First Impressions - 2

Inside the bedroom Zeke was on a video with one of his best friends Nate. He was unaware that Mýa was outside his door.

"What do you think of your neighbors?" Nate asked Zeke as they were talking on the video call.

"I don't really know yet," Zeke answered honestly. "I have only seen one this cute girl around my age so far, but I haven't really met her."

"No fair bro! You just moved there and already there is a cute girl in the mix." Nate complained.

Zeke laughed, "Exactly, I just got here. So I don't know anything yet and we don't know each other. You live in a neighborhood surrounded with people our age. I can think of five girls in our grade that live there, why are you complaining?"

"Well yeah I know," Nate said "But she doesn't know you or anything about you yet. Just how long do you think it would take for her to fall for you. Your You! I bet she will be super easy for you to get." He laughed at the end of the sentence. Zeke hadn't said anything yet when his door was opened.

Mýa had heard everything they said and she was not very happy about it. She hated guys that acted like Nate had, talking about girls that way. She was very angry at them for having turned her into a boy crazy person who anyone could easily get.

She walked into the room and putting a blank face on said, "I think it would take a very long time for the neighbor girl to fall for him. She kind of just heard everything you guys said and now finds Zeke a little bit repulsive. She isn't an easy girl." Mýa then turned to leave before adding, "Zeke your mom wants you downstairs in the kitchen."

Mýa quickly went down the stairs and walked into the kitchen where Ms. Elly and Riley were unpacking and arranging kitchen utensils, food, and other things into cabinets. She told Ms. Elly that she was going to leave now and that Zeke was on his way down. She then gave Riley a quick goodbye hug and went out the door quickly so she wouldn't have to deal with Zeke anymore.

By the time Zeke managed to end the call with Nate, get down the steps, and into the kitchen Mýa had just walked out the front door. Zeke rushed down the stairs to try to stop her so he could apologize but saw how far away she was and gave up. He realized that he needed to fix things or else it would be awkward and he didn't want Mýa to think of him badly. Instead of chasing after her and feeling terrible he busied himself helping his mom so he would forget about it.

~Four Days Later~

Mýa and her friends Illa (I L L A) and Hailey were walking in the mall. Mýa had been lucky and hadn't run into Zeke even once the last four days. He must have been busy unpacking and moving in because Mýa hadn't even had to try to evade him that hard, she just didn't really see him at all. She had helped Ms. Elly and Riley again one day but that was a day that Zeke hadn't been there, or he wasn't around apparently, so she had started to forget about him and was enjoying her time with her friends.

Illa had just told them a joke when Mýa heard someone call out her name. She took a glimpse around and saw a boy from her grade walking behind her. She turned around and faced the boy, Nathan, who said to her, "Hey Mýa, I was just wondering how many squats you did...." He took an obvious glance at her butt, "because, you are looking real good in those shorts."

Before Mýa could say anything he then looked at Illa and said, "You too Illa, call me up sometime."

He then winked and looked back at where his friends were sitting before Nathan and most of his friends started chuckling. He hadn't taken anymore than one step when Mýa grabbed ahold of his arm, spun him around, and punched him right on his jaw. Mýa quietly announced to Nathan and his friends in a cold voice, "I absolutely hate it when I get catcalled and you have no right to say that to me because a lot of girls do NOT like it, but I would normally just quickly walk away. But none of you will EVER speak to one of my friends like that ever again. Or else I'll make sure you regret it."

She then glanced at Nathan's group of friends to make sure the message sank in. As she was about to look away her gaze stopped on one person for an extra moment before she scoffed and walked away with her friends.

Zeke had been on his phone when we heard something going on. He looked up and saw one of the guys he met today and was hanging out with had approached a few girls. He forgot his name, but whoever he was said something to them that obviously made them unhappy. He then turned back towards the other guys near Zeke and Zeke saw that one if the girls in the group was Mýa. He watched as Mýa grabbed the guy and punch him in his jaw before talking to all the people there. Nathan! His name was Nathan, Zeke remembered now. All of a sudden Zeke noticed how Mýa scanned the group of boys and her gaze landed on him.

She scoffed and walked away leaving Zeke very confused. Zeke thought quietly for a moment before hearing what Nathan told the rest of the guys about what he did. Zeke realized that Mýa already thought bad of him and thought he was a player who was disrespectful, and when she saw him hanging around people like Nathan that didn't help her opinion of him. He decided to go fix things with her. Without saying anything he walked away from the group to try to find Mýa.
