The ring's past

Yawwwn, George yawned as he woke up, not really noticing he was in an​ unfamiliar place, he was still trying to get his bearings when he noticed something flicker in his hand, when he took a closer look he found out it was a ring.

That's when all the memories of yesterday flooded back to him in an instant.

He remembered that he was in his parent's house and he was given a gift by the mistress.

A parting gift from his mom before she died, but why was it flickering like this, he had no idea.

But from last night's experience he noticed it took commands and this was a good thing.

"Ring"? he called out "can you stop flickering" he asked, but the ring paid no heed to him and continued flickering.

"What the hell is your problem again"? he asked, "okay what do you want now"?? he asked again dispirited.

"Like it could ever talk," he chuckled realizing that he had been talking so long with an ordinary ring, a non living thing!.

"But it is no ordinary ring" he thought​, it energized me but how can i get it to tell me what's wrong with it.

"Wait"! George exclaimed, "ring can you talk?" he asked, still no reply, he waited a bit still nothing, but just as was about to give up, he heard a soft feminine voice.

"Who is there" he asked thinking there was an intruder.

"Please don't freak out, please" the soft voice said. George heard her again but didn't know where exactly she was talking from, so George asked "who are you".

"I'm Iris" the voice replied, "so why don't you want to show yourself" George asked again, there was no reply for a while then he heard her again.

"Before I tell you, promise me one thing", she said, "well if it is what i can do, i would do but if i can't do it, then i won't".

"Don't freak out, hope you can do that" she asked again. "Yes i can" George replied.

"I'm right up here in your head" she said and kept mute.

George burst out laughing, he found this really funny, "why would i freak out from this kind of stuff" he asked her again.

This was a first for Iris, the very first time she was seeing someone not freak out from hearing there was someone in their head.

"Okay now, can you explain how you are in my head" George asked, suddenly feeling awkward that a being was now living in his head.

"I'm in the ring" she replied,"and i can talk directly into your head and nobody​ else can hear me".

This was amazing for George, he never had any friends in the first place, and now having someone talk to him and not just anybody but a girl, he hoped she was pretty though.

It was a miracle for George, "So who are you, where do you come from and if i may ask, how did you get into​ a ring"?, George asked again.

Iris sighed "I'm a goddess, and​ i'm from the heavens realm, well it's a long story how i got into the ring".

It's a good thing i'm not​ working then" George said. "We have all day".

"There are three realms, just so you know; the Heavens realm, the Earth realm and the Underworld realm", she started.

"And as i said earlier, i'm from the first realm which is the heavens. All of us up there were gods and goddesses except one person, he was a mystery, no one really had an idea of who he was and so we named him The mysterious one, and it seemed he was more powerful than all of us combined".

"So naturally, we made him our boss and we've lived peacefully since until the demons in the Underworld realm started to disturb the humans".

"And as i'm quite​ sure you know, there's always an opposite for everything, as the opposite for good is bad, right is wrong so was the opposite of the mysterious one, The dark Lord".

"Unlike the benevolent mysterious one, he was a more cruel being, and he decided to use the foolish humans as puppets to entertain himself".

"He sent his minions the demons to earth, to cause chaos and​ disrupt order and this they did".

"The humans before the incident never had any magical abilities but the demons came and made deals with corruptible humans, the greedy ones".

"They gave them power, and the humans used it to take control of other humans, thus creating chaos and​ imbalance​ in the world".

"And this was what the demons originally wanted, to make the humans disordered so they could usurp them when they were weak".

"But this atrocious act of the Underworld didn't go unnoticed by the Heavens realm, the mysterious one decided to appoint a few gods, to go to Earth and resolve the problem".

"But it wasn't as easy as that, we gods couldn't come to Earth in our normal form and we couldn't turn ourselves to humans".

"Unlike the demons who didn't mind if the consciousness of the humans were intact or not".

"The only way out, was to possess human bodies and this wouldn't be possible cause a body when possessed would lose it's consciousness, except for the body which is now nothing but an empty shell".

"So, the mysterious one came up with a new idea, he said we should be sent to Earth through artifacts and should only possess a body with consent".

"And this we did, we had managed to possess a few humans with their consent, but then the demons got wind of this and manipulated the minds of the humans, and we were termed demons of the artifact".

"This made our job harder, she continued. And so anybody that came across an artifact and discovered it has magical properties got rid of the artifact immediately".

"That was why i was surprised you didn't try to get rid of me when you discovered i could talk, i was even wondering when you would ask the ring if it could talk".

"Cause due to the demons interference, the mysterious one asked us to make sure, the artifact bearer asks us if we could talk before we started talking".

All that while, George listened to Iris speak with rapt attention, and without interrupting her.

This was really an amazing story but he still had something bothering him so he asked "so you are saying that if you possess me then I'll lose my consciousness... forever"? .

"Well yes and the same time no", she replied. "What do you mean by that" George asked again. The mysterious one already thought about this kind of situation, so with powerful magic he made artifacts that when worn will keep the human's consciousness".

Well that's good, George thought. If only he could get his hands on this other artifact, then who knows what power he might possess.

As if Iris read his thoughts she said you better not bother yourself for this artifact, i don't have it and you have to travel a long way before you can get it".

And if i can recollect you said you didn't have any money on you earlier so it's a no go mission".

But George was determined, he didn't have money then was because he wasn't strong enough to work for it, but now with this ring energizing him he was sure he'd make some cool cash.

But just to be sure he wanted to confirm so he asked her "So uhmm goddess Iris", he started,

"Just call me Iris" Iris said giggling, George blushed and continued "so Iris when i first wore the ring i was energized, the energy stays in me as far as i'm wearing the ring right"? he asked.

"Yes it will" she replied confirming George's thought.

"Just wait and see then" he said, you would be in for a big surprise.
