Chapter 15: Distance Part 1

"You are not allowed to love her, you are getting away from your actual goal, you can never bring her happiness, you're bound to be responsible for her death."

Duke opened his eyes. Inspite of the ceiling fan on its highest speed he was drenched in sweat. Another nightmare... No it was actually reality. Juliet was really going to die for loving Duke, it was a written destiny that has no other end. Duke got up from the bed and took a shower. He didn't get a proper sleep last night and moreover this dream made him more weak at the first hour in the morning. He got dressed and was waiting outside the car for Juliet.

Juliet seemed quite happy today as duke got home last night so the unnecessary thoughts of him vanishing from her life already left her mind. She looked fresh for a new start of the day. Wearing a white over coat with the proper formal outfit was making her look like a real angel. As she got near the car Duke opened the door.

"Why are you opening the back door?" Juliet said with a surprised voice. Duke looked down as he said "It is the right thing to do, you are my boss but I seemed to forget the difference of classes that we have". She was stunned with that answer. But this sharp words first in the morning irritated her enough to sit in the back without more arguments.

The whole ride was pin drop silent. No one talked to each other for the whole half an hour. Juliet didn't know what happened yesterday so she was thinking maybe it was the after effects of that incident. As they reach the office they went separately to the chamber which was another surprise move from Duke. After they became friends or more than that in her heart, Duke always went to their work chamber together then went for taking the morning coffee of her. But today it was not the case. After ten minutes of her going in the room, Duke came in with a cup of coffee in his hand, placed it on her table and straight went to his chair. Until the lunch time they never meet their eyes during work. Juliet looked in his way several times but he was never looking to her side.

Juliet felt a strange negative change in him. And that was after he came back yesterday because before that she felt they became very close to each other. So she made her mind that during lunch she had to know the reason of Duke's drastic behavioral changes.

With the sun on the top of the head the lunch break started. Duke usually go to grab both of their tiffin and eat with her in the room. But today he came back only with one box. Now it was done for Juliet's patience level. She springed up from the chair and grabbed the box slamming it hard on the table.

"Tell me what is wrong!??? You aren't behaving usual today!? What's gotten into you!??? Answer me!!! Why just one box!? Why the back sit!??? Answer me what did I do wrong!!!"

Juliet poured her anger in each word she said.

But Duke had never been so calm and composed before like he is now. He only said "I told you earlier that we are crossing our normal boss-employee relationship. So, before it's too late we should stop."

Juliet was staring at Duke blankly. She was feeling that the earth around her is spinning way faster than usual. Juliet grabbed him by shoulder while shouting, "LOOK ME IN THE EYES DUKE!!! Are we only boss employee??? You don't feel anything more than that!!! We became friends from strangers then shared every small things, I said you so many things about my likes, dislikes!!! Do you still think it's just that what relates us??? Only working relationship!???" Duke sternly said "Yes, we were crossing the limits that's why we should stop being more friendly than we need to be".

Now Juliet's eyes shined with tears.

In the verge of breaking down she asked him with whimpering voice, " Does this mean what we had between us was always one sided? Was it a fling to you? Then what about the time we spent together? What about that rainy night on the bridge!? That unforgettable first kiss of my life? Are all of those have no value to you!? Was it only me from the start having delusions about our relationship!??" A tear drop escaped from her eyes. Duke didn't speak for some minutes but when he spoke again it broke her more than anything.
