anything!" I exclaimed, "But I know what they are!"

"And it will just happen to be in that book." Owen asked, though he was the only one he looked as if he didn't want to kill me.

Like every relationship, friends family or lovers, I ruined it and then they turned on me very quickly. I looked down, a feeling of sadness.

"Yes, of course. But the book is in a language that only my family can understand. Please, just give me that book. It's a long generational book and it can't be destroyed or my family would kill me." I claimed, reaching forward slightly, trying to get closer to my book.

"Tell us what the magic is." Brian demanded blankly, throwing the book across the room towards me, to which I caught and held close to myself. I sighed and leaned against the wall.

I looked at them, "It's called the Six Crystals. They are crystals that effect the thinking and actions of humans and magical creatures. They are hidden someone in the school, apart from each other most certainly."

"And you knew this and came here because of this?" Levi questioned.

"No, god no. I told you my parents sent me here, but when I got here it felt like a wave of power and I followed it." I said, "I'm sorry I lied I just didn't know you guys had powers. I should have stayed away from you all, I apologize." I then took my book and hurried towards the door.

"Wait, where are you going?" Owen asked.

I turned around, surprised that he had cared to ask. Then I looked at the others, who looked just as stunned that I was leaving.

"W-well I thought since you found o-out and seemed so angry-..." I continued confused, "That you didn't want anything to do with me and you wanted me gone."

Just then, before I could react, Levi came forwards and brought me into a weird unexpected hug.

"u-uh Levi?"

"Shh, I understand now."

I frowned, but didn't try to pull away, "What are you talking about?"

"You are used to people pushing you away because of your power, am I right?" He asked.

My eyes widened and I didn't respond at first, Derek coming up to my mind. I didn't have to say anything though. He had known the second he felt me tense. He sighed.

"You aren't the only one, Vane. We all have been casted out time after time just because of something we can't control." He said. I couldn't help but look towards the others. Owen bit his lip, looking away quickly and Brian just gave a solid nod.

I was shocked. How could it be that all the pains I thought I was alone in was something that they had always experienced?

"I'm sorry, I should go though. It's getting a little late and I really need to go back to my house."

"Your house," Brian pushed his glasses up and looked at Owen, he gasped with an excited face.

"Stay with us!" He said, "We have a guest bedroom you can stay in. C'mon please!" He exclaimed and held my arm. He jumped up and down excited and was already separating me from Levi, who looked a little upset. For some reason I felt a little sad I was being pulled from Levi's hold. He made me feel safe, not like Derek's hugs, but I just let Owen take me into the guest room.

"I don't know, Owen, I don't want to overstay my welcome." I hesitated to agree, even after seeing the beautiful and nicely decorated room.

Brian came up behind us, "Vane, we insist you stay here. It's much safer and since you have abilities like us, we should all be together. Protection is very important."

Levi took my hand suddenly and I felt my face light up in embarrassment.

"You really do need to stay. We'll be on your side the entire time." He promised.

I blushed, "Um-okay, okay! I'll stay," I hesitated nodded.

Everyone smiled.

"Alright everyone, give him some space to get himself comfortable." Owen suddenly started pushing the two out the door. I giggled and watched the door close before I turned around and sighed. I loved the room. It was a upgrade to both the house in this town and the house I lived in with Derek.

I had shared a room with Derek and it was huge but it was cold. Derek knew that me being cold made me weaker. He kept the room cold because he didn't want me to be stronger than him in any way. It was also that even when he slept with me on the bed, the way his arms had a forceful strong grip on my waist still made my stomach roll and I hated it.

Setting the book down on the desk, I sat down on the bed and sighed as I leaned against the bed. Then, unexpectedly, the door slowly opened and Levi stuck his head in. I looked up in confusion and opened my mouth to speak.

Levi held his finger to his mouth and closed the door, coming over to the bed and sitting across from me.

"Hey, I know you probably what some time alone right now, but I wanted to ask you something."

"What is it?" I asked.

"Well, when you told me earlier that you had an ex, I didn't want to say anything because of giving you time. But I knew that if I held off, you could think of me differently. So-" He took my hand in his and smiled, "would you maybe think about going on a date with me?"
