Chapter Five-A New Step

I sat there in shock as Levi held my hand gently. I didn't know what to say. Even though we just met, a date would have been the perfect way to get to know him. And who knows, it could be the perfect way to get to know him.

But of course Derek had been in my mind. Wasn't it disrespectful to try to move on so soon? No, he was a dick. I deserve to be happy and give other a chance.

"Levi, are you sure you want to take me on a date? I mean, we barely know each other." I asked.

He smiled, "That's what dates are for, Vane. So someone who loves someone else can truly see if they like each other. And if you don't like me even a little by the little just tell me. But if you are at all interested, then maybe we could go on a second date a little after."

I reached across to put my hand on his upper arm, reassuring him, "I would love to go on a date with you."

He smiled, kissing my knuckle on my hand before standing up slowly, "I'll take you tomorrow after school and the job interview. I will pick you up after."

Then he left the room, making the silence almost worth it. Almost. So I stood up to go see what Owen was doing. Then the phone rang and I gulped.

Walking over to the phone, I picked it up and answered it without thinking.

"Hello?"

"I know where you are now, poor Vane, but don't worry. I'll come there and take you home with me again." Derek's deep voice spoke over the phone made me tense, though I knew it was him.

The phone went silent for a minute as I realized what he meant and I took a deep breath.

"I am done with you, I'm moving on, and I have everything I need. A educational chance, a relationship bonding with friends and this cute guy, and away from you. So obviously I have nothing wrong in my life except that you keep coming back. Just leave me alone" I hissed out, hanging up before he could say anything.

Letting out a small sob, I couldn't handle it anymore. Instead of going out to see Owen, I locked the door and slowly slid down the door. Tears made their way down my face and I tucked my head into my knees. I shivered with the way my body shook in a break down.

No, I couldn't do this. I had to focus on school, right? Should I have stayed with Derek in the first place?

My eyes closed and I remembered the image of the spell I casted before I left. The dead look in my face. He was so demanding and there wasn't anything I could do except run. But running didn't seem enough because I wasn't the only one with special abilities. He was like a Succubus but not to just sleep with men. To manipulate all.

Wiping my eyes, I stood up and took off my shoes, tucking myself into bed and letting worry leave my body and falling into sleep.

As I woke up, I immediately sighed and leaned my head against the pillow, not wanting to get up for school.

Sliding out of bed slowly, I got dressed and grabbed everything I needed for school. As soon as I grabbed my phone, I looked at the texts and gulped. twenty five texts from Derek and I got rid of the thoughts and stuffed my phone in my pocket.

"Vane, are you awake yet?" Owen knocked on the door.

"Yeah, I'm awake Owen."

I could feel the cheerfulness coming through the door, "Okay! Good morning Vane! I'm making breakfast so just come to eat when you're ready." He said.

Opening the door, the smell of food overwhelmed me and I brought my bag and sitting down in the stool, letting out another yawn. Suddenly, a very much awake and handsome Levi as he walked out of his room with his perfect blonde hair.

Owen greeted him and started making plates of breakfast for everyone. Just like that, Brian walked into the kitchen with a small floating blue tablet. I was in shock, but hid it as I looked down at my fingers, which curled on each other. Brian then stopped and looked down at my hand.

"You should unwrap your bandage. Now that it stopped bleeding you should let it air out but wash your hands and tonight you should put some things on it so it wouldn't get infected." Brian said. He typed a few things on his floating tablet before I could see it was a reminder for him to say that later.

I looked at Levi, who was sitting beside me. I hadn't said anything out loud about the dating because I didn't know anything about whether he wanted me to know or not.

"Okay." I muttered, pulling the bandages off and letting the huge cut show.

The cold air hit my cut and I gasped in pain. "Godda-"

"No bad words." All three of them said at the same time, making me shriek in surprise.

"here you go." Owen put the plate down.

When we got to school, everything was okay. Everyone was normal but the other three were now watching me closely as I walked in the hallways. I knew why. They were trying to find out if I was feeling the waves of magic from the crystals nearby.

"How are you feeling?" Levi whispered in my ear, making me look down blushing.

I nodded, "Yeah, it's fine. I can't feel anything unusually."

He nodded, bringing his head back up confidently to make sure that the other students didn't get suspicious in the four of our behaviors.

"Hey, i'm going to go to class, so just come to the algebra room if you need me." Levi said before walking a little faster and disappearing in the crowd.

I turned and stopped at my locker, starting to put things in my locker. Suddenly someone appeared beside me, a tall guy with black hair. He had these green eyes that gazed at me as I gasped in surprise of his presence.

"hey, your new here, right?" He asked.

I gave a small smile, turning back to the locker before answering. "Yeah, just came to this school. And you?"

"My name is Eric." He answered, "I already know your name, Vane. Ah! that's sounds creepy. Anyways, I'm here because I just wanted to know if you wanted to be friends with me. We sit by each other in science."

"That's right," I closed my locker, turning to him, "Okay I guess it wouldn't hurt to be your friend."

"Great! would you like to go to class right now?"

"Okay!"

"So, you must have people ask you this all the time, but how do you keep your skin so perfect?" He asked, reaching over and brushing hair passed my face and looking at my jawline and cheek.

I nervously laughed, pulling away from him as casually as I could as I entered the classroom.

"I don't know. I guess regular showers and face cleaning."

He smiled, "Well you have beautiful skin. I'm guessing some of the girls here are already falling in love with you."

"Thank you."

I smiled. A new friend! This was like a new step for me. It was perfect and I could believe I got this far in highschool. I wasn't just someone to be alone in a locked up house.
