A busy day

After confirming his thought, George realized that he had been up since, and the sun was now fully up, he didn't notice it because he had been busy chatting with Iris.

He got up, washed and set out, today was going to be a very busy day for George.

He went to the townhouse to see if there were any traveling merchants needing escort.

When he got there he noticed how busy it was, he didn't even know where to register so he walked to a guard by the door.

"Excuse me sir, please do you know where i can register for an escort guard for traveling merchants"?? he asked.

The guard looked at him and continued what he was doing as if nobody was talking to him, George repeated himself, this time a little bit louder.

"Kid you should better leave before i stop being nice". "What was nice about what he just did", George asked himself.

But he wasn't discouraged, he continued asking around until they threw him out.

"Hey what did i do he yelled". Okay so what might have caused this embarrassment he thought getting frustrated.

Just then he heard someone giggling, he looked around but saw no one. Just then the giggle turned into a full laughter and it was as if he was the only one hearing it.

Wait he really was the only one hearing it. Cause looking around everyone was still busy with their own things. But just then he remembered, "Iris" he called out.

The laughter stopped, "why were you laughing" he asked.

"Well for the fact that you thought you were suddenly going to get a job because of a little power up from an artifact. You are going to need more than that if you want to get a job".

"And by the way, merely looking at you only disqualifies you. So since you can't do that job isn't there any other"?? She asked.

"Of course there is but the pay isn't much", George replied, "well do you prefer to starve then"? she asked again, George didn't have much options left, so he decided to go to the loading area, where merchants were loading their goods.

He knew at least they would accept him here but just that the pay wasn't much, and it depended on how many goods you loaded, and this resulted to competition amongst the loaders.

But with his new found energy he realized he could carry more than most people here, cause the people loading were mostly kids around his own age.

With this in mind, George set to work, he looked for the next leaving merchant cause they were almost done with this one.

"Sir please can i help you load" he asked the man. The man looked at him and said, "young man, do you think you can carry one of these boxes"? he asked.

"Yes I can" George replied. "Okay then go ahead, and remember one bronze coin for ten boxes" he shouted as George had hurriedly left to start working.

George began his work earnestly, lifting the boxes as if they were nothing, in some few minutes he had already loaded thirty boxes!!.

The man in charge at first didn't believe his eyes, then when he saw George resting a bit his surprise lessened, at least he gets tired he thought to himself.

But to his utmost surprise George got up again as the other kids were now rushing the boxes, he started grabbing them as fast as he could, this was no feat for an ordinary kid, just what kind of strength does he have, the man pondered.

In no time, all the boxes were loaded, and surprisingly George loaded forty boxes in total, this was beyond anybody's expectation, everyone there stared at him with awe.

It wasn't a bad day George thought, he didn't get what he came here for but at least he wouldn't be going home empty handed. He had made a total of four bronze coins, he'd have a full belly tonight.

He was about going when a boy rushed up to him and said excuse me bro, please the master wants to see you.

The master! who the hell is that?? George thought and why does he want to see me, hope I haven't done anything wrong, he asked himself.

"Aha i knew you wouldn't carry all those boxes without making a mistake", Iris said giggling. All this while she was silent as how this boy with such frail body could lift all those boxes up in such a small amount of time.

This wasn't what she predicted and she so much hated to be wrong, but now hearing this kid call George gave her some sort of satisfaction.

George still wondering what he had done walked solemnly with the boy as he was scared he had done something wrong and Iris only made matters worst she kept on telling him what he should have done, like where was she when I was working, "why didn't you tell me all these then" he asked frustrated.

"I thought you didn't need my help she replied nonchalantly". George decided to keep quiet as people were looking at him as if he were mad. He was mumbling to himself so why wouldn't they look at him like that.

They finally arrived the place, that's when George took a good look at the merchant, he wasn't like other merchants, he wasn't fat and pot bellied like them, he was in good shape, and merely looking at him gave George the impression he was a friendly person.

This eased George's tension a little bit, "I heard you carried forty boxes in a record breaking time" he said as George approached him.

When George heard this, he didn't know wether to cry or laugh. He wasn't expecting this at all.

The merchant seeing George's face of confusion thought he didn't know who he was and continued to introduce himself.

"Hi my name is Casper and i trade in cotton and furs, i'm the merchant you worked for earlier", he said extending his hands for a handshake.

This was a first for George, he had never shaken anybody in his life before talkless of a rich merchant, he couldn't believe his eyes, he shook the man's hands and said "i'm George sir".

"That was an amazing feat back there boy, you are plenty strong although you don't look it, no offense though" he said laughing. Where are your parents he asked.

"I don't have any", George replied "I'm an orphan", such a pity, so what happ..... he wanted to ask him but decided against it for now, he will ask later.

So he said "I was wondering wether you would be interested in earning some more coins, where i'm heading to, the boys over there charge a lot for the offloading and are rough with the goods too"

"So i was thinking, maybe we could go together, then when i'm coming back we will come back together too, cause i will be back in a week's time" he finished.

"What do you think" Iris asked him, "you could make use of a little more cash" she urged him.

George thought about it and agreed immediately to the merchant's surprise.

George didn't really have any reason to remain here and moreover he'd be back in a week so there was nothing for him to lose and he even got to earn a few extra coins.

He hurriedly went home and gathered his few properties into a bag and bade farewell to his parent's house which he had only met yesterday.

He got to the waiting merchant and off they went, George was leaving this place for the first time in his life, this place he had lived all his life, it was a dream come true.

"So Iris what do you think of me now", he asked the goddess, he waited a bit but there was no reply from her, he smiled.
