Breathing Blue

On a beautiful night as spring began, a woman was rushed to the hospital with her flustered husband beside her. She was going into labour and three hours later, two baby girls were born to the unlikely couple. They went home soon after, their little family feeling complete. The babies looked nothing like each other but the parents quickly realised how strong their bond was. The older would get fussy and the younger would wail if ever they were separated. They cooed and awed and found it adorable. Unbeknownst to the happy couple, the older was born with the power to protect and ultimately, destroy. Something they would find out the hard way.

Tyler groaned, rubbing sleepily at his eyes. His clock said 4:00am. He was tired. He was so tired but he knew he wouldn't....couldn't fall asleep again. He didn't want to anyway. Sleep was dangerous. He got up, swinging his legs off the bed. The tiles were cold under his feet as he walked to his closet. He'd go for a run, maybe go to the gym for a while before taking a shower and getting ready for school. Sal barked and whined as he left and Tyler reluctantly let him tag along.

He found his mind wondering to his....no to Snow. She wasn't his. He wondered if she was awake and if she was, why? Was she thinking of him? Was she sad? His heart clenched at the thought of her being sad and his steps faltered. He picked up his pace with a scowl. So what if she was sad, why would he care? He shoved his thoughts to the back of his mind and ran until his legs ached and his lungs burned.

He kept going, making a u-turn. He'd stop when he got back to the house. It took longer than he was used to and by the time he got back, it was fifteen minutes past five. He had ran a longer distance than usual. Sal collapsed in his dog bed, lifting his paws up in the air in what seemed to be a stretch before bringing them back down. Tyler smiled and leaned towards the dog to pet him.

"How about breakfast, yeah?" He asked, rubbing the back of his ears. Sal barked excitedly, licking his face in approval. He laughed, using his shirt to wipe his face and heading to the kitchen. His dog followed behind him, panting and barking. He poured dog food into one bowl and warm water into another one, placing them side by side. He made an omelette for himself and they ate in silence, his mind going a million miles per second.

After washing his dirty dishes, he went to his home gym. He'd looked high and low to find a house that had its own gym, pool and wasn't too far away or too close to the school. He didn't like being around other people when he worked out. It could get...messy. One and a half hours later, he was dressed and ready to go. He made sure to refill the dog bowls before he left, leaving a sleeping Sal behind. Marco was sure to drop by some time around lunch to spend time with him before taking him to his house.

He thought about taking his car but then decided against it. Snow might not be his, but he liked the feel of her pressed against him and taking his bike was the only way to ensure that. They still had that hippie project to complete so she was coming over today. He refused to acknowledge that he was excited. He got to school ten minutes early. He frowned walking to his AP Bio class anyway.

He sat in the middle of the classroom, at the seat by the window and pulled out his sketchpad from his bag. He opened a clean page, took out a pencil and started to draw. Drawing was his escape from reality, he barely ever noticed what was going on around him when he drew. The smell of strawberries and coconut assaulted his senses and he felt more than saw someone take a sit next to him.

"Hey Tyler," Snow greeted after a very lengthy debate with herself whether to sit with Lucy, a girl she knew and considered a friend or Tyler, her partner for the hippie project. She chose Tyler. His pencil paused on his sketchpad and he turned to her. Snow smiled shyly and looked away, his gaze too intense for her to hold.

"Hi Snow," he replied just as the bell rung and the teacher walked in. Snow smiled brightly, her barely contained excitement threatening to burst. He hadn't glared at her. He'd actually replied to her greeting like a normal person. Ten minutes into the lesson, she noticed he wasn't taking notes. She wasn't even sure he was half listening to the teacher. He looked like he was....drawing? She leaned in closer to get a look.

She got a glimpse of what looked like a woman's face before the book was slammed shut. She swallowed nervously and looked up at an angry Tyler. His grey eyes were hardened in a cold glare that frayed her nerves. She laughed nervously.

"W-who i-is sh-she?" She stuttered out, her curiosity getting the better of her. His stare hardened and he leaned into her personal bubble.

"None of your fucking business," he sneered harshly. She bristled at his tone.

"Don't talk to me like that," she shot back too surprised by the sudden anger to contain it. Tyler raised an impressed eyebrow and moved back, smirking slightly.

Snow took a deep calming breath and focused on what their teacher was saying. She didn't like to get mad but he had no right to talk to her like that. She huffed and crossed her arms over her chest. Tyler's smirk widened at how cute she looked trying to be mad at him. She looked adorable with her cheeks puffed out and her little nose twitching. Like an adorable little rabbit. He chuckled quietly at the thought.

Unable to resist the temptation, he poked her cheek and she turned to him, confusion swirling in her beautiful blue eyes. His lips moved, forming a word he didn't say. Ever.

"Sorry," he found himself saying. It took most of his self control not to slap his hand over his mouth and look at her in shock. Her eyes widened as disbelief flooded her eyes. Tyler frowned, turning away from her.

Snow opened and closed her mouth like a fish out of water, gaping at him in shock. She hadn't known this man very long but he didn't seem like the type to apologise. Even when he turned away from her, she was still facing him, wondering what to say.

"As wonderful as it is that you bonded, I would appreciate it if you didn't spend the entirety of my lesson staring at the side of Mr Blackwell's face Miss Murphy, " Mrs Biggs admonished, looking at her pointedly but with excitement. Snow coloured a bright pink and shrunk into her seat.
