Becoming the Main Character

Lila did everything in her power to keep the main leads together for her own happy ending. This was because she knew that the world they lived in was just a novel. Even worse, she was miserable in the original story so she was determined to change her fate. However, everything went downhill after she helped a wounded man in her apartment building. It was only the next day when Lila realized what regret really was as the man introduced himself. "What's your name again?" Lila asked hoping she heard and saw wrong.  "Ian, Ian Kline," he answered, not questioning why she asked.  "It was nice to meet you," She quickly muttered before rushing past him to the elevators. She was glad she didn't stutter, but only she knew how much her hands were trembling at the moment.  What made the situation even worse? The fact that she could feel his stare on her back as she rushed away. Lila only calmed down after she got in the elevator and quickly pressed the close button. Please, please, please! ... Who could tell her why the man she had saved turned out to be the main villain?

Part 1 - A Typical Novel

Silence filled the sidewalk as the man and woman stared at each other. Eventually, the man grabbed the girl's wrist and pulled her into his arms. After struggling for a while, the woman gave up as the man tightly embraced her. It was a very melodramatic scene for anyone who witnessed it.

At least, that's what Lila thought as she stared at the couple through the window of the coffee shop that she was in. She couldn't help but get goosebumps from the scene. Did they really have to be so dramatic? Although she couldn't blame them as they were the male lead and female lead in a novel. Yes, a novel.

Lila had transmigrated into this novel after she had died in her original world. She was born into this world and grew up in it as well. However, she seemed to have her past memories since she knew that the world she was in was just a book that she had read in her original world. The novel was the same-old rich guy and poor woman falling in love before getting separated by the male lead's mother who thinks the poor woman is not worthy of her son. Then, with some twist of fate there's a whole bunch of misunderstandings, jealousy, plot twists, and finally they end up together happily ever after.

Lila wouldn't have cared about the whole novel thing and would have just enjoyed her new chance at life if she had not been born as a key character in the story. Her identity in the novel was the second female lead who dated the male lead before he fell in love with the female lead. The male lead had made it clear to her that the dating was only so he could stop his mother from nagging at him to get married, but she had agreed because she truly loved him. When the male lead fell in love and broke up with her, she became depressed and gloomy. She still loved him and stayed as a spare tire until the end of the novel.

Lila shivered as she thought about the original story. She didn't want to be pulled into all the drama so she always stayed far away from the main leads since she was born. Yet, they always seemed to be near her no matter where she went. She even wondered if only she could see them at times because no couple would be having a full french kiss session in the middle of the street on a rainy day without anyone honking their horns or yelling at them to move. Yes, that did happen and Lila had immediately made a U-turn back to her house.

However, the good thing was that it seemed like the main leads were doing fine without her being used as a stepping-stone for their love. Lila had written down the contents of the book that she remembered as soon as she grew old enough to write. She was absolutely sure that the main leads were about to get married after seeing the scene in front of her. It was the scene of the female lead running away, again, because she believed he would be better off without her and the male lead chasing after her before proposing with touching words.

Lila turned away from the scene of the man kneeling and quickly finished her coffee before leaving the shop. Her driver smiled at her before opening the car door.

"Ready to go home?" He asked as he got into the driver's seat of the car. Lila smiled.

"Yeah, I think it's time to head home Harold" She replied. "Let's hurry before we get late for dinner."

Harold nodded before driving off into the streets. Lila watched as they passed by the main leads and felt a sense of relief wash over her. A sense of relief that she wouldn't end up miserable like the original Lila in the story.
