38 - Final shift pt.2

Jack walked over to the sensor and waved his hands over it.

Billy saw and heard the sensor go off and he immediately smiled widely.

"Thank you."

"Let's do 2 activations for yes, 1 for no, and nothing if you're not sure."

"Okay?" Billy inquired but then had a thought and shortly after he said,

"Make it go off twice if you understand."

Jack, figured he could try and do it with the 5% chance but it might get misunderstood if he took too long to trigger it twice.

So he waved his hand rapidly back and forth over the sensor until it went off and then tried making it go off again but it took a dozen seconds.

Fortunately for him, Billy was patient.

"Take your time, I know it must be hard for you to interact with us living folk." Billy said understandingly, he made Jack feel even worse for what he planned to do later.

After the second activation happened Billy was excited to get this started and said,

"Okay, I'll wait for a minute or two between questions before I accept the answer and move on, if you made a mistake just try and make it go off 3 times."

"Let's get started, the first question is..."

"Are you male?"

Jack thought this was a weird question considering they know he was named Jack but he answered anyway by waving his hand a bit slower so that he doesn't accidentally answer incorrectly.

Unknown to Jack, this is what they call a control question so they can prove reasonably that they are talking to a person with intelligence that is invisible to them.

Billy plans on mainly asking these so that they have solid proof.

After a couple of seconds, the motion sensor went off and then after trying for another dozen seconds it went off again.

Jack made sure he stopped, he didn't want to be taken as a female.

After the second activation, Billy smiled happily but didn't count his eggs before they hatched and waited a couple of minutes to see if there would be another activation.

If the motion sensor was activated randomly then skeptics would use that fact to disprove all the evidence they gathered and say it was fake.

After a couple of minutes, Bill continued.

"So you are male, Then the second question is..."

"Do you want us here?" Billy asked.

Jack didn't even have to think about it and immediately indicated yes again and billy waited a few minutes before continuing.

"Yes." Billy couldn't help but wonder why he wanted them here, but eventually arrived at the conclusion that maybe he might need them for help or something.

However, Jack obviously wanted them for the experience.

"Okay, then the third question..."

"Are you friendly?"

Jack wondered whether this mattered or needed to be asked, if he wasn't friendly he would do all he could to scare them away but answer positively anyways.

Billy saw the yes indicator and after waiting for a minute again moved on to the next question.

"Next question..."

"Are you happy?"

Jack didn't really need much thought for this one, of course, he isn't happy, he died!

But there's nothing much he can do so he quickly accepted this new life and held off getting any answers until he is sure he is safe.

After all, he is a ghost himself now, who knows what other things are in this world lurking about.

After Jack indicated he was not happy billy waited for a bit and then asked.

"Is there anything we can do to help you?" Billy inquired since he thought he wanted their help.

Jack thought about this for a while and debated on if he should see if they can confirm whether his death in this world happened or not.

After thinking about it for a couple of seconds he decided to say no for now.

Billy after seeing the no indication was confused since he thought a ghost might have some unfinished business in the living world and wanted them here for help but after waiting a couple of minutes and not seeing the sensor get set off accepted the answer and moved on.

"No, Okay next question."

"Are you here all the time?" Billy asked.

Jack indicated yes and Billy absentmindedly thought it was no wonder he turned the TV on, he wouldn't have much else to do.

"Next question..."

"Are you bored?"

' Since he was here all the time this answer should be obvious but I'll ask anyways.' Billy thought.

However, to Billy's surprise, Jack indicated no.

Well if Jack had to be honest although it gets boring sometimes he has been having fun messing with everyone and it's a relief to have no worries about school or any responsibilities, of course, he does miss his family.

"No, okay then, the final question then."

"Do you mean any harm to the family living here?" Billy asked.

Jack didn't even have to think much obviously he didn't.

'That's good, that should ease the family a little.'

Billy smiled when he got the indication for no and thought to himself.

"Okay enough for the questions, thanks so much for cooperating with me." Billy said.

Jack hesitated and really couldn't continue his original plan with how nice this guy was.

He originally wanted to use all his energy to do something big for the finale but it might really make them fear him if he did it.

But before he could hesitate or think too much Billy asked,

"Can you do something to show us your power?"

Billy mostly wanted to see just how strong this spirit is and what he would do, he isn't afraid since this spirit hasn't harmed them and even though Adam fainted, that could hardly be blamed on Jack, considering they all knew about Adam's timidity.

'Well, since you asked, you can only blame yourself for this.'

Jack thought to himself as he stopped hesitating and started his plan.
