So their falna limits their power instead of helping them grow. They will choose how much strength they will use before the falna is placed and that will be the amount of strength they will be able to use without breaking the falna or needing a "status update". So it's more like a seal actually. Think of Naruto's seal, it allows Kurama's chakra to flow little by little, right? Like that but instead of chackra it's their strength and experience.
