My life

I've always wanted to be a genius. I don't know why I have this obsession. I'm not stupid, not at all, but not to that point. I've always been passionate about mathematics, computer science, theoretical physics, and new technologies. Even though I can't afford to buy them, I know these products better than the people who bought them.

Since I was a child, I dreamed of being a great mathematician, of having my name forever inscribed in the history books. Unfortunately, life had other plans for me.

Here I am, a 28-year-old young man with no job or diploma. After high school, I was accepted to a top engineering school in the country. After my first year, I dropped out because others told me that the future of an engineer is uncertain, especially in a third-world country like mine. After that, I was accepted into medical school, which I also dropped out of after my first year for the same reasons.

Apart from a few part-time jobs here and there, I do nothing with my life. I spend the day playing video games, the afternoon at the cafe and billiards, and the night reading novels and manga. That's my life.

As always, I was at the billiards table, with a coffee and a cigarette in my mouth, thinking about my life when suddenly I heard someone call me:

"Hey, Steve, it's your turn."

"I'm coming, I'm coming," I replied.

Time passed playing and talking. On my way home, I sat down on a bench and looked up at the starry sky. It was around midnight, and I was alone.

Another wasted day, I was about to get up when suddenly I saw a shooting star. It was time to make a wish. "Please make all this stop, make my life have meaning."

When I opened my eyes, I was shocked.

It wasn't a shooting star, it was a meteorite, and it was heading straight for me. I didn't even have time to think about anything else when the meteorite hit me. The last thing I remember is a blinding light before everything went black.
