The sky is my blanket

Making their way out of the inner city as the sun started to creep bellow the distant city walls, Nirin narrated her experience within the ceremony to Clay. From the garden filled with exotic plants not seen before, too the bone dagger through the man's stomach, only leaving out the bones of a dracolich.

Noticing that his trial-ceremony-thing was different, Clay narrated his whole trial too not leaving anything out.

By the time the two had both finished their stories they had reached the large sprawling oak tree in the outer ring.

"Do you have a house? If so can I borrow a bed?" Nirin asked. Being homeless she usually had to find a hiding spot to sleep but with her new friend that might not be the case.

"Ahh, no. I usually sleep up in the tree. You can join me if you want." Clay responded slightly startled and embarrassed.

"Wait… where both homeless!" Nirin practically screamed before she even noticed.

"Well it's not that bad… at least I'm free of rain. Plus. hey! Don't laugh at me!" Clay started on his explanation, but before he could even get the first few words out, Nirin had started to release her laugh which could rival a drunken berserker.

Recovering her breath slightly Nirin continued with a sigh, "the sky is our blanket tonight" and gestured for Clay to climb, following soon after.

Finding his usual spot, Clay got himself comfortable within the heart of the tree's branches. Getting comfortable, Clay soon saw Nirin Approaching and got up.

"Need something?"

"Uh this is the only spot to sleep on this tree," Nirin said meekly "and it's super dark."

Clay smiled at Nirins act. The tree had plenty of spots to sleep, and yet Nirin had come over to sleep with him.

"Sure, yeah you can sleep here." Moving over and facing outwards from the center Clay went back to trying to sleep.

Nirin laid down next to him, facing towards Clays back, drifts off into sleep with her own thoughts.

Morning came and with twenty minutes left on the clock, and Clay woke to a sleeping Nirin cuddling him. Smiling so himself, clay extracted from the grand oak and went to the nearby well.

Cleaning himself up a bit he glanced into the sky.

Not knowing what might happen, Clay shook Nirin awake to prepare.

"Mmm," Nirin groaned. "just a bit longer"

"No there's not much time left. Plus it's almost noon." Insisting upon the situation, and for Nirin to get up from the tree, Clay shook Nirin some more.

"Fine. Stop shaking me. That was the best sleep in a while and you ruined it." she complained to Clay not knowing that he was the reason she was so cozy.

"And what do you mean by not much time left? What's happening?"

"Do you not see the giant timer in the sky? There's only thirteen minutes left."

"Ahh, I forgot about that. how long is left on it?"" Nirin asked in slight distress. To Clay It seemed as though tough girl from before was just and act. And that Nirin was actually a mess.

"Like I said, thirteen minutes."

"Well how do we prepare? Do you know what's coming?"

"Well… no, but, uhh."

"Then just don't worry about it, and take it as it comes"

"You got a point."

The minutes where slow and suspenseful for clay, as he counted every second as it. Passed by in the sky. Thoughts clouded his mind and tension rose within him. The almighty Tod had vanished soon after the timers creation, If even the almighty Tod was effected then what could it possibly mean!

With ten minutes left Clay tired to calm himself, sitting down upon the oak tree, he connected with nature. The wind blew everything around, and he intercepted their message.

Voices of townsfolk all over the city rushed passed his ears, some oblivious to the timer some not caring enough to worry about it. But what never changed between the voices was the lack of readiness. Nobody knew what the timer might bring.

With the final seconds approaching, Clay was ready for whatever mate come.
