Dark Matter

"Ahh yes the Institute" the Overseer pondered."Speaking of which I would like to ask you a question."

"Ask away."

"The Institute was an extremely prestigious organization with rich resources that has been around for as long if not even longer than our Vault. Now for my question and the reason I called you here. All that I want to ask you is how far did the Institute get in the research of Dark Matter?"

At the question Dante visibly stiffened "h-how do you know about that!"

"Oh don't be so surprised" the Overseer sneered "we placed spies in your organization decades ago they may not have been able to get much information back to us but, what we did find was truly . . . enlightening. Now Mister Dante answer the question WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT DARK MATTER!"

At the mention of Dark Matter I could feel Maria start shaking as she held me tighter. I looked over at Dante and he was also shaking and turning slightly pale.

"A-Aaron" Dante stammered.

"Right" Aaron answered while pulling a hidden knife out of his sleeve.

"Oh I wouldn't do that if I were you" The Overseer laughed. "Do you really think I would ask Captain Tanner and his men to leave so that I would be with you completely unprotected? I can guarantee you if your little synth courser takes so much as another step I guarantee you that and all your friends will be reduced to goo by the 30 turrets that are hidden in this room."

For a moment Dante seemed unconvinced but, eventually defeated he ordered Aaron to stand down. Dante let out a breath and seemed to age another decade before continuing.

"Fine I'll tell you everything but, not here Aaron has a copy of the Institute's research saved in his hard drives you can download it off him later. Right now I want to talk about us given that Maria has given birth we can no longer stay in that little hovel in the middle of nowhere you have had us in."

With a big smile on his face the Overseer replied "Of course I'll have you moved out immediately. The only reason we had you there in the first place was that we had to be 100% sure that you were not a threat to us. Now however with the confirmation of the Institutes destruction and the information your about to supply us I can be relieved in giving you citizenship.

All the paperwork has already been approved. Maria will go to work in are Bioscience division, You Dante will be helping us continue your research, and Aaron will join our Vault Defense Force I'm sure someone of his ability will be right at home there."

"What about my child" Maria asked looking a little worried?

"Do not worry about that he will be treated just like any other child born in the Vault he can attend school get a job and fall in love. For all he will know Vault 122 will have always been his home."

"Thank you" Maria let out a sigh of relief.

"Alright that's all the time I have to spare for you today. Captain Tanner will escort you to your new jobs and someone will come and pick you up tomorrow Dante so we can get what we need."

The Overseer saw us to the elevator and said his goodbyes.

I took one last look at him as the doors started to close and I could of swore he was looking at me.

. . . 3 Months Later . . .

After we left the Overseer's Office we were taken to our new house. It was a small two story house in the suburbs at the edge of town. Currently my mom was watching me play on the lawn I had just eaten (Thankfully from a bottle) and was trying to learn how to walk but, my body wasn't quite strong enough yet.

"Alright my little genius that's enough falling over yourself for today. Mommies show is about to start so it's time to go inside" she giggled as she came over and picked me up.

She carried me inside and placed me in my playpen.

Seeing my upset face she consoled me "Awe stop making that face I know you don't really like playing with any of your toys but, Uncle Dante came by while you were napping earlier and brought you some new toys you should look at them maybe you'll like one."

After that she went to watch her soap opera that recorded from before the Great War.

It was incredibly frustrating being a child my body weak, I was sleepy all the time, and I had zero bowels. I could only sigh at my situation and hope that I could grow up as soon as possible.

Looking around I decided I wanted to see what my uncle brought me. Even though I have no desire to actually play with any of my toys but, anything Dante give me was always interesting.

I scanned my playpen for anything new and stopped cold. Even though I had been living in the Fallout world for the last 3 months aside from that first day I hadn't actually seen anything fun. I was just living in a normal house with my mother and uncle; we didn't even own a Mister Handy.

What I saw in front of me was something I clearly remembered from the games. It was a SPECIAL BOOK.
