Chapter 20

He stood outside her door for who knows how long. His fist found itself close to knocking on the door but it never actually did.

"I can do this, I can do this."

He was finally home, finally here where it all started. All thanks to Hux.

Ren owed him too much. Far too much.

He continued to stand outside her door, the courage he once had, drained.

How will she react when she sees him?

The thought sent Ren's stomach into a fit of butterflies.

"I can do this, I can do this," he repeated the same words once again. They sounded unconvincing to him. Ren already knew he couldn't do it. His heart couldn't be broken again. He didn't  want the incident with Katherine to repeat.

But soon his thoughts wandered to Hux.

He was here because of Hux. Ren now owed him.

That idea drove him forward.

So finally he knocked on the door. Facing the next challenge head on.

A knock came from her door but Rey wasn't in the best mood to answer it.

Well not exactly, gone. But she had no idea where he was.

It worried her more than she'd liked to admit.

The same knock came again.

"Who is it?"

The answer came in another knock and Rey got irritated.

"Goddammit."

She walked towards the door. Reaching forward she put her hand onto the door knob and swung the door open.

"You've got some —"

Her anger soon surpassed into pure shock after her eyes landed on the one who was knocking.

It was him.

It was Ren.

He was actually here.

Hux was bored, extremely bored. For the day he'd called off "Heartbreak Hotline." Telling Snoke that Ren was sick when in reality he was in another state claiming his crush.

His thoughts wandered back to Phasma. Admittedly there hasn't been a day in which he hadn't thought about her.

The pain of losing her consumed him once again and he went to reach for his phone.

Scrolling down his contacts he found her name.

His finger hovered over the call button. Butterflies filling his stomach with nerves.

His finger pressed 'call' quickly. Then he waited for her to pick up.

"Hello? Who is this?"

Her voice filled his ears and he bit his lip to keep from screaming out of pure happiness.

"Hey Phasma."

Hux's voice quivered slightly as a sound of pure shock came from the voice on the other line.

"Hux, is that you?"

"Yes, yes it is."

"Why are you calling me?"

"I wanted to apologize Phasma. There hasn't been a day in which I haven't thought of you. I was stupid, I'm sorry."

There was no response at first and Hux felt his stomach drop.

"I can't believe you'd call after all this time. I can't believe it," she laughed nervously.

"It's because after watching my friend fall in love I realized my mistake. I know it's late, but all I want is your forgiveness. That is all. After this phone call you could delete me from your phone, never talk to me again or whatever, it's your choice. I just want to know that I've been forgiven."

A moment of silence proceeded and Hux's stomach worsened with nerves.

"I forgive you Hux. I really do."

"Really? Thank you so much," he started to laugh, close to dancing around the studio.

"One more thing though."

"And that is?"

"I want to see you again."

"Kylo," Rey breathed out attempting to avoid his gaze. "What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to come back."

"But why?"

He chose not to respond, still not believing that he was back and Rey hadn't yelled at him yet.

She probably will, after the shock wears off.

"Here, come inside. We'll talk."

Ren did as he was told, walking inside the apartment and placing his bag carefully on the ground. After Rey shut and locked the door she turned to face him.

"Why are you here?"

Ren stepped toward her, taking her hands in his.

"I'm here because of the stupid bastard that is Hux. I'm here because I was stupid. I'm here because..." he looked down at his feet.

"Because what?"

"Goddammit! Because I'm in love with you Rey. I've been in love with you and all I've been doing is running from the feeling. But I decided to stop running, thanks to the words of Armitage Hux. So I'm here and I know you're probably mad at me and don't want to see my face again but damn it feels good to let that out."

Rey looked up at him then down at her feet. A smile crept onto her lips.

"So can I kiss you now?"

Rey nodded still smiling.

So that's what Ren did. He kissed her with all he had and boy, did it feel good.
