You Are A Genius

"Hairy rat?"

Vernon's hand shook slightly on the table, and his facial expression appeared somewhat unnatural.

"Dudley, I think you should reconsider this. My business partner has connections in the pet industry. Our family could consider getting a loyal Labrador or Golden Retriever, and perhaps a smaller Persian cat. I believe these pets would be easier to care for. But as for a rat or something..."

Vernon paused, visibly flustered, and picked up the brown sugar water on the table to take a sip. He found that starting his day with a cup of sweet tea made his mind clearer. Subconsciously, he cast a glance at his wife.

Petunia, on the other hand, chose not to side with Vernon this time. She looked at Dudley and spoke up: "Vernon, a fundamental aspect of being a good father is keeping promises we make to our children. You did promise three weeks ago..."

Seeing Petunia's intention to bring up old promises, Vernon quickly waved his hand and relented, "Alright, I understand. Whatever kind of rat it is, this is the thousand pounds I promised in advance. Dudley, you can buy a fancy cage for this pet. After all, it's going to be a part of our family in the future."

Dudley smiled and accepted the money from Vernon, realizing that his father must have recently closed a deal with a developer to be this generous. Vernon suddenly recalled something else, "If my guess is correct, the children's biology journal should be calling us this morning. In the afternoon, the postman will likely deliver the payment for your article and a letter of invitation. It's a significant moment, and it's something you'll need to handle yourself."

Dudley listened to his father's words and smiled faintly. He had meticulously planned everything in advance. The real woolly rat was already part of an experiment with the python in Morrison's biology laboratory. This time coincided with the rat's growth cycle, and Chinchillas couldn't stay in the laboratory forever. If anything went wrong, his entire plan might be jeopardized.

After breakfast, Dudley glanced at the utility room under the stairwell, where Harry lived.

There was still a padlock on the front of his cabin, a clear sign that the recent zoo incident had unnerved Vernon. In a bid to conceal his underlying "fear," he had subjected Harry to a two-week breakfast ban.

But this didn't concern Dudley at all. Harry was his precious wizardry observation subject, and Dudley had covertly purchased a significant supply of dry bread and canned food for him. Today, he didn't have the time to cater to Harry's feelings.

Dudley left with a thousand pounds from Vernon, exited the house, hailed a taxi on the roadside, and headed to Morrison's laboratory. He was eager to see the new creature he had created, a chinchilla with active cells in the eye area of a python.

.....

The taxi came to a halt, and Dudley handed over ten pounds as he arrived at the tall office building etched in his memory. This was the entrance to Morrison's biological laboratory. Before he could enter, he spotted a young man in a white lab coat, waving with a smile.

"Dudley, I didn't expect you to arrive so early today," Evans said as he approached. Dudley's steps paused, and he recognized Evans, who had previously given him a tour of the biological laboratory.

"My dear Dudley, you truly are a genius!" Evans exclaimed with enthusiasm.
