Eight Year Later

Melony sits in her room as she looks at her calendar. She had finally finished high school and awaited her first day of college.

"Melony, come down to eat breakfast. We have to head out in 30 minutes, and we can't be late to open the store again." Grandfather Pete yelled at Melony.

"Coming," Melony said as she got up from her chair and went to get her sweater from the chair station next to her desk. "Something sure does smell delicious?"

"When has anything I made smelled bad?" Pete asked as he walked over to the small dining table and took a seat.

"Never, and you always make my favorite," Melony said as she took her seat and took the first bite of her meal.

"Come on, hurry up and finish your breakfast so you can get ready to go," Pete said as he took his last bite and cleared his plate.

"Are you trying to say that I am not well dressed?" Melony said as she pulled her hand to her chest, "I will have you know I am highly offended by that."

"Come on, Melony, you are gorgeous all the time," Pete said, returning to the table and collecting Melony's plate.

"I just need to grab a sweater from my room, and I will be ready to go." Melony gets up from her chair and heads to her room.

Melony walks to the front door, where her Grandfather is waiting for her. "Let's go, Grandfather." Melony walks out the door and heads to the car.

"Let's hurry. It is almost time to open the shop." Grandfather Pete said as he got in the car and took off toward the shop.

Melony took a deep breath once she got out of the car and looked at the flower shop maintained all these years, even though he had to care for Melony after her parents died. A big smile broke out, took Melony's face, and turned to her Grandfather Pete, "Thank you for everything, Gramps."

"Stop with the mushy stuff, and let us get the shop open," Pete said as he waved Melony into the shop.

"Alright, Captain." Melony got the shop open.

At the second that, Melony turned around to remove the locks from the door. Her grandfather was gone. "Grandpa," Melony calls out as she looks around. "Grandpa, where are you?" Melony walks out to the edge of the building, looking for Pete. Melony hears a noise coming from the corner of the shop. She rushed over to find her grandfather on the ground. "Grampa, come on, you cannot leave me too."

Melony looks around, trying to find someone to help her, "Is there anyone who can help me?" Nobody answered. She took out her phone and dialed. "Hello, yes, I need an ambulance. My grandfather passed out, and I haven't had any luck getting him to react."

"I need you to keep coming. We are dispatching an ambulance right now." The dispatcher's voice said.

"Hurry, please." Melony turned back to her grandfather and checked his pulse. It was still there but very slow and faintly. The dispatcher waited on the phone with Melony until the ambulance showed up and took her grandfather away.
