Death Note : A New Story

What if the 'Death Note' was given to someone other than Light? How would the incidents progress? Would there be havoc and chaos or peace and prosperity? Find out in an alternate story of the franchise 'Death Note'. (Will be on break for quite some time. L's Backstory

(Note: This chapter is from L's perspective.)

I reached a no-name graveyard in Japan along with Watari. Yesterdays heated conversation about my family lead to this. I needed to know more of who my biological parents were. I had spent too much time in the orphanage acting as a detective.

We landed our helicopter in Japan, as per Watari's instructions. It was then, I saw a young man travel out of the graveyard at this time in the night, which was quite peculiar. As he looked back, I scanned his face for any abnormal actions and found none. His psychology seemed fine. A simpleton with long black hair, with a bit of a stubble, and an oval face similar to mine. His bold eyes showed his determination, but a man this young couldn't possibly have a criminal background. Reaching the grave at this time, hmm. It could be because he knew someone here in this graveyard.

I turned my head towards the gate of the graveyard and walked in.

I advanced towards a tombstone that Watari had led me to. The grave wasn't tended to, so it either implied that not many cared about the people buried here, or that the people buried here were hidden from the public eye.

L (mumbling while placing a thumb on his chin): "No. The second probability isn't possible considering the man that walked in here. He was too normal from my observations. Therefore, this graveyard is publicly available. It could also be probable that not many people were buried here to begin with."

I moved my hand from my chin and looked at the name on the tombstone. My eyes enlarged as I see written, the name,

'Wade Lawliet.'

Hmmm. I looked at the number of gap in the number of years between his birth and death, on the tombstone. Wade.....presumably my father. Considering Watari's kind hearted nature, if I had a sibling, he would have brought him to the orphanage along with me. A single child, with a dead father. He could possibly be my Uncle, but Watari wouldn't have brought me here if that was the case.

L(while looking at the tombstone): "Tell me Watari, why did my father die?"

Watari: "He was a criminal. I won't tell you what he did, but he did enough to die."

It's apparent Watari wouldn't want to tell me. He kept it a secret for a reason after all, I take it to be for the greater good.

My mother was never happy for having me as a child. I assume this to be the fault of my father who was a criminal. It seems as if I was unplanned, similar, to a miracle or tragedy, either way you see it.

There are two probabilities that strike my mind; one, my father was a criminal which led to my mother's sadness, or two, my father was a rapist, which led to my birth and the downfall of my family, or so it would seem from my mother's perception.

Thoughts passed my mind continually, but I didn't feel sorrow nor happiness about the death of my father, a man who's face was no longer etched in my memory, a man, who was a criminal.

I walked back into the helicopter and returned; back to my house, near Whammy's orphanage.

This chapter is a 'what if' situation where L realises his origin rather than spending time solving the original 'Kira' (Light) case. This incident slightly changes the L's perspective in the future.
