Vaatu Dies

Feeling himself reassembled, Genji opened his eyes and saw the blinding surroundings.

Bright golden light flowing all around him and leading somewhere.

"Argh…" Genji grumbled in pain as he felt a tingling sensation on his legs.

Lowering his eyes, Genji saw that his legs were gone and where they once were, only a dim light remained.

"ARRRGHHH!!"

Suddenly, Genji could hear a loud yell of pain and snapped his head over to the source.

Not too far away from him, Genji could see Vaatu floating in the golden light like him. Yet, unlike Genji who was simply floating, Vaatu was being actively attacked by the golden light.

"STOP! ARGHH!"

Yelling in pain, Vaatu's tendrils squirmed and tried to block against the light attacking him yet it was all in vain.

Seeing Vaatu be attacked, Genji began to feel nervous, his eyes darted around the golden light space. Worry and uneasiness began to fill his heart and his hands began to tremble.

"My child… where's my child!" Genji yelled out into the golden light.

He turned his head, nothing but golden light entered his eyes. His heart began to beat rapidly, his eyes shifting around before focusing on Vaatu.

"VAATU!" Genji roared, trying to move over to Vaatu.

Yet no matter how much Genji struggled to move, he remained in the same spot.

Genji's nose scrunched up as he began to feel worried about his newborn child yet not being able to find them. It worried Genji, especially when the golden light was attacking Vaatu who could possibly still be holding his child.

"MORTAL!"

Vaatu began to yell, calling out for Genji's attention.

Genji looked at Vaatu and focused his gaze on him.

"Where's my child Vaatu?!" Genji asked angrily.

"MORTAL!" Vaatu yelled out once more in anguish. "SAVE ME AND I CAN HAND YOUR KIN TO YOU!"

Genji frowned but just before he could answer, Genji began to feel his eyesight flickering. Like if someone was messing with the lightswitches and constantly turning the lights on and off.

"Hand me my child first and I will save you!" Genji yelled at Vaatu after his eyesight stabilized.

"I AM NOT FOOLISH! SAVE ME!" Vaatu roared, rejecting Genji's proposal.

Genji gnashed his teeth and yelled, "There's nowhere for me to go, Vaatu! You're probably the only one who knows how to get out of here!"

"HUMAN!"

Vaatu simply roared that single word and it seemed to be mulling the idea.

Genji scrunched his nose and continued in anger, "I want to live as much as you do! I know that once you die, I will be targeted by this golden light as well!"

'Targeted?'

Vaatu continued to squirm and wriggle in pain after hearing Genji and if Vaatu could smile right now, there would be a wide grin on his face.

The golden light was only targeting Vaatu, and even after he was gone, the light wouldn't attack Genji in the slightest. As the culprit who actively took the energy from the spirit portal, the golden light focused on Vaatu rather than Genji who only manipulated the energy that was already under Vaatu's control.

"KEEP YOUR PROMISE!" Vaatu yelled as he turned his huge body and revealed a small child in his tendrils.

With a voice filled with ridicule, Vaatu passed the child to Genji, "I'll take us ALL~ out of here!"

Genji ignored what Vaatu was saying as his eyes focused onto the child in Vaatu's tendrils. His eyes which were filled with worry slowly turned gentle at the sight of this child.

'My baby…' thought Genji as he looked at the child that looked like a young girl. Around three years old with long black hair, Genji could clearly feel the strong blood connection with this child before him.

Extending his arms toward the child, Genji welcomed the young child into his embrace.

"NOW… ARGH!!… lETS GEt on WitH IT!" Vaatu yelled in pain as he focused his gaze on Genji.

"Yeah…" Genji mumbled absentmindedly as he looked into his child's face. An indescribable emotion filled him, one full of joy.

Pressing on the child's cheek, Genji thought to himself, 'I vow to protect you forever, my poor child. To do that… I first need to…'

Lifting his head with a refreshed look on his face, Genji turned his attention to Vaatu.

"How about, no," Genji said as a smirk emerged on his face. "Go fuck yourself Vaatu."

"WHAT!!"

Vaatu glowed with an eery red light that was soon shot down by the golden light.

Bang!

"YOU! I WILL TAKE OVER YOUR BODY AND KILL THAT KIN OF YOURS!" Vaatu roared as he shot his tendrils over to Genji.

Yet before his tendrils could reach Genji, numerous golden lights shot out to Vaatu's tendrils as if protecting Genji.

"GGRAAAHHH!"

Vaatu roared loudly in the golden light space as he pushed through the golden light, slowly bringing himself closer to destruction.

Genji on the other hand stood back with his child in his arms and a smirk on his face.

"To dare threaten me with my beloved child, nothing but death awaits you now, Vaatu," Genji said coldly as he looked at Vaatu with a cold smirk on his face.

"GRAHH! SHUT UP MORTAL! WITHOUT ME, YOU'RE GOING TO BE STUCK HERE FOREVER!"

Vaatu's size and appearance continued to be destroyed and reduced under the onslaught of the golden light. All surprisingly precise and non-lethal as if the golden light was playing with Vaatu.

"ARRRGGHH!!!"

Seeing this, Genji smirked deviously.

Out of Vaatu's sight, one of Genji's hands were moving and expertly manipulating the light around him to attack Vaatu.

Ever since Genji appeared in this place, he felt that the energy was similar to the one that Vaatu had used earlier when he stole energy from the spirit portal.

After he accidentally dissipated his legs under the golden light, Genji realized he could control the golden light. Although unsure of how to return his legs, Genji rapidly figured out how to manipulate the golden light.

It was similar to manipulating the energy in the surrounding space back in the mortal world. Albeit slightly different.

Surprisingly, without the aid of the system, Genji found it much easier to comprehend things and learnt how to control the golden light much faster.

The only problem was that without the system, his memories regarding the various skills he knew were slowly fading away.

As Genji continued to control the golden light, Vaatu was soon reduced to the size of a small coin.

"Farewell Vaatu. Come back in 10,000 years when your not my problem," Genji said as he smirked and sent one last golden light to Vaatu.

"CURSE YOU MORTA-!"

BOOM!

With Vaatu's death, the space was shaken slightly and Genji felt eyesight flicker once more.

"Ugh… what's happening," Genji groaned in annoyance as he touched the side of his head with his free hand.

Genji looked at his daughter with a wry grin as he slowly lost his eyesight. It continued to flicker until complete darkness greeted him. The entire world around him, no matter how bright it was, was nothing but darkness to Genji's eyes.

"Haa… what's happening…" muttered Genji, a bit uncomfortable at losing his eyesight. His hold on tight to his daughter, afraid of losing her in this golden space.

The space was quiet, and despite manipulating the golden light, it did not attack Genji since he didn't try to make it his own.

Genji simply acted like a guiding hand as he gave the golden light a 'little push' and 'directed' it to where it needs to go.

Sighing, Genji wondered how to escape this place.

He had a bagged feeling how he might escape, but he couldn't attempt it as it might risk his daughter's life.

Closing his eyes, Genji began to mull over this complication.

Quietly, he thought about methods to escape and the golden light.

Golden light… nothing but energy.

Energy which he was able to manipulate.

Energy he was able to convert to elements.

The elements were based on spirituality.

Spirituality is influenced by the heart, wisdom, and knowledge.

Fire, water, air, earth, lightning, Yin, Yang, light…

Genji slowly began to find the path and eventually he touched upon the elements.

If energy is something intangible which can equally affect intangible and tangible things, can energy influence space?

Space… what is it?

A three-dimensional continuum… a method to keep track of an area?

Is it absolute?

Does it exist permanently and independently?

As Genji continued to mull over space and attempt to comprehend it, he used his free hand to manipulate the golden light and attempt various thoughts and insights to aid him.

Suddenly, a portion of golden light shook but Genji kept his eyes closed as he continued to delve further into contemplating space.

Shh….

The more he continued studying space, the more golden light was being affected by Genji's hand movements.

Before Genji knew it, the space around him was moving slowly whilst everything out of it moved rapidly.

Pop!

With a loud pop, the figures of Genji and the small girl in his arms disappeared from the golden light space.

***

After what felt like years inside the golden light, Genji could feel his surroundings changing. Fresh air assaulted his nose and a chilling cold on his body.

Furrowing his eyebrows, Genji wrapped his daughter in his shirt to keep her warm.

Shh…

Slowly, the light around Genji disappeared before he found himself standing outside of a spirit portal.

Looking at the large pillar of light that shot up into the sky, Genji could finally head back home. He felt abnormally fatigued, his mental strength low and all he wanted to do was go home and sleep.

However, he could only push on.

He had a new life to worry about and he needed to find a safe place for his daughter to rest in.

Fighting off the weariness and abnormal fatigue, Genji shuffled through the snow, ignoring the freezing cold on his body.

Not even Chi could help him now after his Chi pathways were destroyed during his fight against Vaatu. He couldn't even manipulate the Chi in the air due to the fatigue he had.

In fact, it was quite amazing how he hadn't fainted yet, but one thing was for sure.

The instant Genji closes his eyes to rest, he will be sleeping for a long time.

Pressing forward, Genji cradled his daughter in his arms, slowly inspecting her and making sure she's alright.

He checked not just her temperature, but also the condition of her body and Chi pathways. He made sure that Vaatu didn't harm his daughter in any way or harmed her future.

Yet no matter how much Genji checked, he couldn't find anything wrong with his daughter. Without the aid of Chi, all he can do is a superficial examination.

Gritting his teeth, Genji held his daughter close to his chest, warming her body with his own.

An hour passed… Two hours passed…

After what seemed like three hours, Genji finally noticed his daughter opening her eyes.

The worry and distress he had been secretly accumulating slowly washed itself away as he felt his daughter move and her little hand grab onto his shirt.

The girl looked at Genji curiously, her blank mind beginning to absorb information after finally being conscious after so long.

Despite being tired and abnormally fatigued, Genji mustered the most bright and gentle smile he could.

"Good morning honey," Genji said softly, afraid of startling his daughter. "You may not be able to understand me right now, but I'm your father. I've brought you into this dangerous world, and as your father, I will protect you from every person and thing that could hurt."

Steeling his heart, Genji was making such a heartfelt promise. His eyes felt teary and he yearned to simply create a paradise for his daughter to safely grow and happily live her life.

"Eahaha~!"

A sweet childish giggle left Genji's daughter's mouth and Genji felt his heart ache and his eyes moisten even more.

"Hehe… such a sweet little thing… I wish I could see you're little smiley face right now," Genji said as he wiped his teary eyes. "Let's get you someplace safe."
