10. Nightmare

"Nadine!!! Wake up!!!"

Nadine woke up to Adrian's loud voice. She doesn't seem to be fully aware yet. Tears were still streaming down from her cheeks. Her gaze on Adrian was full of hope and without thinking she immediately hugged Adrian tightly and cried loudly while constantly apologizing to him and her "baby".

"I'm sorry Adrian.... I'm sorry my son... Really, your mother is really sorry."

The words kept repeating until Adrian was confused. He wanted to free himself from Nadine's arms but when he saw Nadine's body shaking from crying so hard he finally let it go.

This strong woman who doesn't seem to know the word surrender and is able to do anything to get her wish looks so weak and broken in front of Adrian.

"Nadine?"

Nadine was still sobbing.

"Nadine? I really don't know what you're talking about."

The sound of her crying had subsided a little and Nadine was a little surprised. Her eyes widened in shock when she realized that she had hugged Adrian. Her shock seemed to have managed to wake her up from her nightmare.

"I don't know whose baby you're talking about?"

Slowly Nadine let go of his arm. And hastily wiped away her tears. Pushing Adrian's body slowly away from her.

Her tears were no longer flowing, she looked back at her laptop as if nothing had happened. But sadness was clearly visible on her face.

"Sorry you must be shocked. I just had a strange dream. Is there anything you need?"

He didn't look at Adrian at all. Her hands still seemed to shake when she was about to hold the laptop. Adrian who saw it looked suspicious.

"Are you sure you're okay? You cried so hard and called "your son". And then apologized to me."

Nadine looks panicked and still doesn't want to look at Adrian.

"Nadine?"

"I told you I'm fine! If you don't need anything you better get out of here! I have a lot of work to do!"

Nadine snapped at Adrian because she was panicked about what to answer.

Adrian did look annoyed but seeing Nadine's hands still shaking with fear he just took a deep breath and left the room.

"I just wanted to wake you up for lunch."

When he reached the study room door he glanced back at Nadine.

Nadine looks like looking at her laptop but Adrian sees her eyes are blank and once again tears are falling.

"You'd better hurry to lunch."

Adrian tried to talk to Nadine one more time. And this time he managed to make Nadine look at him.

"Thank you. You don't have to worry about me."

Her smile looked bitter when she answered Adrian's invitation.

Adrian then went out and closed the door of Nadine's study room and went to the dining room. He looked worried but refused to ask Nadine again.

Nadine who is now alone in the room feels lonely.

"That dream came again.... Haaaah.... I really feel bad for you my son..."

Nadine cupped her hands over her face. And felt beads of sweat fill her forehead.

"I think I've set it to the lowest temperature."

She looked at the AC remote on her desk and was slightly surprised by the temperature listed on it.

Then she walked away and when she shifted her chair the blanket on the chair fell to the floor.

The sadness on her face seemed to lessen a bit as a faint smile appeared on her pretty face.

"Adi...."

Not taking long, she rushed out to the dining room while putting the blanket that Adrian had put on the chair again.

In the dining room Nadine saw Adrian who had not touched the food in front of him. He even seemed to be deep in his thoughts.

"Thanks for the blanket... But I'd prefer the room temperature to be cooler."

Adrian was a little surprised to hear Nadine's voice. A faint smile graced her face as she sat across from Adrian.

Adrian stared at her for a long time, which made Nadine a little awkward.

"Adrian.... You make me nervous when you look at me like that. I can't enjoy my food."

Adrian was again surprised and immediately looked away at the food in front of him. Nadine chuckled at Adrian's suspicious behavior.

"You already have a son and throw them away?"

Nadine immediately spit out the food she just spooned when Adrian asked her. She immediately drank the water and controlled her irregular breathing.

"Eeehmmm... Looks like you heard wrong thing. Come on, eat your food and I'll get back to work."

Adrian did not believe Nadine's words at all.

"You really are cold-hearted to do that to a child."

Adrian spoke in a fierce tone as he took some of the food on his plate. Nadine who heard that immediately put down her spoon and glared at Adrian.

"He hasn't even had a chance to see this world yet."

Adrian immediately stopped his activities and was stunned to see Nadine's serious face.

"Nad... Wait... So you aborted it? Wait.... What!!"

Seeing Adrian's panicked and confused face, Nadine lowered her face.

"Your child's father knows that? God I can't believe it."

Nadine just nodded and glanced at Adrian who looked gaping.

"Nadine.... God.... You... Haaaah..... Was it because it was just a mistake that you killed him?"

The word "kill" that came out of Adrian's mouth made Nadine flinch and lowered her head again.

"He's not a mistake! And I love the father of the child!"

Adrian was silent for a moment when he heard Nadine yell at him.

"If you love him, you should marry him, not me."

With a shaking body, Nadine replied to Adrian's words.

"I chose to leave because I didn't want to burden him."

Adrian looks annoyed with Nadine's answer.

"So you'd rather give me trouble."

Hearing Adrian's answer Nadine's body seemed to shake a little. Adrian was a little worried because Nadine lowered her face again.

"Hmfft... Adrian... Ha ha ha ha..."

Adrian was surprised to hear laughter from Nadine.

"Adrian ha ha ha ha... It was just a joke.... You're so serious... I'm not doing that in this life...."

Adrian looks very annoyed to hear that and chooses to eat without responding to Nadine.

"But thanks for worrying about me. You don't have to worry."

Adrian glared at Nadine who tried to smile at him.

"The child's father should be the one who is worried, not me."

Nadine was silent and smiled bitterly.

"I hope so."

Adrian immediately raised his head and was surprised to hear Nadine.

"Joking Adrian..... I'm just joking...."

This time Adrian didn't want to say anything and glared at Nadine who was ready to leave.

"I'm done. I will continue my work. Enjoy your holiday."

Adrian looked at Nadine's plate which was barely even touched.

"What a strange rich lady."

That day Nadine almost didn't go out at all, she just went out to get some food and she brought it back to the room.

It's pretty contradictory to her past life. While in her past life the one that didn't leave that room is Adrian but now she is the one that stucking at that study room. Leaving Adrian alone doing whatever he wanna do.

And Now Adrian seemed to have a video call with someone again.

"Adrian I don't see Nadine at all..."

Marie had asked that question many times but had not received an answer from Adrian.

Hearing Marie's questions over and over, Adrian couldn't help but have to answer them.

"Nadine is..."

Not finished Adrian answered suddenly someone cut him off.

"Hi Marie..... How are you doing."

Surprised by Nadine's sudden voice and her presence beside him, Adrian almost dropped his phone.

"Hello Nadine.... Adrian seems very happy with the villa you have chosen."

"Aunt...."

Nadine smiled faintly and answered Marie.

"Thank goodness for that. We can bring you here when you're recovering."

Adrian stared back at Nadine's answer.

"Huh!!"

"Huh!!!"

And at the same time Adrian shouted in surprise along with Benjamin.

"Ha ha ha.... Of course. Oh yes I wanted to thank you. Benjamin told me about all the hospital transfers."

Nadine was a little surprised because she didn't expect Benjamin would tell Marie the truth.

"You don't have to worry... Just focus on your rehabilitation."

Marie smiled, Adrian and Benjamin just stared at the woman's closeness. They were confused how those two women could be like old friends.

"I still have work, you guys enjoy your time, good night."

Nadine then left Adrian and returned to the study room with a drink she probably just took when Adrian made a video call to her aunt.

"Adrian... Your wife is really a sugar mom..."

"Benjamin!"

Benjamin's words received a stern rebuke from Marie. Adrian just chuckled and glared at Benjamin.

The clock in Adrian's room showed three in the morning. Thirst made him have to get out of his bedroom.

He then headed to the dining room, as he passed the study room he saw that the light was still on from the slightly ajar door.

There was a sound of sobbing from inside. He tried not to care but then the voice grew louder.

"Wait!!!"

He wanted to go back to his room but the screams came back and got louder and louder.

"I'm sorry Adrian.... I'm sorry my son..."

Adrian finally came to Nadine's study room. She fell asleep on the big sofa in the middle of her study room and this time the blanket that he gave to her this afternoon covered her shoulders.

"Nadine? You're joking again aren't you?"

Still heard the sound of sobbing from Nadine.

"Adrian I'm sorry..."

Adrian approached her and he patted Nadine's shoulder lightly.

"Hey... I really don't know if you're kidding or not. You'd better move to your room."

Cold sweat was seen running down her forehead. Not getting a response Adrian sat beside Nadine's head and tried to shake her shoulder. But instead his hand was pulled by Nadine and she hugged his hand tightly.

"Forgive me...."

Giving up on not being able to wake her up and pulling his hand, Adrian finally gave in and sat down beside Nadine.

"Okay... Okay.... Whatever you want..."

A faint smile appeared on Nadine's face, still holding Adrian's hand tightly, she looked a little calm.

"Thank you Adi..."
